Chapter 303: Chapter 300: The Death of the Speedster

While Gilgamesh was locked in an intense battle with Xu Wenwu, Makkari was tracking the three remaining Deviants.

Even though the Deviants ran in completely different directions, Makkari's incredible speed allowed her to keep track of all three without losing sight of any of them.

But after a while, Makkari noticed something strange.

She noticed that the three Deviants were slowly moving in the same direction, as if they were planning to regroup.

After some thought, Makkari ran to where she thought they were going. She searched the area, eventually finding a quiet valley where she spotted an old, abandoned wooden hut.

Looking around the cabin, she easily found signs that Deviants had been there recently.

As a scout for the Eternals, this kind of investigation was second nature to her.

But upon closer inspection, Makkari noticed something strange—she could only find traces of Deviants leaving the area, not arriving. It was as if they had appeared out of nowhere.

Even more strangely, she also found evidence that humans had been there.

Why were humans here?

Could the Deviants be controlled by a human?

But how could a human control the Deviants? And why would they want to attack the Eternals?

Wait… if that was true…

Makkari suddenly thought of the missing Kingo and Druig. Her face turned dark.

She looked seriously at the small wooden hut.

Was that human… inside?

A gust of wind blew past, and in an instant Makkari had opened the door and stepped inside at full speed.

But the first thing she saw wasn't a human.

It was a table—and something placed on it.

A head.

Druig's head.

For almost a year, Makkari had worried and thought about her missing friend.

The last time she had seen him was a month before he disappeared. Even though the Eternals had gone their separate ways for centuries, Makkari often visited the others—it only took her a few minutes to travel the world.

And now, the next time she saw Druig… it was just his lifeless head.

The shock was too sudden. Makkari forgot to use her powers. Her face full of grief, she slowly reached for the table, wanting to hold her fallen friend one last time.

But the moment her hand touched Druig's head, three different types of energy suddenly erupted from it.

Makkari froze. A cold frost covered her body, and glowing purple rings appeared around her wrists and ankles.

The temperature in the cabin immediately dropped.

Stun Trap: Makes the target dizzy and unable to move.

Ice Trap: Instantly freezes the target.

Arcane Bind: Creates magical shackles to bind the target's arms and legs.

All three were instant-activation magical traps. Their effects depended on the power of the person who set them and the person who triggered them.

If it had been a normal human, just one of those traps would have been enough.

But Makkari wasn't a normal person, so Josh used all three traps at once.

And it turned out to be the right choice.

The stun trap had no effect at all.

Only the ice trap and the arcane shackles worked.

Even though the traps worked, they could only hold Makkari for a few seconds at most.

But sometimes a few seconds is all you need.

The moment Makkari was caught, two figures suddenly appeared on either side of the table—Vito and Ophelia.

Both were holding vibranium blades. One swung at Makkari's legs, the other at her neck.

The first strike, aided by the cold, sliced easily through Makkari's skin and muscle.

The second reached her bones.

The third broke them.

In just three seconds, they landed three blows.

Makkari's leg was severed, and her neck hung limp. She wasn't dead yet, but she collapsed to the ground, unable to move.

But even after she fell, Vito and Ophelia didn't stop.

They continued to tear at her wounds without pause.

Because they knew—of all the Eternals, apart from Ikaris, their boss feared this speedster the most.

He had even lost sleep over it.

So Makkari had to die.

In the end, just like her dear friend Druig, Makkari was brutally torn apart.

Only after she was killed did the three Deviants finally arrive outside the hut.

Vito and Ophelia exchanged a glance, said nothing, packed up the body parts and contacted Josh.

Back on the plane, where he had been overseeing everything, Josh received the message and smiled with satisfaction.

To be honest, he hadn't expected much from the ambush on Makari—it was more of a gamble.

After all, speedsters were almost impossible to kill.

And the chances were rare.

Now that the biggest threat was finally gone, Josh felt a huge weight lift off his shoulders.

He turned back to the live feed where Xu Wenwu was still fighting Gilgamesh.

But at this point, Wenwu clearly had the upper hand. The fight would soon be over.

Now that the speedster had been taken care of, the only Eternal left with any serious fighting ability was the heavy-set Phastos, the Engineer.

As for Sprite? Sure, her illusion powers were nice, but they only worked on living beings. They were useless against machines.

Wait… no. Something's wrong.

Josh suddenly realized something. The smile on his face vanished.

He had just remembered that Phastos wasn't the only powerful Eternal left.

There was also Thena.

For centuries, Thena had struggled with Mahd Wy'ry, and her condition had been unstable. But to underestimate the former warrior goddess would be a grave mistake.

In the movie, even the enhanced Deviant leader had underestimated her—and he had been cut to pieces for it.

He couldn't afford to let his guard down.

Josh forced himself to calm down.

Meanwhile, inside the Eternal's hut, Thena and Sprite felt a sudden chill in their hearts for no apparent reason.

Only Phastos seemed completely unaffected.
