Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Tianhai Grand Tournament
Gu You didn't bother with all the fuss — he quietly slipped away and headed to the classroom.
"Gu Yue?" Gu You spotted her at the far end of the hallway, dressed in her school uniform with her usual blank expression.
Gu Yue had delicate features, though she wasn't exceptionally beautiful — definitely not at the level of someone like Xu Xiaoyan. Yet, she carried a unique aura, something subtle and hard to define, that unconsciously affected those around her.
"Mm." Gu Yue gave a soft reply. Since the events involving Gu You, she no longer trusted any human.
And ever since then, she'd been acting strangely. Even the possessive feelings she once had toward Tang Wulin had gradually faded. Xie Xie had even teased once, "Women, huh — once they find someone better, they forget the old ones…"
They arrived at the classroom together. Along the way, perhaps because they were slightly delayed, they found that Xu Xiaoyan had arrived before them and was already chatting with Tang Wulin and the others. Teacher Wu was probably still handling some affairs and hadn't shown up yet.
'It's him…'
The moment Xu Xiaoyan saw Gu You, her face instantly went pale.
Gu You didn't say anything — he simply returned to his seat.
"Gu You's actually a really good person," Xie Xie said casually. "Your brother really pissed him off that day. I don't even know why he got so mad — but whatever it was, it was something very important to him."
Pretty girls always had a certain affinity about them, and Xie Xie wasn't immune.
"Teacher's here," Tang Wulin suddenly said.
Everyone quickly sat up straight. The zero class hadn't attended the opening ceremony for the new semester; after all, those speeches were pretty pointless. It was the same lines every year — some older students could probably recite the speech on the spot and even remix it into something new.
Wu Zhangkong stepped onto the podium and faced the class. "Today, we'll conduct a comprehensive assessment."
"As for the newcomer here, you should all be aware: she only has one month. If she doesn't meet my requirements, she will leave. Alright! No more talking — let's begin."
Xu Xiaoyan nervously bit her lip. She was determined: she had to pass! This time… she would prove herself worthy.
The series of tests that followed even stirred Wu Zhangkong's usually cold demeanor.
Aside from Xu Xiaoyan's level-17 soul power, the highest was, unsurprisingly, Gu You.
What shocked Wu Zhangkong the most was that he couldn't gauge Gu You's spiritual power at all. That was a terrifying realization. Either the boy's spiritual rank exceeded his own, or Gu You possessed some special method of concealment.
Either way, both were remarkable.
When Xu Xiaoyan reported her soul power, Tang Wulin's mouth twitched slightly.
He'd thought he was already pretty useless… but apparently, there was someone even "more talented" here.
Then came the strength test.
Gu You casually punched the machine — and blew it up. Sparks and smoke burst out, so the others didn't even bother taking their turns.
By the end of the busy morning, all the assessments were basically complete. Gu You was, of course, a total monster — he'd already broken several machines, and Wu Zhangkong didn't dare test him further. But even the others' results were impressive: Gu Yue and Tang Wulin were steadily catching up into the "little monster" category.
Afterward, the six of them had a sparring match against Wu Zhangkong. Xu Xiaoyan's performance far exceeded Wu Zhangkong's expectations, and he officially acknowledged her.
As they left, Xu Xiaoyan gazed curiously at Gu You, who was staring blankly ahead. "Why doesn't he have to spar with Teacher Wu?"
Xie Xie shot her a meaningful look. "He's… a bit special. Just know this: among all of us, he's the strongest. Recognize him as the boss — trust me, you won't regret it."
Xu Xiaoyan nodded in a daze, glancing at Gu You. From the initial fear and shyness when she arrived, to now — after just five or six hours — she was already far less timid. That was pretty good progress. At least she wasn't the silent, emotionally stunted type.
Long Hengxu had been observing the entire match.
He slowly approached Wu Zhangkong and said, "Now, I feel even more confident about your class. I believe I can convince the dean to increase support for you. Teacher Wu, if you have any needs, feel free to speak up."
Wu Zhangkong looked at him calmly. "I believe the children's nutrition needs to be improved further. At this stage, proper nourishment is extremely important. Martial souls are part of the body, and they need abundant sustenance to grow."
Long Hengxu's face twitched slightly, as if he remembered something terrifying. He gave a bitter smile. "If they all had normal appetites, that wouldn't be a problem. But that Gu You eats way too much! He alone could bankrupt the academy's top dining hall. And Tang Wulin eats nearly as much…"
Wu Zhangkong remained unfazed. "Eastsea City produces a wide range of seafood, including many highly nourishing delicacies. Provide them to the children. Their growth requires a solid energy foundation."
Long Hengxu gave a reluctant nod, gritting his teeth. "I'll go submit a request to the school. But Teacher Wu, you know the existence of the zero class already puts a lot of pressure on the dean. The resources you consume are much greater than people imagine — just the spirit ascension platform alone costs a fortune. Thankfully, it's paid off: everyone advanced to thousand-year soul rings. But what the academy needs most now… is honor. Do you understand? So, next, the academy may assign you to compete in the Tianhai Alliance Grand Tournament. Be prepared. Even if you don't achieve the top results, you need to at least impress people and bring honor to the academy. For now, the goal set for you is to win the Outstanding Rookie Award or the Outstanding Rookie Team Award."
"Tianhai Alliance Grand Tournament?" Wu Zhangkong's eyes lit up. Without hesitation, he nodded. "Send me the tournament details."
…
Days blurred by.
In the following period, the students practiced actual combat with Wu Zhangkong, eventually managing to defeat his three-ring state. Gu You, however, remained out of sight. Wu Zhangkong had approved it: Gu You was focused on blacksmithing.
The Tianhai Alliance Grand Tournament didn't just include soul master competitions — it also had blacksmithing contests. With Gu You's current forging skills, winning first place was practically guaranteed. But as the saying goes, one mustn't grow arrogant. Even as a genius, he trained every day. Gu You had already fully mastered spirit refining with 108 premium ores. Now, he was beginning to plan his own one-word battle armor, searching for the right ores and sensing their auras.
One morning, the door to Gu You's dorm was suddenly pushed open. Wu Zhangkong entered, frowning slightly at the cluttered, chaotic room. The air was filled with the harsh smell of metal.
"Tomorrow we depart for Tianhai City. Get ready," Wu Zhangkong announced.
Gu You stretched lazily. This Tianhai City wasn't the little town he'd visited before. It was the largest city on the Eastsea coast — a true first-tier metropolis, boasting a peak economic output that could rival the ancient Heavenly Dou Empire.
The Sun-Moon Federation sure had a lot of cities with duplicate names…
