Chapter 125: A Failed Evolution of the Martial Soul Fusion? What Is This, Digimon?!
"Hmm, so you can't absorb it?"
Even though Han Li saw that Dugu Yan's face didn't show any signs of pain, he still decided to stop.
"No, I can absorb it."
Dugu Yan shook her head and also stopped trying to consume the energy. Without realizing it, she lightly touched her lower abdomen.
"How do I put it… When I absorb it using my martial soul, I feel this sense of fullness like it's delicious, but hard to digest."
"I have a feeling that even if I do digest it, it won't help me increase my martial soul's strength in the short term. If my instincts are right, I'd need years before I see any noticeable improvement."
She carefully described what she felt.
"So you're basically just treating my energy like high quality food? And short term breakthroughs are impossible?" Han Li summarized, deep in thought.
"Yeah, that's exactly it." Dugu Yan nodded, agreeing with his explanation.
"Alright, so it's useful, just not immediately. We'll put that aside for now. Let's move on to the next experiment."
Han Li turned back to her, asking for her opinion.
"Yeah, let's keep going."
Even though the first attempt didn't yield immediate results, it was still progress. That only made her more excited about the next one.
"You don't mind if I touch your martial soul and your body, right?"
Han Li glanced at her thin, slightly revealing outfit, raising an eyebrow.
"Did you only just realize that coming to see me at night might not be appropriate?" Dugu Yan's eyes flickered with playful mischief as she leaned in closer.
"I'm still young, okay? I reject all inappropriate temptations."
Despite his words, he still wrapped an arm around her waist and began channeling his converted elemental soul power to interact with hers.
Seeing him get serious, Dugu Yan stopped teasing and focused completely on their test.
"As for my body, it's similar to just absorbing the elemental energy from the air. At most, it feels like I'm in a simulated training environment."
After a while, Han Li raised his head and analyzed the results.
"Hmm, let's try direct contact with my martial soul."
Dugu Yan shrunk her martial soul to fit in her palm and extended her hand toward him.
"Alright, be ready to pull your martial soul back at any moment."
Han Li's expression became significantly more serious.
"Relax, I know what I'm doing."
Compared to Han Li, she was completely at ease she trusted him completely.
"Alright, lie on the bed. Directly touching my martial soul might cause some unexpected effects on your body."
Han Li suddenly recalled what had happened when he had suppressed Shui Bing'er's martial soul loss of control her reaction had been far from normal.
"I knew you had ulterior motives."
Dugu Yan rolled her eyes, then threw him a sultry glance.
"Fine, little brother, I'm all ready. Just don't be too rough, okay?"
Despite her words, she immediately walked over to the bed and lay down.
Han Li wasn't affected at all after all this time, he knew that Dugu Yan was just a shameless tease. If you took her words seriously, you were the one getting played.
With three quick steps, he reached the bed, focused his mind, and reached for her miniature martial soul.
"Mm~"
The moment his hand made contact, Dugu Yan's face flushed red, and a soft, intoxicating moan escaped her lips.
The moment the sound left her mouth, she realized her mistake, quickly bit her lip, and shut her eyes tight.
Han Li's hand paused slightly, but after seeing her completely surrender herself to the process, he focused back on the experiment.
Using his absolute control over the fire element, Han Li easily bypassed the flame barrier surrounding the Flamewing Serpent Spirit, finally making contact with its true form.
It was cool and smooth to the touch, completely different from the burning, explosive aura it radiated outwardly.
However, what he didn't notice was that as soon as he touched the martial soul, Dugu Yan instinctively twisted her body slightly on the bed.
Carefully, Han Li used his soul power and mental energy to probe its core essence. After confirming that it didn't resist, he started channeling his martial soul's aura into it.
The moment their energies made contact, Han Li suddenly felt a wave of dizziness.
The next thing he knew, it was as if he had turned into pure energy, merging into something else. From deep within his soul, a wave of indescribable pleasure surged through him, making him momentarily lose himself.
He had no idea how much time had passed it could've been a second or an eternity before his consciousness snapped back.
"Yan jie? You okay?"
His voice echoed strangely, as if it was coming from the same source as Dugu Yan's.
"I'm fine… but what just happened?"
Dugu Yan's voice sounded hazy, as if she had just woken up.
For some reason, Han Li felt odd as if their voices were both coming from the same place.
"Stay calm. Try to look around can you still sense the outside world?"
"Let me try…"
She focused, and suddenly, they both saw something the unfamiliar ceiling of her bedroom.
"I'm still lying in bed… but where are you?"
Han Li, noticing the shifting perspective, quickly realized what had happened.
Somehow, they had succeeded they had merged into a martial soul fusion technique.
However, unlike Shui Bing'er's fusion, this time, it seemed like Dugu Yan was the dominant entity, with Han Li fully integrated into her body.
"Okay… I think we actually pulled it off. Now, stand up and look in the mirror."
Han Li quickly instructed.
"Alright."
As she moved, Han Li noticed something wrong her hands weren't hers anymore. They were larger, and her entire body structure had changed.
She hurriedly got up and walked to the mirror.
The reflection staring back at them wasn't Dugu Yan.
She had grown taller, her face had merged traits from both of them, making her look gender neutral handsome and elegant at the same time. A bright red flame sigil burned on her forehead.
Her once dark red hair had turned into a vibrant crimson, now short and spiky, resembling a blazing fire rather than ordinary strands.
Her arms bore faint flame patterns, glowing rhythmically like a heartbeat. Even her wings had transformed now crimson red, looking more refined and dangerous.
Standing there, the fusion no longer resembled a snake spirit instead, she looked like a true flame born entity.
"Wait… where's my serpent trait? Why does this feel nothing like a fusion technique? Where's the actual skill?"
The fused figure opened its mouth, but the voice was neither Han Li's nor Dugu Yan's it was something entirely new.
"I…"
Before Han Li could respond, a burst of red light flashed, and the fusion abruptly ended.
They separated back into their original forms, staring at each other, completely dumbfounded.
After a long silence, Han Li finally spoke.
"Uh… wanna try again?"
Dugu Yan nodded slowly and reached out her hand.
Over the next half hour, they tried again and again but no matter what they did, the fusion never happened again.
Eventually, a mentally exhausted Dugu Yan had to call it quits.
Han Li, rubbing his temples, grumbled to himself.
"What the hell… Does a martial soul fusion also have failed evolutions? What is this, Digimon?!"
