Douluo Dalu: Three-Headed Dragon King

Chapter 168: Ruthless Tang San — A Desperate Decision

By now, the students of Blue Tyrant Academy were already used to Yu Tianming's unpredictable spatial powers. But when they saw Xiao Wu in his arms, Tang San's pupils suddenly contracted, and a stabbing pain surged through his chest.

"Don't misunderstand. I just helped Xiao Wu obtain her fourth spirit ring," Yu Tianming explained casually, handing over a massive Soft Bone Rabbit to Flender. "The finals are almost here. I came across this 4,000-year-old Soft Bone Rabbit in the forest. Please prepare it into a few dishes for everyone."

"I've never tasted such an aged spirit beast before! What a rare delicacy. I'll help Flender handle it," Ma Hongjun leapt to his feet, his plump figure wobbling as he rushed forward.

His eager expression brought a round of laughter from the team.

Amid the commotion, two figures dressed in white entered the Blue Tyrant carriage—one after the other.

"Father! And Grandpa Bone?! Why are you here?" Ning Rongrong cried out joyfully and leapt into Ning Fengzhi's arms.

The gentle Sect Master of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan shared a knowing glance with Sword Douluo behind him, then chuckled, "Rongrong, your spirit must have evolved again."

"But I didn't even summon it yet—how did you know?" she asked, blinking.

"Haha, last time your spirit evolved, you gave off a unique fragrance. It's changed again—more refined. I figured it must've improved."

Unable to conceal his joy, Ning Fengzhi said excitedly, "Rongrong, quickly show Father. Did your Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda gain another level?"

Everyone present watched her expectantly, their eyes full of envy or amazement. The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda was already the strongest support-type spirit in the world—how could it keep evolving?

Proudly, Ning Rongrong revealed her right hand. A delicate, misty nine-story colorful pagoda shimmered in her palm.

"Wonderful, my dear daughter. Your spirit potential has surpassed the limits of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda. Perhaps… one day you'll take that final step…" Ning Fengzhi's voice trembled slightly. Only someone with the same spirit as Rongrong could fully understand just how significant this transformation was.

Ning Rongrong beamed. "Besides the usual percentage-based boosts, I can now add a flat attribute increase. With me around, winning the championship isn't impossible!"

The room gasped in shock. A flat boost on top of percentage increases? That was unheard of.

"Make way! The rabbit's done!" Flender and Ma Hongjun brought over a massive roasted Soft Bone Rabbit, golden and glistening, filling the room with a mouthwatering aroma.

As everyone dug in, Xiao Wu sat in silence, sweat dotting her forehead, her expression tense and terrified.

Tang San, having eaten plenty of rabbit dishes back in his hometown near Sichuan, was still happily munching away. It wasn't until he put down a plate of spicy rabbit that he noticed Xiao Wu's pale face.

"Xiao Wu, are you alright?"

She looked at him, her voice trembling. "Rabbits are so cute… why would you eat them? That's too cruel…"

Before Tang San could respond, Ma Hongjun chimed in, "Don't be fooled by how they look—cheek meat is delicate and tender, the tongue is flavorful and chewy, and brain—ah, it's soft and creamy! Third Brother really knows how to eat!"

Xiao Wu couldn't take it anymore. She bolted from the room, leaving everyone exchanging awkward glances.

Yu Tianming didn't seem to mind. He picked up a tender piece of rabbit meat and placed it into Ning Rongrong's bowl. "Here, Rongrong. You should try it too."

A few days later, the accelerated Heaven Dou convoy arrived early at Spirit City.

Unlike major capitals like Heaven Dou or Soto, Spirit City was small—barely one-tenth the size. But its grandeur and pressure stunned every spirit master. The city walls towered at 80 meters, 30 meters thick, all made from solid granite. Even someone as wealthy as Ning Fengzhi couldn't help but marvel.

Unusually, the city was built in a hexagon, its six sides echoing the six wings of the Seraphim Spirit.

The convoy was received by a red-robed bishop and ushered into the city. Heaven Dou and Star Luo teams were housed separately on opposite sides of the city and would only meet during the tournament.

Once Blue Tyrant settled in, Grandmaster Yu Xiaogang arrived at the inn and met with his godson, Tang San.

"Xiao San, are you alright?" he asked, concerned.

"Father, I suppose you already heard." Tang San sighed deeply. Although his injuries had improved, no one knew the full extent. "Don't worry. I'm fine. Yu Tianming defeated the attackers early. I just got a minor wound."

Yu Xiaogang let out a heavy sigh. "It's my fault. I never should've let you compete. Now you've drawn their attention."

Tang San smiled faintly. "Don't blame yourself. It was a kind of trial. Only by facing true danger can I see how weak I really am. I'll train even harder from now on."

"You're always so understanding," Yu Xiaogang said, smiling. "I'm sorry, though. I failed to get the secret of cultivating twin spirits from the Pope…"

Tang San lowered his head, hiding the flicker of malice in his eyes. So you came back empty-handed? Then what's the point of having a second father…?

But when he looked up again, his face was full of filial affection. "Father, you may not be my blood kin, but in my heart, you're as dear as any parent. I won't let you down."

Yu Xiaogang was moved to tears.

That evening, with sunset bathing the sky in blood-red hues, Tang San arrived at a different room.

"Hmm? Tang San? What brings you here?" Yu Tianxin opened the door and welcomed him in.

Inside sat Ye Lingling of the Nine-Hearted Begonia Spirit. Though her healing powers had no effect on someone like Yu Tianming who could regenerate at insane speeds, they paired well with Yu Tianxin's powerful offense and weaker endurance.

Noticing Tang San's unsteady breathing, Ye Lingling frowned. "You're injured. Where? Let me check."

Tang San hesitated, his expression difficult. "It's… from my lower abdomen to my lower back. The injuries are extensive…"

Before he could finish, Ye Lingling placed a hand on his shoulder. Her spirit sense surged.

What she sensed nearly made her laugh aloud—but as a healer, she held her composure. "Your back injuries, I can heal now. But the internal scarring near your core meridians… those are deep-seated and beyond my ability at the moment."

Three spirit rings lit beneath her feet as gentle green light bathed Tang San's body. He soon sighed in relief, feeling his pain disappear.

Suddenly inspired, he asked with hope, "If I… removed the damaged tissue myself, would your spirit be able to regenerate what's lost?"

Ye Lingling blinked, then smiled. "That's a bold idea. Theoretically… it might work, but my level isn't high enough to guarantee success."

Tang San's eyes gleamed. "Then… please let me borrow your washroom. I'll handle the rest."

Ye Lingling, startled by the steely look in his eyes, quickly pointed to the door. Without another word, Tang San disappeared inside.

When he emerged again, his clothes were already soaked with blood.
