Devil's Luck Pirates

Chapter 6: What They Wanted to Know

-Captain! Captain! Please come back to us!

Duros pleads to his captain with wet eyes.

-Stop screaming. It was just sleeping poison. He will be fine.

Pearl reassures him after finishing patching William's wounds.

The rest of the group wasn't so badly injured. Except for Ragnar who took more kicks than he would like to admit.

After some time, William wakes up. A little bit dizzy, but he'll be ok.

Duros after seeing his captain awake hugs him tightly with tears of happiness.

-Oh! I'm so glad you're alive, captain!

-Yes… I'm glad too… – William responds.

-So, you're Captain William, correct?

The boy that was previously tied up with a hook on his mouth is now free with some bandages on his cheek, extending his hand to William.

-I suspect you're the son of the shipwright, Samillion, correct? – William shakes his hand.

-Yes. Your crew told me everything. Thank you for rescuing me.

-Oh, don't worry. We would never pass on the opportunity to do such a noble action.

William says trying to show off the good spirit that he never had.

-Yeah, you don't need to lie. Your crew told me it was in exchange for a ship because you pirates have no money.

William, annoyed, looks at his crew landing his eyes on Verona.

-Hey, it wasn't me this time. The girl sold us out. – He says pointing at Pearl.

William looks at her. Then sighs having no energy to get into a discussion with Pearl at the moment.

-Let's just get out of here… But first, – William goes and picks up the violin that managed to survive Ragnar's rage – I'll keep this.

They pass through the manor's courtyard with no problems. The guard is now sleeping soundly on his bushes so the group simply goes through the gate with Pearl leaving the key on the inside.

-By the way, what those guys wanted from you? – Verona asks as they walk through the city.

-Oh… It was about something important to our family. And I swore to never tell anyone about it.

Samillion's conviction is very remarkable for a boy his age. Even after being kidnaped and tortured, he stood by his promise and didn't tell them anything. Duros is very proud of him.

-Tsk. I bet there's treasure involved. – William says beneath his breath.

-How scummy can you be? You're already getting a ship from his father. – Somehow Pearl managed to hear him and punches his arm not so slightly.

They arrive at the Sparrow Eye Tavern. The desire to rest is great. But their desire to drink is greater.

They swing open the door and enter with a triumphant air behind them.

-Well, color me impressed. I didn't think you guys would make it. – The man with the bandana greets them with a big smile on his face.

-Everyone! We've succeeded in our rescue mission. Welcome your beloved friend, Samillion, safe and sound! Well, not so much. – William announces after he and the crew enter the tavern. Presenting Samillion like the honored guest.

-Samillion! – Little Timmy jumps from his chair and hugs him. – I'm glad you're ok!

Samillion simply smiles and hugs him back.

-CHAHAHA! Was there any doubt that we could make it?! Bartender, serve us some drinks, my good friend!

-O-Oh, sure. I'm glad you gentlemen are still alive.

The group sits down at the table as the bartender brings them their drinks. Duros pulls the bartender for a friendly embrace convincing him to pour himself a drink too. William lends his newly acquired violin to Big Timmy who starts playing pretty adeptly for someone his age.

William raises his mug full of ale gathering the attention of everyone in the tavern.

-Men! We toast the successful rescue of your good friend Samillion! CHEERS!!

-CHEERS! – Everyone raises their drinks in celebration.

-I still think that we should have invited his father to the celebration too. – Duros says looking at his drink rather saddened.

-Oh don't worry my friend. We'll not take long with our little celebration. – William assures his first mate.

-Well, if that is the case. – Duros downs his mug of ale and pulls the bartender over to continue their celebration.

-Hehe… Also, if we get him drunk enough, he may tell us something about that treasure of his-

William once again said beneath his breath and once again Pearl heard him and punched him on the side.

They spend a good time drinking with everybody. Little Timmy plays some cards with Verona and Duros who aren't very good at this type of game. Pearl and Ragnar get into a drinking competition with Ragnar coming out as the winner but not by much. William trying to get something out of Samillion just to realize that he isn't even drinking alcohol. Everyone having a merry time. You could almost forget the corpses hanging from the gallows.

They end their little celebration close to midnight. Everyone in the tavern waving the crew on their way out.

-Well, we probably won't see each other again. But I will always remember the good time we spent tonight. – Says William putting on his bicorn hat – Also, Little Timmy.

-Huh? – The boy raises his head as William throws him his trusty spoon.

-You may keep it. It will bring you good fortune.

They go back to the shipwright's workplace as they hear Little Timmy celebrating his new treasure.

Back at the shipwright's hose, Frigeworth is sitting on a chair feeling rather nervous. He trusted the life of his precious son to some random pirates he met this same day. So, he's understandably unsure if they could bring his son back.

However, his worries end with a knock on the door.

He quickly goes to open it.

-Hey dad. I'm back. – Samillion says right before his father hugs him with all his might.

-My son! I'm so happy you're safe! – Tears running down to his magnificent mustache.

-Oh, isn't that beautiful. – Duros wipes a tear from his eye.

The group enters the house with a smile. Happy to see this beautiful reunion. Specially Ragnar.

Frigeworth turns to the crew and bows deeply.

-Thank you so much for saving my son. I could never repay you enough for what you have done.

-Now, now. There is no need to be so formal. We did what was right and ask for nothing in return. – Duros says.

-Well… We already agreed with a ship so... – William says coming from behind Duros.

-Oh yes. Your ship will be ready tomorrow. I just need to finish the details. If you'd like to stay here for the night, I have some beds on the back that you guys can use.

-We'll certainly get on that offer. – William says already making himself at home as the others do so.

Samillion tells the whole story to his father. About who kidnaped him and how the group saved him in a pretty bloody way.

-By the way, what those Anglers wanted with you anyways. – Frigeworth asks his son.

-Yeah, I also wanted to know-

William says just to be punched in the side by Pearl yet again.

-Give op on that already! He's not gonna tell you.

-Could you stop with that! Any more, and you'll end up breaking one of my ribs! – William exclaims as he wonders how a girl her size can punch so hard.

-Ah, they wanted to know about the treasure map that grandad buried in the woods. I've sworn to never tell anyone about it. So my lips stayed shut!

-Boy, your life isn't worth that piece of paper! – His father scolds him but feeling proud for his conviction at the same time.

William's ear perks up as if he heard the sound of gold coins. – …Treasure you say…

-…Sorry father. – Samillion says disappointed with his carelessness.

Pearl simply face-palms. It looks like there are more idiots in this world than she had imagined.

Frigeworth puts a hand on his son's head – Don't worry about it, son. We aren't going to do anything with it anyways. – He goes to his workshop for a moment and comes back with a scroll of paper in his hand.

The crew now seems very interested when he comes back with that scroll. That's a real treasure map. The first one these guys have ever seen in their lives.

-Do you guys know what a Devil Fruit is?
