Dice In The Darkness: Cthulhu Calls

Chapter 145.8

Liu Xing looked at Captain Luo, smiling and said, "Captain Luo, I never thought we’d meet here."

Captain Luo also smiled, looking at the bag in Liu Xing’s hand, and said, "Yes, Dr. Liu, are you out shopping? I just sent a letter to my family at the post office and also sent some money back home. By the way, I rode my motorcycle here. If you’re heading back to the Internet Addiction Treatment Center now, I can give you a ride."

Liu Xing wouldn’t refuse, so he hopped on Captain Luo’s motorcycle and returned to the Internet Addiction Treatment Center.

"By the way, Dr. Liu, don’t mind my meddling, but I have something to tell you," Captain Luo said, parking his motorcycle about 30 meters away from the center, looking like he wanted to say something but was hesitant.

Liu Xing nodded, curiosity written all over his face, and asked, "What is it, Captain Luo? Go ahead and say it, I’m listening."

Captain Luo was silent for a moment before finally making up his mind and saying, "The thing is, Dr. Liu, you should have noticed that there are no other doctors at the Internet Addiction Treatment Center besides Professor Yang and yourself."

Liu Xing thought carefully and realized that the center indeed didn’t have any other doctors.

"To be honest, before you came to the center, Professor Yang had hired four doctors, but they all disappeared suddenly after working for about a month," Captain Luo said, his face serious.

Liu Xing’s eyebrows furrowed, and he asked, "Disappeared? Do you mean they just vanished, rather than quitting their jobs?"

Captain Luo sighed and said, "I also asked Professor Yang, and he told me that those doctors had all chosen to resign and leave the center. But as the head of the Security Guards team, I patrol the center multiple times a day, basically every two to three hours, from 6 am to 10 pm. I can see the center’s main gate from my office, and if anyone wants to leave, I should be able to see them. But I never saw those four doctors leave the center. It’s unlikely they would leave in the middle of the night, considering we’re in a remote area."

Liu Xing nodded silently, thinking that Captain Luo had no reason to deceive him, which meant he had triggered a plot point!

Just as Liu Xing thought this, KP Ghost chuckled and said, "OK, congratulations, player Liu Xing has triggered a Hidden Quest - The Mysterious Disappearance of Doctors. This mission is automatically accepted, and the goal is to find out why the previous doctors disappeared mysteriously. Completing the mission will reward 1000 points, with no penalty for failure. So, Liu Xing, you can choose whether or not to take on this mission."

Liu Xing’s eyebrows rose; the reward for this Hidden Quest was twice the usual completion reward, indicating that the quest was extremely challenging or that it was the true main quest of this scenario.

This was similar to the multiple-ending mode in many modern video games, where besides the usual good and bad endings, there were some special conditions that needed to be met to trigger the true ending.

Due to the high degree of freedom in Cthulhu RPG Game, the same module could have multiple endings. Some mischievous module authors would hide the true main quest, so that when players finally completed the apparent main quest after much struggle, they would discover that they had only finished a side quest, leaving them feeling frustrated.

"Haha, Liu Xing, are you surprised or not? Actually, I can tell you now that there are at least over 10 Hidden Quests in this scenario, and the one you’ve triggered is relatively easy, just a Side Quest. " KP Ghost said with a smile.

Liu Xing wanted to ask KP Ghost a question, but hesitated.

Liu Xing never thought that this seemingly peaceful internet addiction treatment center would be hiding so many Missions.

Just then, Captain Luo, seeing that Liu Xing hadn’t responded, walked up and patted Liu Xing’s shoulder, asking concernedly, "Dr. Liu, are you okay?"

Liu Xing snapped back to reality, shaking his head and laughing, "I’m fine, I was just thinking about why these doctors suddenly left."

"Must be because of Professor Yang!" Captain Luo said decisively.

Captain Luo didn’t wait for Liu Xing’s response and continued, "I’m sure it’s because of Professor Yang, and I even suspect that Professor Yang is mentally ill. Sometimes I see him talking to himself in his office, doing strange things like suddenly dancing and singing weird songs..."

Liu Xing interrupted Captain Luo, "Captain Luo, can you describe how weird Professor Yang’s songs are?"

Captain Luo thought for a moment, struggling to explain, "Uh, it’s like many different languages being forcibly combined together."

Liu Xing’s eyebrows furrowed, realizing that he didn’t know Professor Yang as well as he thought, and everything became mysterious and unclear.

Liu Xing couldn’t help but contact KP Ghost, "KP, isn’t this supposed to be a welfare module? Now it looks like a trap module."

KP Ghost chuckled and said seriously, "This module is indeed a welfare module. After all, you can pass directly and get 500 points."

Liu Xing was speechless.

"Okay, Liu Xing, I know you’re a good person, so I hope you’ll think carefully about whether to continue working at the internet addiction treatment center. To be honest, I think Professor Yang is very suspicious, and if the salary weren’t so high, I would have left already." Captain Luo said with a heavy heart.

Liu Xing nodded, forcing a smile, "I understand, thanks for your advice, Captain Luo."

Captain Luo nodded and then pushed his motorcycle, leading the way into the internet addiction treatment center.

Liu Xing, who needed to deliver wine to Uncle Qin, went directly to the security room.

As soon as Liu Xing entered the security room, Uncle Qin spoke without turning his head, "Liu Xing, did you come back with Captain Luo?"
