Demon Slayer: Strength Gained with Every Swing of the Sword

Chapter 45: Chapter 46: Don’t Overwork Yourself

After Feng Yu had slain the Lower Moon Rank 4 demon, Mukago, he made his way to the body of the Demon Slayer Corps member who had been killed earlier by her.

The grey clothes of the corpse bore a large "灭" (Exterminate) on the back, indicating that this was indeed a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. However, Feng Yu wasn't sure what rank they held.

"Rest in peace…"

Feng Yu's face was emotionless. Since arriving in this world, death had become a common sight to him.

Soon, Feng Yu buried the body of the Demon Slayer Corps member, and a simple gravestone was placed at the mound, inscribed with the words:

"Rest in peace, Unknown Demon Slayer."

Having completed this, Feng Yu pulled out a bottle of beer from his system inventory and poured half of it on the grave.

"This is beer. You should try it sometime!"

"Oh, and here are some peanuts too!"

Drinking his beer and munching on peanuts, Feng Yu finally cracked a smile.

"Brother, may you have a good journey."

With that, Feng Yu mounted Xiao Hei and left the forest.

...

A loud "Bang!" echoed from the ancient castle.

A finely-dressed man in noble attire shouted in fury, "Useless! You're all useless! I gave you so much blood, and in less than a month, two Lower Moons have been killed!"

"Useless!"

"Fox, that damned fox!"

The beautiful-faced man was none other than Muzan Kibutsuji. He was still playing his charade of dressing up in civilian clothes.

The memories from Mukago before her death showed a fox mask-wearing figure — Feng Yu.

"I've never seen that sword before, nor the mask, but it seems to have some special power… From Mukago's memories, it seems like the mask might have the ability to rip apart souls…"

"And that sword, I feel like I've seen it somewhere before…"

...

Meanwhile, Feng Yu was lying on Xiao Hei's back, finally getting a real rest. His breathing had calmed and returned to normal.

"Over two million sword swings... Should I try to perform an analysis on the Light Breathing technique?"

"If the cost for analyzing the Water Breathing technique is anything to go by, Light Breathing should be the same price..."

"But I've only just earned those two million sword swings... Do I really want to spend them so quickly?"

Feng Yu hesitated, but eventually decided to proceed with the Light Breathing analysis.

"Ding. Insufficient conditions to perform analysis on this item!"

"Failed? Insufficient conditions?"

Feng Yu looked at the system notification, puzzled.

"Could it be that Light Breathing hasn't reached its limit? Or is the condition just something I'm not meeting?"

The system remained cold and unresponsive, offering no further explanation.

After some thought, Feng Yu decided to stop dwelling on it. If he couldn't rely on the system, he'd just have to figure it out on his own.

"Forget it. I'll just sleep. What's meant to be will be."

Time passed quickly, and before dawn, Xiao Hei had successfully delivered Feng Yu to the Butterfly Mansion.

"Ca-ca, Lord Feng Yu, I'm heading back to rest now."

Xiao Hei spoke respectfully and even performed an exaggerated bow.

"Xiao Hei, where did you learn those strange gestures from?" Feng Yu asked, bewildered.

"Ca-ca, Master, I saw humans do it. They said it's a way of showing respect..." Xiao Hei chirped.

"Stop copying these silly things. Just be yourself," Feng Yu waved him off.

"Ca-ca, alright, Master! I thought you'd like it... ca-ca."

"I won't do it next time..."

Once Xiao Hei's curiosity was piqued, it was hard to stop him from trying new things.

With that, Xiao Hei eagerly flew off.

Feng Yu felt a little helpless, but there was nothing he could do to stop Xiao Hei's actions. He knew the raven had quite a few "wives" in his harem now, probably rushing back to enjoy his time with them.

"Ah! Lord Feng Yu has returned!"

The three sisters of the mansion, Kiyo Terauchi, called out in surprise upon seeing him.

"Well, it's been a while. How are you all?" Feng Yu greeted with a smile, nodding at them.

"Lord Feng Yu, did you have breakfast yet? Would you like to join us?" asked the three young girls.

"Sure, I was just about to get breakfast. Let's go together."

And so, the four of them, along with Xiao Bai, quickly made their way to the dining hall.

As Feng Yu was picking out food, a voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Moshi Moshi, Feng Yu-kun, did you return after completing your mission?"

To his surprise, it was the long-missed Shinobu Kochou. Today, her hair was as messy as ever, showing she had been busy with research.

"Yes… Miss Shinobu," Feng Yu replied.

"Feng Yu-kun, it's only been a few days, but you seem even stronger now..." Shinobu observed. The difference between the Feng Yu she saw now and the one she had known before was so obvious.

In the past, Feng Yu's breathing had been irregular, but now, after his return, he was calm and composed, his breath clear and controlled. It was as if he was breathing for the sake of breathing itself, having achieved a pure state.

Such mastery was only seen in the likes of Giyu Tomioka and Kanao Tsuyuri.

"After just a few days, Feng Yu has improved this much. I'm so curious about what happened to you," Shinobu said, sitting beside him.

"So, you've created your own Water Breathing techniques? And now you've mastered the Fourth Form of Light Breathing?"

Shinobu asked in disbelief.

"Feng Yu-kun, you truly are a genius..."

Her eyes quickly darkened.

"I wish I could become stronger like you, but even though I've created a low-tier version of the Detoxification Elixir, and I've reached the peak of my power in these few days, I'm still not improving as quickly as you..."

"I remember, my sister once told me I was a genius..."

Upon hearing Shinobu speak of her sister, Feng Yu saw her eyes glisten with unshed tears.

He didn't know how to comfort her, realizing that his words, although motivated by the system's presence, had unintentionally stirred her sense of self-worth.

"Miss Shinobu, here, take these. Maybe they can help you..." Feng Yu quietly handed her a few Detoxification Pills.

"These... Feng Yu-kun, you've already done so much for me. These pills are so precious, you should keep them for yourself." Shinobu hesitated.

"No, Miss Shinobu. What I give you, you should take. Don't worry about me. Take care of your body, don't wear yourself out. Those who have passed are gone, and those who are alive should live well. Don't make life harder than it has to be…"

Shinobu, still processing what he said, looked down to find five Detoxification Pills now in her hand.

"Damn… who are you to tell me what to do?"

For the first time, Shinobu, usually the picture of grace and composure, shed tears, holding the pills tightly in her hand, staring at Feng Yu's retreating back, unable to shake the strange feeling stirring within her heart.

In that moment, although she was angry, a different kind of emotion had taken root deep inside her.
