"You must be V, right? Are you alright? That old bastard didn't hurt you, did he?"

Ethan looked at V's tense expression, his face showing a hint of concern.

"I'm fine. And more importantly… the cargo's fine too. My car broke down, so I stopped here to find a repair shop, but that greasy old soldier caught onto me."

V holstered her gun and stood up, running a hand through her smooth red hair.

Looking at the woman before him—strong and confident, yet carrying an undeniable charm—Ethan felt a spark of admiration.

Even after just meeting her, he could already sense the aura she radiated.

No wonder V was the protagonist in the game.

"You really saved my ass back there. I owe you one… You're Jack, right?"

V stepped closer, her gaze curious yet cautious as she studied the cybernetic augmentations on Ethan's body.

"No, I'm Ethan. Jack's still waiting for us… It's getting late. We should hurry before he starts getting impatient."

V nodded before walking over to her Rattlesnake off-road vehicle.

Lifting the hood, she frowned at the chaotic mess of wires inside.

"I'll have to bypass the coupling and rig a direct ignition line."

After making the necessary adjustments, she hopped into the driver's seat and motioned for Ethan to get in.

"This should do it. It won't last long, but as long as it gets us to Night City, that's all that matters."

V's confidence was clear—she had absolute faith in her repair skills.

After a few attempts, the engine finally roared to life. The sound seemed to ease the tension in V's expression, and for the first time, a genuine smile appeared on her lips.

"Let's hope we get lucky and make it to Night City without any more trouble," she said, her confidence unwavering.

As they drove off, the two continued chatting. By the time the sun was beginning to set, they finally arrived at the farmhouse where Jack was waiting.

"Damn, what took you guys so long? Were you getting a spa treatment or something? The sun's about to set!"

Jack, who had been lounging at the door, grumbled in frustration.

But the moment he caught sight of V's striking features, his complaints vanished instantly.

With a goofy grin, he stepped forward and greeted her warmly.

"Name's Jack. Born and raised in Night City—Haywood runs through my veins. Nice to meet you, Nomad girl."

Leaning casually against the car window, Jack spoke with obvious pride.

"Nice to meet you, Jack… From the way you talk, Night City must really mean a lot to you," V responded.

"I've never been to Night City before. I don't know what it holds for me or what it even means to me yet."

Having only recently left her Nomad family, V still felt lost. Right now, all she was looking for was a place to call home.

"It's not just Night City—it's Haywood. There, everyone's like family. Brothers, sisters, or long-lost cousins."

Jack smiled as he spoke, his words filled with a sense of belonging.

V didn't yet understand what Haywood truly meant, nor did she know the intricate dynamics of Night City.

But she could feel something in Jack's words—something familiar.

"I think I get it now. Haywood is like the Nomad families—a place that feels like home."

"If that's the case, I guess I could barely call myself a Haywood native too," V said with a self-deprecating chuckle, her tone betraying a hint of longing for her family.

But in the next moment, her gaze hardened with determination.

"Then we're gonna get along just fine," Jack grinned, extending his left hand.

V smiled back and shook his hand firmly.

Watching the two hit it off so naturally, Ethan couldn't help but marvel at their chemistry. They truly were the perfect duo, just like in the game.

However, in Cyberpunk 2077, Jack always treated V like a brother—a lifelong friend and comrade-in-arms—without any hint of romantic interest. Maybe it was because V's personality was too strong-willed for that.

After some casual banter, Ethan reminded them that it was getting late and they should hurry to Night City.

Without further delay, the three of them set off toward the city.

As they neared the border checkpoint, Jack, seated in the front passenger seat, started to fidget, his nerves getting the better of him.

"Relax. I've got all the clearance papers and insurance right here. We shouldn't have any problems," V reassured him with a confident smile, easily picking up on his unease.

But Ethan, sitting in the back seat, wasn't so optimistic.

He had no way of predicting how the events would unfold. After all, this wasn't just a game—it was a real cyberpunk world, and deviations from the original storyline were inevitable.

"I'll handle the talking. You just focus on driving," V said coolly, exuding confidence.

Before long, they arrived at the checkpoint, where their vehicle was immediately stopped.

In an instant, machine gun turrets and border security officers turned their weapons toward them.

However, they didn't open fire—just aimed cautiously.

"Remain inside your vehicle. Routine security inspection will commence shortly," a border guard said coldly from the front of the car.

Jack jittered anxiously, shaking his leg. "I have a bad feeling about this…"

"Relax. It's just a standard check. Nothing to worry about," V said casually, as if she'd done this a hundred times before.

A moment later, a scanning beam swept over the vehicle, emitting a faint blue glow as it analyzed both the car and its passengers.

Everything seemed fine.

But just as they thought they were in the clear, an ear-piercing alarm blared throughout the checkpoint.

"Detected: Unregistered high-energy power source within an unidentified cybernetic unit. Possible foreign terrorist threat. Immediate neutralization required!"

The robotic female AI voice repeated the warning over the wailing sirens.
