"That's an Arasaka military hovercraft, Ethan. It's full of Arasaka operatives—do you really think you can handle them?"
V's voice carried a mix of skepticism and urgency as she shot a glance toward the backseat.
But when she turned—
Ethan was gone.
Her eyes widened in confusion.
And then—
A second later, he was already on the roof of the Rattlesnake.
Standing tall, perfectly balanced, he raised his right hand.
A faint glow ignited at his palm—energy surging, condensing—preparing to unleash a burning blast that would erase the Arasaka hovercraft from existence.
Ethan hadn't wanted to pick a fight with Arasaka.
Not now.
Not yet.
But they had forced his hand.
The hovercraft's comms crackled with hurried voices.
"What the hell?! There was no one on that car roof a second ago!"
"Forget it. Restrain him first, figure it out later!"
Inside the hovering Arasaka vehicle, a netrunner in a sleek cyberdeck suit leaned forward, plugging into the interface.
Her fingers danced over the virtual console, and within moments, she locked onto Ethan's neural chip.
"Initiating system reset. Full cybernetic shutdown in three… two… one…"
If the reset worked, Ethan would be completely paralyzed.
Every cybernetic enhancement would shut down. His muscles would lock. His body would collapse.
The netrunner smirked.
She saw the confirmation notice in her HUD.
The reset was successful.
For a brief moment, the Arasaka team relaxed.
Then—
Fire erupted.
A miniature incineration blast detonated from Ethan's palm, engulfing the entire hovercraft in flames.
The explosion ripped through the air, tearing apart the vehicle's armored frame, turning millions of dollars of corporate tech into a fiery wreck.
Shards of metal and burning debris rained onto the road.
In seconds—the hovercraft was gone.
V's mouth fell open.
"What… the… fuck…"
Jack just grinned.
The netrunner—who had believed she had disabled Ethan—had been completely deceived.
She saw false confirmation signs in her neural interface.
But in reality?
Her attack had done absolutely nothing.
Ever since Ethan had taken on the persona of Genos, his resistance to cyber-attacks had increased exponentially.
Even if someone on the level of Lucy herself had tried, they wouldn't have been able to override his systems.
The only thing Ethan had felt during the intrusion was a faint presence—hostile, prying, observing.
But it hadn't slowed him down.
It hadn't stopped him.
And now, the Arasaka hovercraft was nothing but wreckage.
Ethan exhaled, turning to head back to the vehicle.
And then—
From the inferno of the hovercraft's remains, a figure emerged.
A blur of movement—unnatural, inhuman.
And in the next instant—
A man landed directly in front of the speeding Rattlesnake, his arms outstretched.
He caught the vehicle.
V barely had time to react before she felt the sickening jolt of the car coming to an abrupt, unnatural halt.
The Rattlesnake—a full-sized, high-powered off-road vehicle—had been stopped with bare hands.
The tires skidded, the suspension groaned, but the car didn't move an inch further.
Ethan narrowed his eyes.
He had expected some resistance.
But not this.
And then—he saw the face of the man standing before him.
A warrior clad in Arasaka's elite cyber-ninja armor.
A man Ethan instantly recognized.
Oda Sando—Arasaka Hanako's personal bodyguard.
A cybernetic ninja trained under Takemura Goro.
A cold-blooded, near-emotionless assassin.
And now—an obstacle standing in Ethan's way.
Ethan hadn't expected Oda Sando to appear here of all places.
The man was practically surgically attached to Hanako Arasaka—her personal specter, her unwavering sword, her living shield. Wherever she went, he followed.
So why the hell was he standing in front of them in the middle of the Badlands?
A sudden realization sent a cold spike of dread through Ethan's mind.
"Wait… was Hanako inside that hovercraft I just destroyed?!"
If that was the case, then Ethan had just made the biggest mistake of his life.
Blowing up an Arasaka hovercraft was already a death sentence.
But killing Hanako Arasaka?
That wasn't just suicide. That was a war declaration against the most powerful megacorporation on the planet.
Arasaka wouldn't stop hunting him.
Not today.
Not tomorrow.
Not ever.
But as Ethan took a deep breath, forcing himself to think clearly, he began to doubt it.
No. That didn't make sense.
Hanako Arasaka wasn't reckless. She wouldn't step foot in a place like this alone with only Oda as protection.
If she really had been inside that hovercraft, there would've been at least an entire squadron of Arasaka elite operatives.
Hell, when she traveled from Tokyo to Night City, Arasaka had sent a full aircraft carrier just to escort her.
Someone like Hanako didn't just die in a random hovercraft explosion in the middle of the Badlands.
No. There was only one real possibility.
Oda wasn't Hanako's personal bodyguard yet.
Maybe he was still earning his rank.
Maybe he was still trying to prove himself.
Or maybe—this timeline was different.
But in the end, it didn't matter.
Oda was here.
And he was furious.
The cyber-ninja's cold, predatory gaze swept over them, his piercing eyes locking onto Ethan.
"You filthy smugglers…"
Oda's voice was sharp, his pure, native Japanese accent cutting through the dry desert air like a blade.
"This wasteland shall be your grave."
Then—
Shhk-CHNK!
From his forearms, two gleaming mantis blades snapped forward.
They weren't just regular mantis blades.
These were heat-infused.
Blazing hot.
The moment they deployed, the air around Oda visibly distorted from the sheer heat radiation.
It was like looking at the horizon during a heatwave—except this wasn't the sun.
This was a weapon.
This wasn't the game's version of mantis blades.
This was real.
And in a real cyberpunk world, mantis blades didn't just cut.
They burned.
They disintegrated.
They turned flesh, metal, and bone into ash.
If those blades hit the Rattlesnake, the car wouldn't just get sliced in half.
It would be reduced to slag.
Standing atop the vehicle, Ethan felt it.
With his life-sensing ability, he could practically see the lethal energy radiating off Oda.
The intensity of his presence was like standing at the edge of a raging inferno.
Oda wasn't just strong.
He was the strongest enemy Ethan had encountered so far.
And the cyber-ninja wasn't hesitating.
The moment those blades deployed—
He moved.
Fast.
Unbelievably fast.
One second, he was standing in front of the Rattlesnake.
The next—
He was gone.
A blur of movement.
A gust of displaced air.
Then—
A flash of searing red-hot steel.
Oda struck.
His mantis blade—superheated, vibrating at an inhuman frequency—stabbed forward at speeds beyond human perception.
Directly at Ethan.
