Chapter 26: Battle Class(2)
Logan stared at Aaron in shock but not as much as the other students.
"The Death Magus is going to be our teacher?! " a male voice screamed in shock, soon followed by murmurs.
"First the Life Magus is our Headmaster for the year and now the Death Magus is our teacher. What's next? The Rune Magus will be serving us food?" A voice sighed, utter disbelief filling its tone.
"I-" Aaron started and the class that had gathered around him out of instinct went silent.
"I found myself colored surprised when I heard that about 60 students picked the Battle Class." He paused as his gaze crossed over the students.
"I personally don't think that all of you are exactly qualified for this class. Some aren't while others are." He looked at Logan for a brief moment before resuming his speech.
"And so, with the permission of the academy of course, I have arranged a little exercise for you all. The task, kill two E-rank beasts and bring their bodies before the end of the period, and as for those who fail…" He paused and the singular eye that wasn't covered by the eyepatch took on a faint red glow.
"You will not be allowed back into the class. You'll be given the opportunity to pick another class if you want." He finalized before raising his index finger to the sky.
A small fireball flew out of it and exploded in the air.
"Now go!" He yelled signaling the students to begin.
Logan walked calmly into the forest while other students ran. He knew he was wasting time but he would rather do so than risk exhausting himself.
As he walked deeper, he could notice a slight shift in the air. It was almost as though his thoughts, the world energy, and even his mana were being forcefully slowed down and weakened.
Since the feeling was negligible, Logan shrugged it off as him feeling the tension of the exercise but took a mental note of it.
He continued to explore for about ten minutes until he stood in front of an abnormally large dead tree.
He studied it and even hit it a few times but nothing happened, he was about to move when he heard the shrill cry of a bird.
He looked up and saw a bird with a wingspan twice his height descending to him, hunger filling its eyes.
The bird flew in steadily until it suddenly accelerated with a large burst of wind.
Logan's body blurred as he jumped back and avoided the bird's attack that crashed into the tree and shattered it into countless splinters.
Logan studied the beast in the brief moment it landed before casting and firing his only offensive spell.
A whirlwind of chaotically sharp wind protected the beast from the Dark Shot as it flew to the sky.
It observed its prey and Logan in turn did the same, this time in detail.
He took note of its pitch black feathers and metallic talons, and its beak was bright yellow.
It let out a mighty cry before dashing in again. The cry affected Logan's mind and he covered his ears as the beast charged in.
The beast extended its talons to grab and rip off Logan's head but when it got close enough, Logan dropped his act.
His body blurred and he cast five consecutive dark shots that formed a Dark Cannon.
The bird tried to stop its flight but it was too late, the Cannon flew to its intended target.
It opened its beak and let out a frigid cry that unleashed an insanely strong gust of wind. The Dark Cannon deviated but still managed to strike its right wing.
It let out a cry of pain as it continued descending to Logan, pain and fury fusing to create unending murderous intent.
Logan seemingly vanished and appeared in front of its open beak with a Dark Shot in his hand.
He let it out and it flew into the beast's beak, pierced its head, and emerged from the other side killing it on the spot.
It collapsed on the ground about a meter from Logan who sat on the ground and let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding.
'Good thing I got those new spells. Otherwise fighting this thing would have been a lot more difficult.' He thought as he studied the body.
The hole he had created through its head had expanded due to the corrosive properties of the Dark Shot spell, and even the damage caused by the Dark Cannon spell wasn't exactly different.
Logan considered using the body of the beast as bait to attract the attention of another but he opted not to take such a needless risk.
For all he knew, two or maybe even three would come at the same time and that would be a situation that he wouldn't be able to get out of in one piece.
Logan let out a heavy sigh before getting up and dragging the body of the beast back to the academy.
He soon left the edge of the forest and could see Aaron standing in the open with several other beasts surrounding him.
The latter studied Logan with interest and curiosity.
Logan pulled it out fully and dropped the beast before heading off into the forest once more but this time, he ran because the time he as well as others had left was little.
Exploring further reaches of the forest, he came across a lake that seemed to be the size of a football stadium.
The water was green and murky making it hard to see below the surface, Logan looked at the ground around him before picking up a rock and hurling it into the lake.
The surface rippled but nothing happened. At least until bubbles appeared frantically on the surface before more ripples spread on the surface.
Logan dashed back with immense speed and at the same time, a figure rose from the lake and struck where he had just been.
He stared as water dripped off the body of his adversary, its green scales appeared to shimmer in the sunlight, and its vertical eyes settled on him.
He looked at the snake that he was going to fight and smiled slightly. He had barely twenty minutes before the period was over and so he had to kill it as quickly as possible.
The snake lunged out of the lake with its mouth aimed at Logan.
