Chapter 259: Clearing the Path
"Muria, aren't you leaving?" Caslana frowned at Muria, feeling that this Dragon King's descendant was too concerned about these humans.
In her eyes, aside from humans like those willing to enter the Bavarian Kingdom to rescue their compatriots, others were petty and disgusting, especially the greedy and self-righteous ones.
"I'll leave once the Council of Necromancers departs," Muria replied with a smile. "I know these past few days that eager general has been bothering you. You can go back first. There's no need to stay here with me."
"No, I can't leave you here alone," Caslana firmly shook her head. "I need to keep an eye on you."
"Why keep an eye on me?" Muria asked, slightly exasperated. "I'm not a child. Although I look like a human teenager, I'm much older than them."
"Of course, I know you're not a child," Caslana moved closer to Muria, her enchanting musky scent wafting into his nostrils, causing his body to heat up slightly.
"But I feel that if I don't watch you, you might join those human Paladins and enter the Bavarian Kingdom at any time."
"How could that be?" Muria smiled wryly, shaking his head. "I'm not as noble as those Paladins. Caslana, I'm not afraid to admit that I'm afraid of dying. I'm very, very scared of death.
I want to live well, to travel across this vast world, to see all the sights I've never seen. I also want to go to the endless void, to see what other worlds are like, what creatures live there, and how they differ from Elrasia."
"There's nothing funny about that. Even gods fear their downfall." Caslana smiled happily at Muria's honesty. Fear of death is an instinct of all beings; she, too, fears death, and there's nothing to mock.
"However, Muria, your ambitions are truly grand. To traverse the whole of Elrasia and even venture into the endless void. I haven't even traveled across the whole continent of Eonnia."
"Traversing the entire world of Elrasia is just my first small goal," Muria tilted his head, his face beaming with a bright smile, half-jokingly said, "Becoming the Dragon King and roaming the void is my second small goal."
"Small goals? You really are..." Hearing Muria's 'small goals', Caslana's face showed a hint of shock. She was indeed startled by Muria's ambitions, but thinking about it, such aspirations were fitting for someone of his status as the Dragon King's descendant.
"To achieve my goals, I can't afford to die young." Muria chuckled, "So, unless I have more than twenty ancient dragons and a Dragon King to back me up, I absolutely won't enter the Bavarian Kingdom. Don't worry."
"Twenty ancient dragons?" Caslana shook her head, smiling wryly. Knowing Muria was joking, she still explained, "It's rare to see twenty ancient dragons gathered together under normal circumstances. My grandfather says that all the dragons above the ancient dragon level on the Eonnia continent combined are fewer than fifty, and most are in slumber, only awakening in life-or-death situations."
"So few?" Muria frowned.
"For us metal dragons, it's rare for even one in ten dragons to reach the ancient dragon stage. This world is too dangerous," Caslana sighed. "And once they reach the ancient dragon stage, many leave this world for reasons I don't yet understand."
...Muria and Caslana chatted about things he didn't know, killing time. When a stirring martial tune played, Muria smiled, "Another team of Paladins is assembling. I'll send them off."
The black-haired, golden-eyed youth stood up confidently, his hands glowing as he opened a portal. Stepping through, Muria appeared beside the gate of Patrick Fortress.
"You really don't need to do this." Caslana followed, looking at the approaching team of Paladins. "You've already rescued thirty thousand humans from the Bavarian Kingdom, while these Paladins have only saved three children so far."
"It's different," Muria said seriously to Caslana.
"Sigh, Muria, you're too kind," Caslana sighed.
"I'm just doing what I can," Muria pointed to a group of minstrels enthusiastically playing music to send off the Paladins. "Just like them."
The Paladin team, marching to the lively music, soon arrived at the city gate. Seeing Muria blocking the entrance, they bowed slightly to him.
Muria nodded in response, then turned and walked outside the fortress, with the Paladins slowly following him out. They had been informed beforehand of what they would encounter at the fortress gate.
"Crackling!" Muria took out his Starfall Bow, skillfully drawing the bowstring. His internal power surged out, forming golden arcs of electricity in the air.
A golden arrow, wrapped in thunder and flame, formed on the bow, its rugged and beautiful body adorned with ancient divine inscriptions, etching patterns onto the energy arrow. A terrifying energy wave spread from the city gate.
"Here goes the human magic cannon again."
"I never tire of this scene."
Murmurs from unknown sources reached Muria's ears, making him smirk.
"Boom!" Muria released the bowstring, and the power-packed golden arrow shot out.
The air exploded violently, creating sonic booms that radiated outward. The golden arrow, ordinary-sized when released, swelled as it flew, becoming as thick as a person and transforming into a sturdy beam of light, crushing everything in its path as it plunged into the undead fog.
"Charge following my arrow," Muria shouted to the Paladins behind him as he released the bowstring.
"Rumble!" Without hesitation, the Paladins followed Muria's command, advancing along the majestic path created by his arrow.
This was why Muria stayed at Patrick Fortress, to clear the way and send off every team of Paladins entering the Bavarian Kingdom, doing what he could within his power.
