Chapter 258: Legacy

"People are coming out!" An officer on the fortress wall shouted as he saw the number of undead drastically decrease in the foggy barrier, "Do not attack, they are humans, not undead."

In the midst of the grey mist, a massive golden flame could be seen moving forward. Vengeful spirits and wraiths in the undead fog rushed towards the flame like moths to a fire, only to scream and dissipate into wisps of blue smoke.

"Phew!" Caslana, also standing on the wall, gazed at the familiar golden flame, letting out a sigh of relief. If Muria didn't come out soon, she planned to inform her grandfather and then rush in to find him.

"Finally, he's out! Open the defense barrier and let my companion in," Caslana commanded without turning her head to the human commander beside her. This was the typical attitude of a Golden Dragon towards humans they found unworthy.

"Open the barrier and let that flame in," the soul-grade general stealthily glanced at Caslana's near-perfect profile, swallowing quietly before turning to loudly order his subordinates.

"Boom!" Muria, maneuvering the light breeze, carried seven dying Paladins and three infants under a spell, speeding towards Patrick Fortress like lightning.

Muria surrounded himself and these ten humans with thunder and dragon flames, destroying any wraiths attracted by his life force...

As Muria broke through the undead fog, he dispelled the thunder and fire around him and put away his prison-breaking halberd upon seeing the holy light barrier of the fortress gradually disappearing. Had the fortress not opened a passage, he was ready to break through with his exclusive weapon.

He believed the fortress's current defenses could temporarily withstand a legend's assault, but he was confident that his weapon, forged from a mixture of legendary metals, could smash a hole in the barrier large enough for him to pass through. After all, he didn't forge this weapon for fun.

Muria saw Caslana and the broad-browed, burly general on the wall, but he had no intention of stopping. Controlling the fierce wind, he hurried the Paladins and children directly towards the temple district inside Patrick Fortress.

"Muria!" With the lightning and fire dissipated, the figures of the ten humans beside Muria were clearly visible. Caslana shouted his name and transformed into a long rainbow, chasing after him.

"General, those Paladins brought out by the golden dragon seem to be the ones who left from our place some time ago."

"I'm not blind, no need to tell me," the burly general glanced at his deputy, "The key is those three children, heh, how many people did the Paladins sacrifice to save them?"

...Muria, with the Paladins and children, rushed straight to the central square of the temple district, under the watchful eyes of dozens of gathered Paladins, and descended to the ground.

"Where's the Cardinal? Come out and save these people," Muria shouted before landing.

Before his words fell, eight red-robed Cardinals slowly appeared. After glancing at Muria, they approached the Paladins he held aloft in the air.

"What is this? Such a rich life force, what healing potion was used?" One of the Cardinals exclaimed before even touching the Paladins.

"You don't need to worry about their physical injuries; I've fed each of them a few drops of the essence of the Tree of Life," Muria said as the Cardinals began examining the Paladins' bodies. "You just need to check if their souls are alright."

"The essence of the Tree of Life!" The Cardinals exchanged glances, looking at Muria with surprise before starting to cast divine spells one-on-one on the Paladins to check their souls.

"Uh!" The eighth Cardinal rubbed his nose awkwardly, then looked at Muria with a grateful smile and slightly bowed, "Thank you for your generosity!"

"It's what I should do," Muria nodded calmly, not sparing his essence of the Tree of Life for these dying Paladins.

"These children?" The Cardinals' gaze shifted slightly to the three sleeping children floating beside Muria, their faces showing a hint of uncertainty.

"They were rescued by that group of Paladins," Muria pointed to the seven Paladins receiving treatment.

"What about the others in their group?" The Cardinal's hands trembled, and the other Cardinals, casting divine spells, also shifted their attention to Muria.

"Here they are!" Muria said solemnly, taking out one after another corpse in broken armor from his space ring. Initially, there were complete corpses, then fragmented bodies, and finally, just bone fragments.

"Is that all?" The Cardinal looked at Muria, his voice trembling, his face unable to suppress grief. The corpses Muria brought out were less than a hundred.

Meanwhile, the Paladins in the central square also quietly came over, gazing at the remains on the ground, some of which couldn't even be pieced together into human form.

"That's all!" Muria shook his head, "Only these seven of their group of Paladins survived."

"This..." The Cardinal's face twitched, hesitantly walking to Muria, picking up a child with a stiff smile, "Children saved by sacrificing so much."

The watching Paladins also stepped forward, two representatives shrouded in divine light indistinguishable from their faces, taking the other two infants floating beside Muria, examining them, then handing them to another Paladin.

"Look, the children our Paladins saved!"

"Ha, such a cute little guy, I should also go to the Bavarian Kingdom to save a few like this."

...The two children, embraced by the Paladins in turn, opened their sleepy eyes in a daze. They became anxious not seeing their parents.

But soon, the divine light from the Paladins calmed their emotions, and shortly after, the two children started giggling in the arms of the rotating Paladins.

"These two children will surely become Paladins," Caslana, who quietly came to Muria's side, said, watching the harmonious scene in the central square.

"Then will this child become a great Cardinal?" Muria pointed to the child in the Cardinal's arms and asked with a smile.

"Hearing your words, I will strive to train him into a great Cardinal," the Cardinal answered seriously to Muria's half-joking comment.
