Demon Slayer: Strength Gained with Every Swing of the Sword

Chapter 44: Chapter 45: Accidentally Picking Up a Lone Lower Rank Demon on the Road

"Vroom!"

A row of trees swayed violently as a powerful gust of wind swept through them.

"Caw, caw! Master, I'm here!"

The massive body of Xiao Hei soared through the sky, its loud cries echoing through the clouds.

"Shut that crow's mouth! Didn't I tell you, don't change to your big form all the time!" Feng Yu scolded Xiao Hei.

"Master... Xiao Hei is just a crow..." Xiao Hei, now in a smaller form, landed on the ground, feeling wronged.

"Alright, I'm not blaming you anymore. Look at you, you're as pitiful as a wronged wife. Let's head back to the Butterfly House after it gets dark," Feng Yu said, sensing that Xiao Hei's power had grown once again, with a hint of golden feathers appearing among the once jet-black ones.

"Damn... Could it really be transforming into a Golden Crow?" Feng Yu thought, unable to imagine it.

All it took was a beast's breathing technique and some cleansing elixirs to turn Xiao Bai, a former white fox, into a two-tailed fox with divine power.

And now, the crow…

Its intelligence was growing, and even its expression was becoming more human. The color change was another surprising development.

"Could this really be a bloodline regression...?" Feng Yu wondered.

"Caw, master, why do I feel like you've changed..." Xiao Hei said mischievously.

"Huh? Changed? What changed?" Feng Yu asked.

"Caw, master, you've become stronger!"

Feng Yu and Xiao Bai exchanged glances, looking at Xiao Hei as if he were mentally challenged.

"Caw, looks like I guessed right, hahaha!" Xiao Hei, seeing their silence, thought he had become particularly powerful and burst out laughing.

"Could it be... Xiao Hei's brain is broken?" Feng Yu asked Xiao Bai.

"Master, don't ask me, I don't know, I don't know it..." Xiao Bai quickly denied, clearly annoyed, as if Xiao Hei were nothing but a bad omen to it.

Xiao Hei continued to amuse himself, completely unaware of the concerned looks from the two.

"Forget it, Xiao Bai. Let's just keep our distance from him... his brain isn't working properly!" Feng Yu said with a hint of pity, watching Xiao Hei act with such abandon.

Xiao Hei, bouncing around and full of energy, seemed to have endless stamina while Feng Yu and Xiao Bai leaned against each other, watching the sky darken.

Soon, it was nighttime.

The "Xiao Hei Plane" roared to life, and Feng Yu and Xiao Bai stood on Xiao Hei's back, resting as the bird flew smoothly through the night sky.

Xiao Hei had gone from being awkward when carrying passengers to becoming a seasoned pro.

"Master, you just sleep peacefully. I won't disturb you," Xiao Hei cooed.

"Mm."

Feng Yu nodded lightly with his eyes still closed.

As the night deepened, the moonlight grew more intense. Feng Yu could feel the rhythm of his breathing change. It had unknowingly transformed into the Breath of Light technique.

"At this moment, all light can be drawn to me. They will reveal what I need to know..." Feng Yu's eyes slowly opened.

"Xiao Hei, land. It's time to make some money…"

Xiao Hei seemed confused but complied and began to slowly descend.

In the Dark Depths of the Forest

A pair of eyes, marked with the symbol of the lower rank demon, glinted from the shadows. This figure had white hair with horns, a face adorned with symmetrical red lines, and a chin covered with white hair. Her bangs were short, and she wore a simple red kimono with a black-and-white fur collar and a large purple bow on her back. Her eyes, with red irises, belonged to a young, cute-looking demon girl leisurely devouring a finely cut thigh of a grown man.

"This part really is the most delicious…" She bit down, and a blissful expression appeared on her face.

Drool dripped from her lips.

"Ugh, it's so good... I haven't had such tasty meat in ages..."

At this moment, Mukago seemed like a starving ghost, devouring the flesh greedily. Occasionally, she would pause, only to quickly resume eating faster than before.

"No, no, I can't eat so fast… I need to savor it," she said, her face conflicted, but soon desire overtook her, and she resumed her frantic eating.

"I just want to eat…" she muttered as she continued.

Feng Yu, perched on a treetop, calmly observed the demon girl who was gorging on the meat.

"Look at her small, cute form. It's definitely Mukago..." Feng Yu thought, recalling his past life's knowledge of Mukago: a particularly timid demon, known for fleeing whenever encountering the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. She was once a child before turning into a demon and was named after food, symbolizing the fate of being devoured by Muzan in the end.

"Her blood demon art hasn't been fully revealed, though…" Feng Yu mused, not underestimating this timid demon. After all, she was one of the Twelve Kizuki, even if she was only a lower rank.

Quietly, Feng Yu spoke to Xiao Bai in his mind. Xiao Bai nodded and disappeared into the darkness.

"Who?" Mukago immediately shifted into a defensive posture, scanning the surroundings warily.

"Eek?"

In the dark, Xiao Bai's figure emerged into Mukago's view.

"Scared me! I thought it was the Demon Slayer Corps… It's just a little white fox. Go away, go away, don't disturb my meal!" Mukago growled fiercely, trying to intimidate Xiao Bai.

However, Xiao Bai simply sat down calmly and watched Mukago eat, unbothered.

Mukago felt uncomfortable under Xiao Bai's gaze and decided to attack.

"Stinky fox, disturbing my meal, I'll make you die!" She rushed toward Xiao Bai.

Xiao Bai tilted her head, a faint smile on her face.

Suddenly, her tail split into two, and countless beams of light gathered between the tails.

The energy fluctuated rapidly, growing stronger.

Mukago was alarmed. She sensed the danger emanating from the energy radiating from Xiao Bai's tails.

"How is this possible? What's going on with this fox?" she thought, her instincts telling her to flee. But Xiao Bai wouldn't let her escape.

The energy ball was thrown, hurtling toward Mukago.

"Not good!" Mukago shouted.

"Blood Demon Art: Hunger's Potato!"

A pale yellow energy appeared in front of Mukago.

"Boom!"

A deafening explosion shook the forest, clearing an area where the blast had occurred.

As the smoke cleared, Mukago was unharmed, but her face twisted with fury. She muttered through clenched teeth, "Damn fox… You ruined my delicious food… Unforgivable!"

"Blood Demon Art: Demon Buds!"

Vines erupted from the ground, spiraling toward Xiao Bai, wrapping around her.

Xiao Bai tried to summon another energy ball to blast the strange vines away, but Mukago wasn't going to let her have it so easily. Her body darted forward, attacking Xiao Bai head-on.

"Master!" Xiao Bai cried out.

"I'm coming! Total Concentration, First Form: Moonlight Slash!"

A Sword of white light flashed through the air, cutting through the vines entangling Xiao Bai.

"Not good!" Mukago shouted, realizing that Feng Yu's sword was already inches from her.

"Blood Demon Art: Hunger's Potato!"

A barrier appeared, blocking Feng Yu's fatal strike.

"Your reaction speed is impressive…" Feng Yu remarked.

"Demon Slayer? Are you a Hashira?" Mukago asked, seeing Feng Yu wielding the Demon Slayer Sword and wearing the eerie fox mask.

The sight of him made her shiver; she could feel a primal fear, as if facing her natural enemy.

"You're not escaping," Feng Yu said with certainty.

"Total Concentration, Breath of Light, Fourth Form: Salvation!"

Like the light after winter's end, Feng Yu's slash severed Mukago's head.

"How… how is this possible?" Mukago's tearful face showed disbelief as her head fell to the ground.

"I think... I'm dying, but I don't feel any pain... And I'm finally not hungry anymore..."

Mukago's thoughts drifted to the memories of her life before becoming a demon.

"This light feels so warm... If I had met such a light back then, I wouldn't…"

Her face, now calm, transformed into a peaceful smile as she found what she had always longed for.

"Thank you... Thank you..."

She tried to memorize the face under the fox mask, but the speed of her dissolution had already reached her eyes.

"Ding! Congratulations on earning 2 million sword swings."

Looking at the large sum that appeared in his account, Feng Yu felt a deep sense of satisfaction. He removed his fox mask.

"Looks like this mask worked well…"

"Wait, no... It's the night that's really nice. I've picked up a lone lower rank demon after all."
