Chapter 07: Chaos in the Night
[Black Quadrant!]
A spell that increases the level of ominous dark magic in an area. It causes a rapid spread of dark magic particles around the area under its effect, greatly enticing the spawning of monsters.
That was the spell Kalius had cast when he formed the black magic circle in the sky, and now the village of Yverl was in chaos, overrun by monsters. A moment ago, the villagers were sound asleep in their homes but now they were running through the streets escaping the monsters that were almost everywhere.
A certain man, together with his wife and kids were making a run for it, as they were about to make a turn, they met head-on with a horde of monsters; Arachne: child-sized spider-like monsters, goblins, black hounds, wolves, phantoms and many more.
They were about to change course quickly, but when they glanced behind, more monsters were on their tail. The creatures charged at the helpless family, closing in rapidly.
[Thunder Fall!]
[Fire Burst!]
Bolts of lightning fell, striking all the monsters in front of them, and at the same, flames exploded in a circular vortex, consuming all the monsters behind them.
The family froze in awe as Blaze stood behind them and Erica in front of them.
“Thank goodness, we’re saved.” The woman spoke in relief.
“The path to the village center is clear, head there right now,” Blaze said before the man quickly thanked the two and took his family away.
“This is getting out of hand.” Blaze grit, his teeth looking at the magic circle in the sky.
“If only I had restrained the Major in time.” Erica pondered hardening her grip on the spear.
“It isn’t exactly your fault. Even I didn’t think he would have been able to escape your paralysis spell so easily.” Blaze said, “Right now we have to find him and put a stop to this…well speak of the devil.”
From afar, Kalius’ rugged figure came into view, his eyes glowing red viciously gnawing his teeth as he treaded towards their direction sword in hand.
“I got him, you go help the chief and Miss Milka round up the villagers. I can handle him"
Blaze shot Erica a skeptical look, “Last you said you could handle…”
“Yes, I know what happened and I won’t repeat my mistake twice!” Erica yelled at him, not wanting to remember the previous attempt in dealing with Kalius that ended with the man escaping after her attack hit her. Erica had forgotten that one of the perks of Major General Kalius' special red palladium armor was resistance to magic-inflicted status effects such as her paralysis.
“He’s all yours then Zappy.”
“What did you call me!” Erica flared up turning to Blaze furiously only to find the boy already on the run to where the others were.
“That insolate…” Erica grumbled before turning back her concentration towards Kalius.
As she did Kalius began to charge at her at an inhumanly fast speed. She readied herself but was shocked when the man bolted right past her and instead headed for Blaze.
“What?” Erica turned to find Kalius already on Blaze’s tail, “Fellis!”
As he ran, Blaze glanced back and found Kalius right behind him with his sword held up about to strike. Quickly, he skidded forward before leaping to the side just in time as Kalius’ sword crashed onto the ground.
“Guess this bastard is after me, you go help the rest!” Blaze yelled out to Erica.
As much as she wanted to protest, she knew Blaze’s approach made more valid sense so she let out a sigh of defeat.
“Fine, I’m leaving him to you!” she declared, enveloping herself in lightning before darting away at breakneck speed.
Since Kalius had driven his sword into the ground with such force, it took him a while to wrench it free. When he finally managed to pull it out, he turned to face Blaze, only to see the boy airborne in front of him, just before being hit by a flying knee strike to the face.
Blaze didn’t stop there, the moment he landed back on the ground he engulfed his legs in flames before rising with a flying back kick to the Kalius’ chest, sending him tumbling back and groaning in pain.
He shook his head before raring senselessly at Blaze when the boy was just about to jump at him with another flaming kick. Kalius' hand came so fast and caught his leg in midair.
“Well, crap…”
