Divine Magus: Awakening

Chapter 27: D-Rank Tachi

Logan jumped about ten meters from the beast and its open mouth bit into the ground.

Logan wasted no time and covered the distance between them in moments, his hand already prepared with a Dark Shot.

He placed his hand a mere ten centimeters away from its head, he was about to fire it when something hit him with an immense force.

The force flung him away and he only stopped when his back hit a tree.

A wave of shock hit him as his spine bore most of the damage. He looked at the snake and could still see its tail in the air.

'Shit! I forgot about its worm-like body. It can hit me with its tail.' Logan gritted his teeth before leaving the tree he was against.

The beast was staring intently at Logan, it wanted to charge in but the first exchange had taught it that such was unwise.

But alas, it was still a beast and between its hunger and primitive form of intelligence, it chose to follow the former.

It slithered at Logan with great speed but Logan was faster.

He ran to the side of the snake, quickly cast and fired off a Dark Shot.

The dark sphere flew to the beast but before it could hit it, it turned its head to the attack and opened its mouth.

A jet stream of high-pressure water shot out and destroyed the Dark Shot much to Logan's surprise.

Without waiting for him to recover, its tail shot out and hit Logan square in the chest disorienting him.

The head swooped in and snapped shut at Logan. The beast appeared satisfied until it noticed that its mouth was empty.

It looked around and saw Logan a few meters behind it. It hissed loudly and in anger, the cockroach it was fighting was starting to annoy it.

Logan put some more distance between them and quickly assessed the situation.

'Water element, quick movement, and that annoying tail.' He thought as he formulated a tactic to ensure his victory.

The beast fired another stream of water that Logan had to avoid. He jumped away from the attack and that was his mistake.

As he remained suspended mid-air, he saw the snake curl up its body like a spring before it shot itself at breakneck speed with its mouth open.

Logan cursed as he waved four Dark Shots into a Dark Cannon.

The cannon struck the snake's head and weakened its attack to the point where it lost its fatality.

The head still struck Logan and sent him flying. The only reason why the snake hadn't eaten him was because of the Dark Cannon he had cast.

It actively corroded the scales and the skin of the snake.

The snake landed and shook its head to shrug off the pain that it felt. Its reptilians eyes focused on Logan as they became thin vertical slits.

Logan pushed through the pain that filled him and rushed in, the cast and fired a dark shot at the beast who in turn swerved its body to avoid the attack but Logan wasn't done.

Logan closed the space between them and was about to execute his plan when the snake suddenly got engulfed in black flames.

It hissed loudly as it burned, and it spat out water to quell the flames but to no avail. Logan could only watch as the snake turned into ash.

He looked around to find the person responsible and luckily for him- or rather otherwise, he soon saw the person.

Aaron walked calmly into range of view, his eyes glistening with a calm curiosity, his windbreaker slightly fluttered in the air matching his calm demeanor.

"Logan Kress correct?" He stared Logan down, "Yes?" Logan's eyes darted around to assess possible escape routes.

"Hmm, mistrusting. Interesting." Aaron muttered under his breath as his eye never left Logan.

"Don't worry, I am only here to deliver something." He spoke calmly as he approached Logan and stopped only when he stood a meter away from him.

Space flickered and an object appeared in Aaron's hand. Seeing this, Logan's eyes widened, he recognized the spell.

How couldn't he when he had the same one? Aaron had used Dark Space.

"Here, I believe this is yours." He stretched out his hand to give Logan the item. The latter inspected it and found it to be a sword, not just any but a tachi.

It was currently in its scarlet red scabbard so he could only see its black and red handle.

Logan pulled out his long-awaited weapon and couldn't help but be amazed at its looks.

The actual blade was a dark shade of silver with golden runes etched into it.

Most people didn't know the difference between a katana and a tachi. A tachi had a far greater curve with the guard being either circular or rectangular.

Logan gave the blade a few test swings to get a proper feel of the weight and how he could use it in battle.

"Ah yes, the enchantments. There are essentially two engraved into this blade." Aaron tapped his chin as he tried to remember.

"The first allows you to store a spell inside. By this, I mean that you can cast a spell and channel it into the blade. It'll absorb it and create the runes for the spell so that when you want to use it, you'll just pour your mana into the blade and the spell will be cast." Aaron explained the first of two enchantments.

Logan upon hearing this had to stop himself from smiling ear to ear, the enchantment was beyond valuable.

He could cast a Dark Shot or any spell of his choice with the blade while casting another one simultaneously by himself giving him twice the efficiency.

"The second enchantment can only be used once. It'll fill you and your mana core with D-rank mana." Aaron finished the explanation on the enchantments.

Logan's legs shook slightly. This was perfect!

Having access to mana of the D-rank while being in the E-rank was a godsend opportunity.

He could easily imagine himself turning the tide of a near-death battle with these enchantments.

"So now it's time to see how good you are with a sword." Aaron sighed as he pulled out his katana.

The blade was glowing red and seemed ready to incinerate everything in its path.

Logan snapped out of his thoughts, "Wait what?" He gripped the handle of his tachi harder.

Aaron replied by swinging his sword at Logan.
