Chapter 47: POTC: Part 28

The moment Davy Jones died, Evie leapt away from Eden, retreating. As for Eden, his gaze was fixed on Morgan, who looked back with a feral gaze.

The Shadow Lord had been battered by Davy Jones, with one of his limbs hanging limp, and he was also dragging one of his legs behind.

Eden was about to cast a Strengthened Fireball on him, when his danger sense kicked in, and he leapt backward, jumping off the ship as a large tentacle slammed into it.

All this while, Mictlantecuhtli had been going at it with the Kraken, and the victor was becoming apparent as the tentacle that had slammed into the ship had been severed from the Kraken, and used as a whip to destroy the Flying Dutchman.

Swimming amidst the broken parts of the legendary ship and corpses, Eden saw the Kraken struggling against the God of the dead, but it was hopelessly outmatched.

To its credit, the monster was dealing some damage to the God, but it was all being regenerated rapidly. Some deeper injuries persisted longer, and given enough time, the Kraken might manage to kill the God, but it was fighting back, and unlike it, the Kraken did not have the ability to regenerate.

Swimming to the nearest ship, which happened to be the one the sniper was on, he noticed that Mictlantecuhtli's army was getting closer, and was leaving behind a sea of corpses. They too possessed a form of immortality, and through their sheer numbers, they were overwhelming the pirates and soldiers.

By the look of things, it would not take long before they overran the entire battlefield.

Yet, even in this situation, Morgan climbed on the ship behind Eden, roaring, "Ozymandias!"

Biting the bit of his tongue in anger, Eden couldn't help but roar back, "Will you shut the fuck up!"

Morgan attacked, but he was much slower than before, allowing Eden to parry the incoming strike as he retreated a few steps, his rage fueling him.

A quick glance at his status showed that he had 262 MP left.

"Fuck!"

Even with the Minor Mana Potion, Eden would only be able to recover to 287 MP, which was not enough to use the second Third Circle spell he had learned.

[Undead Servant (3rd Circle): Fill up a corpse with necrotic energy and bring it to unlife. May only bring back corpses with attributes under 25. Cost: 330 MP.]

Eden's plan had been to turn the sniper in the crow's nest into his undead, to provide him support, which would have provided him with valuable support.

So, he went with the second best option, summoning Rafael back. He had been crushed by the tentacle, since he was in the middle of the ship.

A naked Rafael appeared next to Eden, devoid of any equipment or weapons, and distinctly weaker than before. Still, he threw himself at Morgan blocking him off.

Morgan's claws sliced his flesh apart, but Rafael did not feel any pain, and threw in punches of his own. Eden joined in as well, throwing a Common mace he had picked up before at Rafael, while using Rosa himself.

Eden could not see Resistances and Weaknesses with his Analysis skill, but from what he had seen, Rafael had developed a resistance to necrotic and slashing damage, while he may have a weakness to bludgeoning damage, although that might have just been Davy Jones who was a monster of fighter.

In any case, even when taking these into account, Rosa's was bound to deal more damage than a Common mace, so he kept it for himself.

Morgan sported several bruises across his body, from Davy Jones' earlier blows, and Eden chose those places to strike.

His body was tougher than any hide, and the Rosa Estrellada barely sliced in, dealing what Eden assumed was negligent damage. However, with each of those, a spurt of blood would shoot out of the wound, and continue bleeding.

Lowering himself to dodge another strike from Morgan, Eden's eyes lit up as he swiped his blade a second time, striking another bruise, and dealt one more cut. The flesh there was weakened, easier to cut.

Morgan, despite being injured, was still faster than Eden, but Rafael grabbed his head and sent a flying knee strike into his face, breaking his nose.

For everything Rafael had lost with his resurrection, he did get his lost hand back. Morgan shredded Rafael's bare torso, but Rafael ignored it, keeping him secured, and allowing Eden to inflict several more attacks, all of which pissed blood.

As an undead, Rafael did not bleed, and while Morgan was strong, he only had a single arm still responding. He tried to reach for Rafael's organs, but the undead had a stubbornness to him unique to his kind.

Most of Morgan's upper body was covered in his black armor, and while it looked like it had been crafted from a shadow, and thus quite thin, it had blocked Davy Jones' blows, and Eden did not even try to slice through it.

This worked against him in this instance however as Eden was forced to attack the few gaps in his armor, and what had first been shallow cuts, had now been turned into deep ones that bled heavily.

Unfortunately, Rafael, even in his undead form, had his limits, and with a strong jerk, Morgan finally managed to escape from his grasp. Now free, Morgan slammed his elbow into Rafael's face, caving it in, before he pounced at Eden.

Eden rolled to dodge, doing his best to regulate his breathing as he remained on the defensive. Morgan was bleeding out, and his movements were getting slower and weaker the more time passed.

For all his supernatural strength, Morgan remained a mortal man, and just like any other, he required blood to function.

Lost in his rage, Henry Morgan once more threw himself forward, and his crazed eyes widened in victory when he saw Eden take a step forward, as if to meet his attack.

But as Morgan was about to reach him, Rafael's hand suddenly reached out from the ground, and grabbed at Morgan's black cape. Rafael was on the verge on death, laying face down on the ground, but using the last embers of undeath left in him, Eden commanded him to stop Morgan.

Morgan, who was in the middle of his lunge, suddenly had his cape yanked. His body was forced to a stop, and his head whipped back from the sudden jerk, showing his neck.

But at the same moment, Eden felt a sudden sense of crisis, and spotted a female form clothed in black emerge from beside him, her own sword aimed at him.

Feeling time slow down, Eden steeled himself, and proceeded with the strike anyway.

"First Form: Low Clouds, Distance Haze."

As Rosa Estrellada sliced through Morgan's vulnerable neck, cutting into his carotid artery, Eden felt a cold blade thrust into his chest. Through a slight twitch of his body, it missed his heart however.

As Morgan's eyes regained clarity, and shocked overwhelmed him as he placed his hand to his neck, trying to stop the bleeding, Eden flexed his muscles, and swung his sword a second time, ignoring the one going through his chest at the moment.

Eden felt his muscles get shredded by Evie's blade, but he managed to bring down his sword onto her shoulder, cutting halfway through her chest.

She looked at him in shock as he grinned, kicking her in the abdomen to push her away. Since she was holding her blade tightly, that too got out, further damaging Eden's insides on its way out.

Throwing up a mouthful of blood, Eden leaned on his longsword, unable to stand on his own. Evie was not in a much better condition, and was on the verge of death as well.

Even in this situation though, Eden could not help but look up as he heard an earth-shattering roar, and saw Mictlantecuhtli hold up the Kraken in the air, and tear it apart.

[The mission time is coming to an end. You will be returned to the Nexus in ten seconds.]

Blood drowned his lungs, but Eden still had a manic grin on as he put the sword back in his Inventory, letting himself fall onto Morgan's corpse.

Mictlantecuhtli turned its attention to him, its expression having turned stony now as it took a step forward. Only now did Eden realize it was standing on water.

Was that the second coming of Jesus?

Scoffing at his own idle thoughts, Eden grabbed Morgan's arm, and placed his corpse inside his Inventory.

Living people could not be placed in there, but there were no such restrictions for corpses. So long as they had the place.

Looking up, the God of the Dead blotted out the sky, one of its hands brought up to squash him down.

"I cast Strengthened Fireball."

The last thing Eden saw was the useless but immensely spiteful fireball exploding in Mictlantecuhtli's face before he was teleported away.
