DC Heroes in Marvel

Chapter 294: C254

"It's Captain America! So the people with him must be the Avengers. Are they all here?"

"Wait, there are two faces I don't recognize. Are they new Avengers?"

"One of them is Harry—Harry Osborn. You have to know him. The other is Flint Marko, also known as Sandman. It was announced on the Avengers' official website. Sandman was a criminal, but S.H.I.E.L.D. pardoned him, and he switched sides to join the Avengers."

"Sandman... wasn't he the guy who got beaten by that ghostly-looking dude at the docks?"

"Yeah, that's him!"

"Hah! So the Avengers are just picking up the Justice League's leftovers now? Their new recruit is someone the Justice League already defeated? That's embarrassing."

"Last time, the Avengers got completely wrecked by the Justice League. And now, the only new hero they're adding is the one defeated villain who didn't even fight in that battle? Aside from Harry, every single Avenger here has lost before. This is just sad."

From a safe distance, onlookers murmured among themselves, their voices filled with amusement and skepticism.

As the epicenter of the Marvel Universe, New York had seen its fair share of disasters. The residents who refused to leave had long since adapted.

Their approach to chaos was simple:

Don't panic. Step back. Watch the show.

Someone would always step in to handle the crisis.

Ever since Batman appeared, an entire era of superheroes seemed to have begun. Many New Yorkers now aspired to become heroes themselves, taking their dreams seriously enough to put them into action.

These individuals were often called street heroes.

Recently, two of them—The Punisher and Kick-Ass—had been making headlines.

The former was ruthless, executing criminals without hesitation. The latter was more comedic, but still managed to make waves in the news.

Despite their different styles, both had gained recognition for taking down drug dealers and cleaning up the streets. They even had their own fan bases.

As everyone knew, the most famous superheroes inevitably ended up in either the Justice League or the Avengers.

For many street heroes, Batman was the ultimate idol. Their greatest ambition?

Meet Batman. Join the Justice League.

And if that didn't work out?

Well… Captain America and the Avengers weren't a bad backup plan.

New York Police Department

Meanwhile, at NYPD headquarters, Police Chief George Stacy was having a rough morning.

The previous day, Eddie had given him a warning that left him uneasy. As a result, he barely slept, spending the entire night restless and paranoid.

Now, he sat at his desk with dark circles under his eyes, exhausted but relieved.

Time passed. Everything seemed normal. No disasters, no chaos.

Maybe he had worried for nothing.

Even so, given his vague understanding of Eddie's connections, he had taken precautions. He instructed all patrolling officers to stay alert and be ready to take action if necessary.

Satisfied with his foresight, George finally allowed himself to relax.

For about two minutes.

BOOM!

The door to his office was suddenly kicked open.

A frantic officer burst in, breathless and panicked.

George froze.

A deep sense of dread settled in his stomach.

He knew his officers well. For someone to be this desperate, barging in and literally kicking down his door…

Something had gone terribly wrong.

A few minutes had barely passed…

"What now?"

George groaned internally, his face filled with genuine nervousness. He asked in a solemn tone, "What happened? Is this another major event that could alarm Batman?"

"Batman hasn't shown up, but…"

The officer panted, swallowing hard before continuing. "Captain America is here. And so are all the Avengers."

"What?"

George was stunned. "What are they doing?"

"Times Square."

"They've surrounded someone… I think a fight is about to break out."

"I see… So that's why Eddie warned me to stay alert."

George let out a breath, though the tension in his face didn't ease. He quickly gave orders, "Alright, mobilize everyone. And notify the task force—if the Avengers need backup, we'll be ready."

"Understood!"

The officer nodded and rushed off to carry out the orders.

Times Square

The once-busy, crowded square had become eerily empty. Civilians had quickly retreated to a safe distance, watching from afar.

Now, only the Avengers remained—along with a lone, unidentified man in a cap, standing at the center of their encirclement.

"Victor, where is the Tesseract?"

"You've got some nerve showing up without it. Pretty bold move."

The Avengers glared at Doom, their gazes sharp.

Upon realizing that he wasn't carrying the Tesseract, their brows furrowed. Something felt off.

Doom's entire reason for stealing the Tesseract was to enhance his power.

So why was he here, in the open, without it?

It didn't add up.

"You're all talk." Doom smirked, his tone dripping with mockery. "I bet the pressure's getting to you now, huh? The Tesseract is gone. The Pegasus Project has failed. And all you can do is stand here, hoping I'll reveal something. Do you actually have any plan other than waiting for me to slip up?"

Even without the Tesseract in his possession, Doom remained unnervingly calm. A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, radiating pure confidence.

"Enough of this!"

"Take him down!"

The Avengers exchanged a glance—there was no hesitation.

They had no intention of letting Doom gloat any longer.

Whoosh!

Captain America flung his shield.

Hawkeye loosed an arrow.

Sandman shifted into his elemental form.

Doctor Octopus activated the mechanical arms on his back.

Tony and Harry, clad in their suits, took to the air, while Black Widow, her energy surging, charged forward from the ground.

Boom!

The Avengers' coordinated assault was nothing short of overwhelming.

For the New Yorkers watching from the sidelines, it was a breathtaking spectacle.

Their eyes widened, fixated on the battle, afraid to blink and miss a second of the action.

Sure, they had seen superhero footage online before—but low-resolution clips didn't compare to witnessing it live.

And right now, they had front-row seats to the show of a lifetime.

Street hero battles were common in New York, but most of them involved basic hand-to-hand combat or gunfights. None of them came close to the sheer scale and intensity of what was happening now.

This wasn't just a fight—it was a spectacle.

And then, something even more shocking happened.

As soon as the Avengers launched their attack, fierce electric currents erupted, crackling violently. Above them, dark storm clouds rapidly gathered, filling the sky with rolling thunder.

RUMBLE!!

The deafening sound of thunder echoed through New York.

At the center of Times Square, powerful winds howled, swirling around the enemy standing against the Avengers.

BOOM!!

Electric arcs ignited all around, charged with raw energy, colliding fiercely against the Avengers' assault.

Under the watchful eyes of hundreds, the Avengers' coordinated strike finally broke through the crackling electricity and landed on their target—knocking off the enemy's cap and revealing his face.

A stunned gasp rippled through the crowd.

"He's… Victor Doom?"

People recognized him instantly. Doom wasn't just a wealthy entrepreneur; he had once been an Avenger. His recruitment had been publicly announced, making him a well-known figure.

"Wait, Doom was with the Avengers! Why is he fighting them now?"

"Is this another Hydra situation?"

"Doom… is a traitor?"

"Jeez, why do the Avengers always have traitors?"

The crowd buzzed with excitement, their curiosity outweighing any real concern for the situation.

BZZZZZZT!

Electricity crackled violently as the Avengers tightened their formation around Doom.

Yet, despite taking a direct hit, he barely seemed affected.

It was like punching a pillow—there was impact, but no real damage.

"No way…"

Tony's expression darkened. "Victor's abilities involve controlling electricity and metal. But even though he just used lightning, something's… off."

Harry's eyes narrowed. He understood immediately.

"You're not Victor Doom."

At those words, the supposed Doom chuckled.

"Oh?" He smirked. "You figured it out that fast? Looks like all those past failures have finally made you smarter."

As he spoke, his entire body shimmered—like a reflection in rippling water, distorting and shifting.

An illusion.

It was the exact phenomenon they had seen when Doom escaped from the base.

"You're not getting away!"

Captain America lunged, attempting to grab him—

BOOM!

Lightning exploded from the storm clouds above, a jagged bolt slashing through the air, blindingly bright.

But its target wasn't the fake Doom.

CRACK! CRACK!

The lightning struck the ground in front of Cap, forcing him to halt.

He clenched his jaw, eyes scanning the battlefield.

The other Avengers rushed in, once again surrounding the imposter.

"Who was that just now?"

"Electric manipulation… That was the real Doom! He's nearby!"

The team exchanged quick glances, their senses heightened.

Then, the fake Doom laughed softly.

"Ignorant humans." His voice carried an amused arrogance. "You really think an ordinary superpower could generate that level of electricity?"

Harry frowned. "You're saying that wasn't Doom?"

The imposter smiled.

"Of course. If that attack really came from him…" He glanced toward the scorched ground where the lightning had landed.

"Then why did it miss?"

At this moment, the fake Doom had completely abandoned the idea of fleeing.

Someone was about to appear—someone whose power could expose his true identity and reveal his loyalties.

BOOM!!

Fierce electric currents surged through the storm clouds above, crackling with energy.

Everyone looked up, sensing a presence hidden within the dark clouds and lightning.

SWISH SWISH SWISH!

A sharp, eerie sound sliced through the air.

BOOM!

Another bolt of lightning shot down from the clouds, splitting the sky in an explosive display. The flash exploded in mid-air, creating a spiderweb of light that spread across the sky like a terrifying natural disaster.

And then, amidst the lightning, a figure emerged.

The figure was wielding a warhammer, his red cloak billowing behind him as he descended with incredible speed through the dark clouds, surrounded by crackling electricity.

"He is..."

Hawkeye's eyes widened in disbelief, his voice barely a whisper.

All his companions shared his stunned reaction, but Hawkeye's recognition was instant. His memories of the past rushed forward, vivid and unmistakable.

"Thor... Thor!"

Hawkeye muttered, his voice laced with awe. "So... he's regained his strength!"
