Cultivation System In Endless World

Chapter 5: Evan’s First Step

Sitting on his bed with his eyes closed, his face displayed a myriad of emotions—wonder... excitement... anticipation... Yet, after a few moments of remaining in that same position, his mind suddenly recalled crucial information about cultivation.

The most fundamental aspect of cultivation was... calmness and self-control. As these thoughts resurfaced, he slowly opened his eyes, a lingering smile of excitement still gracing his lips. However, he soon took a deep breath in and exhaled, attempting to soothe his emotions. He knew that allowing excitement to cloud his mind could hinder his progress, and so, he focused on regaining control over himself.

As he gazed forward, inhaling and exhaling at a steady, rhythmic pace, his chest rose and fell in harmony. The wild fire of emotions that had ignited within him gradually began to subside. Finally, he parted his lips and spoke softly:

"Alright... I must remain calm... After all, I have no idea what might happen."

His voice was barely above a whisper, yet it carried a firm resolve. His expression became composed, his eyes still holding traces of determination and excitement that slowly dimmed as he continued to breathe steadily. He was about to embark on a journey that could change his entire existence—he needed to be ready.

For what seemed like an eternity, he remained in that tranquil state. Though time passed, he was patient—serene—focused. Then, at last, he closed his eyes once more.

Darkness enveloped him. He saw nothing. He felt nothing. His mind was still, controlled, and devoted solely to one purpose—sensing the energy of Qi, the life force that sustained all existence.

With his eyes shut, he sought out the presence of Qi. He knew this could take time—after all, the knowledge he had received from the system contained only the most basic understanding of cultivation. He was well aware that for the average person, sensing the first spark of Qi could take up to ten hours. Yet, despite this fact, he was convinced that he would succeed in less than thirty minutes.

He focused, deeper than he ever had before. Never in his life had he concentrated so intently, so completely. This moment held the potential to redefine his existence—to allow him to embark on a journey, to truly experience and cherish this new life he had been given.

Time lost all meaning. He had no way of knowing how long he had been in this state. Minutes? Hours? It didn't matter. Then—suddenly—something appeared before his closed eyes.

A flicker of light.

At the instant he perceived it, his entire concentration honed in on that single, radiant spark. That tiny speck of light, which had the power to transform the life of any mere mortal.

His mind, already conditioned by the system's teachings, knew exactly what to do. He followed the steps of cultivation precisely as instructed. What he didn't realize, however, was that the technique he had received was one of the most common—but still effective—methods of cultivation.

Following the method, he focused entirely on the tiny spark of Qi. In his mind, he visualized drawing it toward him—grasping it. The image became clearer and clearer, and slowly, ever so slowly, the spark began to drift toward him.

Closer... and closer...

At a distance of two meters, its movement suddenly accelerated. Within moments, it was mere centimeters from his body. Then, as it finally made contact—

A surge of warmth spread through him.

A warmth unlike anything he had ever felt before—not just simple heat, but a deep, soothing relaxation, a profound comfort that touched every fiber of his being. Yet, just as quickly as it arrived, the warmth vanished, leaving behind only a lingering sense of fulfillment and something else—an unshakable hunger for more.

His eyes snapped open, confusion flashing across his face.

"I did it... I finally sensed and absorbed Qi! Yes! Hahahaha!"

His joyous exclamation, however, was only voiced in his mind. Yet, after just a moment, his elation faded, and he whispered to himself:

"Calm down... This is not the time for celebration."

With those words, he resumed his rhythmic breathing, inhaling and exhaling steadily. He did this for several moments before closing his eyes once more, returning to his cultivation.

This time, sensing Qi came far more easily. The system's knowledge had informed him that after absorbing the first spark of Qi, detecting subsequent sparks would become a hundred times simpler. Sure enough, as soon as he shut his eyes, two new sparks of Qi illuminated the darkness within his mind.

His focus immediately locked onto them, and he repeated the process—drawing them in, one after another.

Again and again, he absorbed the sparks, each time feeling a brief, gentle warmth before it dissipated. Yet, with each absorption, he sensed something else—something difficult to describe, an indescribable sensation that resonated within him.

More sparks appeared, one after another. Though they seemed to manifest continuously, their intervals remained consistent. Sometimes they came in pairs, and occasionally, even in groups of three.

He cultivated with unwavering focus, his entire being immersed in the process. He no longer felt the bed beneath him, nor the space around him. Not even his own body. With each absorbed spark, his mind grew sharper, his concentration more profound.

One spark after another—Evan cultivated tirelessly, absorbing them all. An hour passed since the first spark entered his body. And then, he felt it.

An unfamiliar sensation.

It was as if he was full—but not quite. He still had the capacity to continue cultivating, but alongside that feeling, he also noticed something else—mental fatigue. The strain of prolonged focus was beginning to take its toll.

"I have to break through... I can't stop now."

His determination flared once more. Ignoring his exhaustion, he resumed cultivation, drawing in more and more Qi.

Minute by minute, he continued. Until finally—ninety minutes had passed since he first sensed Qi.

He needed only one last spark.

Then, suddenly—it appeared. The final spark of Qi required for him to reach the first realm of cultivation: Energy Grading.

Using the last remnants of his strength, he willed it toward him. It drifted closer... and closer...

Ten centimeters away... Five centimeters...

His vision darkened. His consciousness wavered.

And then—

The final spark surged into his body.

The overwhelming mental exhaustion hit a breaking point. His mind shut down. He lost consciousness.

Yet, even as he slipped into unconsciousness, his body underwent changes. A soothing warmth spread through his form—comforting, refining, transforming.

And then—

[Ding!...]

[Detected that host has broken through to the first realm of cultivation!]

[Ding!...]

[System has met conditions for reactivation!]

[Ding!...]

[System is reactivated!]

[Ding!...]

[Welcome, Host!]

As these events unfolded beyond his control, Evan's body, no longer seated upright, slumped onto the bed. He lay there, not in meditation, but in deep, exhausted sleep, his mind finally surrendering to well-earned rest.

Minutes passed... Suddenly, the door to his room creaked as it slowly began to open. Through the widening gap, the graceful figure of a woman became visible—a woman who was not just anyone, but the mother of the body in which Evan now resided.

She parted her lips to speak, her voice as soft as a melody. "My dear—"

But the words died in her throat the moment her gaze fell upon her child, lying motionless on the bed.

Terror instantly clouded her eyes. In the blink of an eye, she vanished from the doorway, reappearing beside his bed as if by instinct. Her breath caught in her throat, her entire being trembling with fear. Terror. Worry. A flood of emotions surged through her—the same emotions she had felt the first time her child collapsed, the same gut-wrenching fear that had gripped her when she thought she had lost him forever.

For a brief moment, deep within her heart, she felt as though that nightmare had come true once again.

"What's happening?! Why is he unconscious?!" The panicked thoughts raced through her mind as she stood frozen over her child's still form. Possibilities flooded her consciousness, her heart bracing for the worst. And yet, she knew—she could never truly accept the worst.

Snapping out of her momentary paralysis, she reached forward, pressing a trembling hand against his chest. The warmth of his body reassured her, but it wasn't enough—she had to know.

Closing her eyes, she let a stream of Qi flow from her palm, scanning his body with precision. A moment passed. Then another.

"...Good... He's alright..."

Her voice was barely above a whisper, yet the relief in it was unmistakable. The terror that had consumed her gaze slowly shifted into deep concern. Withdrawing her hand from his chest, she gently cupped his cheek, her fingers tracing his face with a mother's tenderness.

Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, but this time, they did not fall.

After a moment, she took a deep breath, pulling herself together. Wiping at the corners of her eyes, she reached down and lifted her son into her arms. Carefully, she adjusted the blankets, ensuring he was properly covered before gently laying him back down.

For a long moment, she simply stood there, watching over him, as if afraid he might vanish if she looked away. Then, slowly, she leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to his forehead.

"Sweet dreams, my love," she murmured, her voice an angelic whisper—one filled with warmth, yet laced with the unmistakable worry of a mother.

Hi! I hope you enjoyed the chapter... and I'm really sorry for not sending anything recently, even though this book has no more than four chapters. I truly apologize... The explanation can be found in my first book.

That's all for now... Oh, and one more thing—I'm not sure if I'll have time to write a chapter for the first book, so if it doesn't come out today, I'm really sorry!]
