Chapter 124: Balancing and the Experiment with Dugu Yan
Han Li sighed and looked at Guang Ling.
"Master, my theory is based on my absolute control over the elements. Your ice element is manageable, but your martial soul also has a strong light attribute. Do you really think I can influence your soul power?"
"If I make even a tiny mistake, I could lose my life. That's why I chose Yan jie. What's the rush? Besides, even if you don't have a martial soul fusion technique, there aren't many people on the continent who can stand against you."
"Oh, that's true."
Guang Ling's gloomy expression immediately turned into one of satisfaction as Han Li's well placed flattery struck his heart. It was as if the resentful look he had just moments ago had never existed.
"Besides, don't worry once I've experienced a martial soul fusion technique firsthand, I might be able to find a pattern. Who knows? Maybe you and Qingluan Shibo could develop one too."
"There's no reason why Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo can do it, but you and Shibo can't, right?" Han Li continued painting the perfect picture for his master.
Hearing this, Guang Ling's eyes lit up. He quickly strode over to Han Li, threw an arm around his shoulder, and patted him vigorously.
"As expected, my disciple is brilliant! Fine, I'll be waiting for your good news!"
Shui Bing'er, watching how easily Han Li pacified her unpredictable master, sighed inwardly. She recalled the day when he stormed into her home, wreaking havoc. Who would have thought that one of the Five Elders of the Spirit Hall would have such a peculiar personality?
Then, she glanced at Han Li standing so close to Guang Ling and felt her ears heat up. A martial soul fusion technique… As a soul master, she couldn't deny the allure of such a possibility.
"Alright, Bing'er, let's head over to eat too."
Qingluan had somehow appeared beside Shui Bing'er. Seeing his disciple's slightly flushed ears, he softly reminded her.
"Oh! Yes, Teacher!"
Feeling as though her master had seen through her thoughts, Shui Bing'er quickly withdrew her martial soul and followed the group toward the dining hall.
Even though dinner had turned into a midnight feast, Han Li still ate heartily.
Shui Bing'er sat next to him, also focused on eating, while the others chatted casually, occasionally pulling them into the conversation.
Everyone seemed in good spirits, except for Han Li, who noticed something off Xiu'er was smiling as always, but there was a trace of sadness hidden in her gaze.
After thinking for a moment, he quickened his pace, finishing his meal a little faster.
"Alright, we've all had a long day. Let's get some rest. Yan jie, I'll go take a quick bath first, then come to find you."
Han Li stretched and spoke up.
"Hmm, that's a good idea."
Guang Ling reminded him seriously, "If it doesn't work, just let it go. Getting one fusion technique is already lucky enough."
Even though he was excited, his disciple's safety was his top priority.
"Yes, your master is right," Qingluan added. "Also, thank you, Han Li."
He nodded slightly, expressing his gratitude before motioning for him to go.
"And you two?" Han Li looked at Xiu'er and Shui Bing'er.
"Then I'll head back to prepare. Bing'er, see you tomorrow."
Dugu Yan, thrilled, quickly stood up and waved to Shui Bing'er.
"I'll go cultivate," Xiu'er replied with a soft smile.
"In that case, Xiu'er jie, come with me. I lost some clothes help me find them?"
Han Li turned to Xiu'er, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly.
"Huh? Oh… sure."
Xiu'er was slightly startled but quickly understood Han Li must have something to discuss with her.
After all, ever since Han Li got Qing Ling, he hadn't needed her help organizing his clothes. His outfits were custom made, and the mansion's servants took care of them.
"You? Losing clothes?"
Dugu Yan wrapped an arm around Xiu'er's shoulders and smirked at Han Li.
"Let's not help him! Let's see if he dares to tease me again in the future."
"Come on, people make mistakes sometimes."
Han Li rolled his eyes, then narrowed them mischievously.
"Besides, aren't you heading back early just to clean up, so I can't mock you later?"
Dugu Yan's face turned red.
"You !"
She let go of Xiu'er and lunged at Han Li.
"Looks like I guessed right! I'll be leaving now. Xiu'er jie, help me!"
Han Li waved at the group and bolted out of the room.
Dugu Yan chased after him, and Xiu'er followed after briefly nodding to the others.
Guang Ling watched them go and shook his head.
"They sure have energy. Well, I'm off too. See you tomorrow. You two take your time chatting."
He waved goodbye to Qingluan and Shui Bing'er, then left.
Meanwhile, Shui Bing'er, still at the table, quietly pondered over everything that had just happened.
After playfully messing around with Dugu Yan for a bit, Han Li finally led Xiu'er toward his room.
Once they were inside, Xiu'er turned to him.
"Han Li, what did you want to talk about?"
Han Li looked back at Xiu'er, now slightly shorter than him, and gently pulled her to sit down.
"Xiu'er jie, did you really think you could hide your feelings from me?"
He smiled knowingly.
"But the truth is, I can't rush into testing a fusion technique with you just yet. I still need to study the pattern, and this is my first time experimenting with it too."
Xiu'er blushed slightly she thought she had concealed her emotions well.
Embarrassed, she admitted, "I know, Han Li. It's just…"
"Alright, Xiu'er jie, no more hiding things from me in the future, okay?"
Han Li cut her off, smiling warmly.
"Anyway, I'm off to bathe. Want to stay and help?"
His tone turned playful.
"Ah! I'll be leaving now Yan jie is waiting for you!"
Xiu'er, her face bright red, hurriedly fled the room.
Watching her flustered retreat, Han Li chuckled, quickly freshened up, and headed for Dugu Yan's room.
He knocked, entered, and got straight to business.
"Alright, Yan jie, let's begin."
The two of them stood face to face in the room's open space.
"What do I need to do?"
Dugu Yan was eager.
"First, activate Martial Soul Possession. Then, try absorbing the fire elemental energy I generate with my soul power."
Han Li decided to replicate his experiment with Shui Bing'er to see if it would work.
"Also, if you feel anything off, stop immediately. Your martial soul doesn't have a high fire affinity."
He warned her seriously he didn't want this experiment to negatively impact her cultivation.
"Don't worry, I know. I won't force it."
Dugu Yan nodded firmly, then summoned her martial soul.
Once Han Li saw she was ready, he cautiously directed a small amount of fire energy toward her martial soul.
"Mm…"
As soon as she attempted to absorb it, a soft sound escaped her lips.
