Liu Xing’s eyebrows rose; the reward for this Hidden Quest was twice the usual completion reward, indicating that the quest was extremely challenging or that it was the true main quest of this scenario.

This was similar to the multiple-ending mode in many modern video games, where besides the usual good and bad endings, there were some special conditions that needed to be met to trigger the true ending.

Due to the high degree of freedom in Cthulhu RPG Game, the same module could have multiple endings. Some mischievous module authors would hide the true main quest, so that when players finally completed the apparent main quest after much struggle, they would discover that they had only finished a side quest, leaving them feeling frustrated.
