Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space

Chapter 427: Did the Court Send Disaster Relief?

"Sister, how come there's suddenly so much water? Did the government send someone to help?" As they walked, Liu Cheng voiced the doubt in his heart; besides this reason, he couldn't think of anything else.

"What are you thinking?" The woman glanced at her brother, "If the government had water, would we have had to wait until now? It's a gift from the immortals." Upon saying this, the woman suddenly became devout, released Liu Cheng's hands, and bowed with palms together to the heavens; even those few young lads quickly joined in when they saw her gesture.

If they had been asked to bow to the heavens and earth before, these young lads would have definitely scoffed. But this was what they witnessed with their own eyes—seeing the water barrels at home suddenly filled to the brim. At that moment, they were both shocked and afraid, yet joyful, shouting for the adults at home as soon as they realized.

Seeing the water at home steadily increase and fill up, who else but the immortals could do such a thing? At the time, almost everyone knelt on the ground thanking the immortals for the water, and there would've definitely been a full incense burner if they'd had incense.

The woman's smooth actions along with the lads stunned Liu Cheng.

The immortal's water blessing—it just sounded too unbelievable to him.

If immortals could give water, why hadn't they done so earlier?

Yet... his sister didn't seem to be deceiving him, and these young fellows, who usually believed in nothing, were now acting differently. It left no room for him to doubt.

Liu Cheng and the others from Liu Family Gulch simultaneously felt empowered, their steps hastening.

With a unified goal, they hurried home, where the truth would be revealed.

Huajin heard the conversation clearly.

No wonder, she thought, people had come looking for them.

Huajin remembered Liu Family Gulch; it was the village they had visited before Wang Family Village.

One must admit, these people had fairly good luck; this sister arrived just in time. Otherwise, they wouldn't have left so easily, especially Liu Cheng, who would've received his due punishment.

Originally, she wasn't following them intentionally, just heading the same way. Now, there was no need to follow at all. Casting a glance at the receding figures, Huajin released the vehicle and continued her journey.

Overall, she intended to traverse the surrounding villages and towns as comprehensively as possible tonight.

After Huajin sat in the car driven by her father and left, the people of Wang Family Village soon gathered again at the village chief's house, filled with both surprise and joy.

Huajin sped through various villages with the utmost speed, not only covering Shanggu Town but also visiting the three neighboring towns. Busy until the sun rose, eventually too exhausted to continue, both father and daughter entered their space for a deep sleep.

While they slept soundly, the villages and towns within dozens of miles of Shanggu Town saw nearly everyone awake, sweating profusely from the heat, yet kneeling in the earth holes to worship the immortals who gave them water.

In the days that followed, Huajin and her father slept for no more than three hours each day, spending the rest of their time—day or night—driving continuously, Huajin tirelessly distributing water.

Initially, Huajin was a bit worried, but upon seeing that the stream in their space did not drop in water level, her taut nerves eased, and she completely relaxed.

Thus, they traveled from villages to county towns, then to the surrounding villages of those towns, and at last reached the state city.

Huajin considered simpler, faster methods, but ultimately gave up.

The main issue was the scorching sunlight; whether releasing more water into rivers or wells, it all seeped away without replenishing, serving little purpose besides waste.

After several days, Huajin and her father arrived in the state city of Lingyun.

The state city now was vastly different from a few years ago, presenting a completely new appearance, yet still better than Huajin imagined.

The city gates were tightly closed, the majestic walls still standing, despite some noticeable repair marks.

Clearly, the officials of the state city hadn't been idle; they had reinforced the first line of defense to safeguard Lingyun State, capable of fending off invasions, preventing catastrophic collapse.

Nonetheless, the state city resembled a ghost town—silent and lifeless.

Father and daughter gazed fixedly at the weathered, ancient walls for a moment, then turned the car towards the surrounding villages of the state city.

Thus, they spent another two days covering the villages encircling Zhou City, and once more gained devout followers.

Next, they specifically visited the shipyard where they had once acquired boats for free.

Huajin felt somewhat embarrassed, having taken so many boats without paying a single piece of silver, and this visit was meant to offer some form of repayment.

Unfortunately, the shipyard was deserted, nearly collapsed, with mud towering higher than people, the river devoid of boats, though there was still plenty of scattered lumber; even the Yun River, once several meters deep and wide beyond sight, now nearly reaching its bottom.

However, the population around Yun River had surged significantly, evidently drawn by the river.

But judging by the water level, it wouldn't sustain much longer.

Fortunately, people living by Yun River didn't lack water; every household had abundant water stored, their dwelling places filled with grains except for sleeping areas.

The residents by Yun River wouldn't worry for a while, but those living far from the river without transportation faced tougher times, yet her arrival sparked hope in their eyes.

Without means to make amends, Huajin left with a clear conscience.

After resting a few hours in the space with her father, Huajin scaled the walls under the cloak of night.

Under bright moonlight, she caught glimpses of buildings within the state city. Although many areas still appeared chaotic, a lot had been repaired and shared the common trait of tightly shut doors, devoid of human presence.

Clearly, the disaster struck here wasn't as severe as in the county towns; more intact structures existed, and there were fewer visible bodies, a notorious improvement from the county towns.

Along the way, Huajin saw numerous corpses alongside roadsides, sun-dried by the extreme heat.

Initially, both she and her father buried them to rest, but as they encountered too many bodies with limited time, it became impractical. They could only ignore them, and grew numb from frequency.

The succeeding days unfolded the same repeated tasks without releasing her father; her solo actions increased speed.

Plenty of work awaited in the space, keeping her father occupied there.

While moving, Huajin expanded her spiritual power, creating an almost living map in her mind. Except for things buried deep underground, nothing alive or dead could escape her detection.

Noting the expanded area on the map, Huajin raised her eyebrows, a trace of surprise passing through her eyes before she smiled and continued working.
