Chapter 8: Late Night Visitor
Lilian gloomed, regretting leaving Tylia alone with them. Fortunately, Tylia's condition has been stabilised. Lilian would have blamed herself if the situation had been far from it.
"Doesn't he purposely bring that woman?" Clara, who assisted the doctor treated Cristina's wound, cursed inwardly. She felt sorry for Tylia.
They waited outside of Tylia's room when Chirs and Christina returned. Tylia's family and friends disapproved of their presence.
Suddenly, their attention shifted to hurried footsteps. Logan was coming from Elara's room, which was not far from there. He barely contained his anger and grabbed Chris's collar. Cristina, frightened, took a step back.
"How dare you bring her here again! Was Tylia having nothing for you now?" Chris appeared calm despite being grabbed. He believed Logan deliberately blamed Cristina.
"Tylia is still my fiancée, and Cristina has done nothing to her!" Logan snapped with Chris's response, shoving him to the ground.
Logan growled, "You better leave!"
"Hey, here is a hospital. Show your respect," Mathias, having only just walked in, attempted to shatter the heavy tension in the air.
Tucking in the midst of it all, Lilian and Mark firmly restrained Logan, urging him to back off. Lilian exhaled with a deep, weary sigh while Mathias lent Chris a hand, pulling him upright.
He patted his back reassuringly and said, "You should listen to Logan and come back tomorrow."
"Wait, I want to have a word with you─ alone," Lilian said, asking Chris to follow her to the end of the corridor. After a short conversation, Chris left with Cristina.
That night, Chris stood by the window. He looked outside, but his mind were distracted. He smoked as he asked Cristina what had happened after he had left.
Cristina pretended to be guilty, saying, "After you left, she asked me all sorts of questions about the news that has been spreading."
Then, he asked again, "What did she ask?"
Slowly Cristina answered him. She said, "She asked why I was there with you. Because of me, both of you barely spent time together. She wished to be alone with you and… I was a thorn in your relationship. Also…about the rumours, she asked why I was doing that thing with you, and I intentionally spread that photo─ she said I'll take you away from her."
Cristina successfully made a defective speech and was disappointed because Chris had questioned her.
Cristina sobbed as she continued, "And… she told me to stay away from you. I said it was impossible, which angered her. I told her to calm down, I wanted to explain, but she ignored me. She let herself consumed by her emotions, making the situation worse."
"Why do I feel like that was not Tylia?" Chris mumbled and frowned, which made Cristina sob uncontrollably.
She wiped tears from her cheek. "Yes, I also couldn't believe either! But you must know. People deeply in love will become aggressive in protecting their rights because they are desperate. So does Tylia. I don't blame her, as I will also do the same."
Those words left Chris speechless.
She added, "If I hadn't opposed Tylia's request, this situation wouldn't have turned bad. I should distance myself from you. And Tylia will recover quickly. I also don't want to be the third wheel. It ruins my reputation."
Chris sighed, rubbing his temple. After they had met and he explained, he thought it would ease the situation. But it became opposite.
He didn't know what pressured him the most. He was responsible for Cristina after Robert's death, but Tylia was his fiancée.
"As my promise to Robert, you will stay. I will talk to Tylia. You don't need to worry."
Chris was positive that Tylia would listen to him. He needed to persuade Tylia to accept Cristina as part of their relationship.
"Just rest," he said. Chris open the door and stepped out, head towards his room leaving Cristina alone. Soon enough, a series of laughter echoed.
"Very well, Cristina. The Best Actress award this year belongs to you. I guess a few days more should be enough for practicing," Cristina chuckled while patting her chest. Proud of her temporary achievement.
.....
"I've told you before! Since the day you brought that woman back, a series of unfortunate things kept happening," Aela snapped, clenching the phone tightly.
"Mom, please understand. She had no intention of making things worse. Cristina was the victim," Chris tried to explain to his mother.
"What victim? I barely recognised my son now. Are you blind, Chris?"
"Mom, please. Don't s─"
"Send Cristina back to Bay Leaf City tomorrow. I don't want the third wheel to ruin your Valentine's Day." Her voice was sharp and cutting.
Chris gave up and agreed. "I will. Just don't blame Cristina, okay? I promised to send her back and I will stay with Tylia until Valentine's Day."
Chris was trapped in such a situation. When Aela was involved, he could barely say anything.
.....
When Cristina and Tylia were alone in the room, Theo happened to pass by. He heard their argument until it was over and understood the situation.
Afterwards, he needed to leave as he was rushed somewhere else—only texting Logan to watch over the girl, who was with her niece at that time.
He only managed to come back at night. Usually, no one was allowed to enter the private suite at the upper level of the hospital.
Luckily, the security guard was familiar with him and let him in. As he arrived at her room, he knocked on the door. But no one answered. He gently pushed the door open step in slowly.
He noticed that Tylia was alone and drifted into a deep sleep. Theo observed Tylia, who looked sunken, unlike yesterday when she was a whole spirit with her warm smile.
"Poor girl, you are facing hardship. How could you endure a fiancée like that?" he sighed.
Placing the gifts he had brought on the table, and he sat beside the bed. His eyes caught an elegant bend on Tylia's finger. He sensed something strange about it.
He stood up and took a piece of tissue nearby to remove the bend from her finger before securing it into a sealed plastic bag.
Theo wiped Tylia's finger clean before settling back into the seat. A deep exhale left his mouth as something disturbing him.
Theo didn't wait long before he left. Just as the door pushed open and Theo stepped out, he bumped into Lilian, who had arrived outside the room.
Although Lilian was surprised by Theo, who visited her daughter at night when no one was around, she still greeted him and asked politely, "Oh, hello. May I know who this is?"
Theo nodded and said, "Hello, I'm Theodore Knight."
To avoid misunderstanding, he showed Lilian his ID card.
"Dr Theodore Knight, Dean (Med.)." Her mouth was slightly agape as she read silently. He was young but already a high-ranking doctor, which made Lilian speechless—no wonder he was permitted to enter the hospital's private area after visiting hours ended.
"I'm Tylia's mother. Thank you for visiting my daughter," Lilian was grateful. Such an honoured man came visited her daughter.
"Please forgive me for showing up at such an hour with no one present. I rushed to go back to another city tonight. Send my regards to Tylia," he politely said and departed.
Lilian waited outside until Theo was gone from her view. Then, she turned and gently opened the door. By the time she entered, an appealing scent had attracted her attention.
Lilian noticed a bag of potpourri and an arm-size crochet bunny on the table. She smiled, and her heart felt warm.
During her younger years, Lilian served as a medical scientist. She could immediately identify the scent of potpourri.
Theo crafted this special potpourri using only the rarest herb leaves sourced from the deepest parts of the forest.
The delightful fragrance of this potpourri has the potential to soothe Tylia's anxiety and eliminate any negative emotions she might be feeling.
