Chapter 136: Chapter 136: The Garden of Sinners Premiere (Part 10)
Even after witnessing the crime scene with his own eyes, Kokutou Mikiya still refused to believe that Ryougi Shiki was the killer. Not only did he defend her in front of his uncle, but he also promised Shiki herself that he would always trust her.
This portion of the plot quickly sparked heated discussions among viewers. Everyone was astonished by Kokutou Mikiya's unwavering faith.
After all, the majority of the audience had already concluded that Ryougi Shiki was the mastermind behind the murders. Most people could not accept a protagonist who seemed to have committed such heinous crimes.
"Is this what they mean by 'love is blind'? Kokutou Mikiya's behavior is just too foolish!"
"Exactly, Ryougi Shiki clearly looks like the killer. Why would he still believe in her?"
"Isn't this technically abetting? Under the Empire's laws, he'd be looking at a few years in prison for sure!"
"This is absurd. Why be so stubborn for a girl you like?"
"If it were me, I'd have stayed far away from someone like her."
These murmurs of discontent echoed across all groups of viewers. Whether ordinary citizens or students of the Imperial Mage Academy, most people were dissatisfied with Kokutou Mikiya's choices. However, there were still some who admired his dedication.

In the Edward Tavern, Winry commented thoughtfully as she watched the movie:
"I think Kokutou Mikiya has his reasons for trusting Shiki. After all, if one day, everyone thought Lord Durin had done something bad and all evidence pointed to him, I would still choose to believe in you!"
Hearing this, Edward responded calmly:
"That would be disrespectful to objective truth, Winry. If someone commits a crime, they should face the consequences. No one is infallible."
Despite Edward's rather blunt remark, which left others exchanging awkward glances, Winry simply smiled and shook her head.
"Even so, I would still believe in you."
As the atmosphere grew sentimental between the master and his servant, Aya interjected energetically, waving her arms:
"Stop it, you two! Don't interrupt my movie-watching experience!"
At this, Zart grabbed Aya by the collar and yelled:
"Get lost! You're the one interrupting here!"
"Ahhh! Zart, you jerk!"
With the two seemingly about to bicker again, Helena and Daphne quickly stepped in to separate them. Meanwhile, the movie continued to unfold.
In the days that followed, Kokutou Mikiya continued his nightly vigils outside Ryougi Shiki's home. He would stay in the forest until midnight, keeping an unwavering watch on the mansion's entrance.
This persistence greatly annoyed Shiki. Every time she saw the boy smiling as he left at dawn, her frustration only grew.
"—Such a happy fool," she muttered irritably, shutting her window. "I'm fine being alone, but you insist on interfering, Kokutou."
The more normal and persistent Kokutou appeared, the more Shiki became aware of the abnormalities within herself. She wasn't a normal person, and she could never be one.
Thus, she made up her mind to shatter this illusion of happiness that was tormenting her.
The next day after school, Ryougi Shiki took the initiative to summon Kokutou Mikiya to the classroom.
"I didn't expect you to call for me. Does this mean you're no longer ignoring me?" Kokutou remarked with a slight smile.
Shiki replied in a muddled tone:
"It's because I can't hold back anymore that I called you here.
"Even though you claim I'm not the killer..."
"The sad truth is, I am the killer. You've seen the crime scenes yourself—why didn't you turn me in?"
Despite her barrage of questions, Kokutou remained steadfast:
"What's there to turn in? You didn't do it."
"What if I told you I did?"
"You once said that only half of what you say should be taken seriously. Besides, I believe you're not capable of something like that."
Hearing his resolute conviction, Shiki's face twisted in anger as she demanded:
"—What do you mean by 'believe'?"
"What do you even know about me?"
"What about me makes you trust me so much?"
Caught off guard by her sharp retort, Kokutou gave a lonely smile.
"I don't have any evidence, but I think I'll always believe in you... Hmm, probably because I like you and want to trust you."
"..."
His confession hung in the air, plunging the room into silence. Ryougi Shiki looked as if she had taken a blow, her shoulders slumping in defeat.
After a long pause, she made up her mind and began to walk away, speaking without looking back:
"—You're an idiot."
"Yeah, I get that a lot."
"Are you planning to keep watching my house tonight?"
"Uh...?"
Seemingly caught off guard that his surveillance had been noticed, Kokutou's expression flickered with surprise.
But Shiki cut in with a commanding tone:
"Answer me!"
"I don't know what you're talking about, but if I feel like it, I might go."
And so, the final night began.
As the film's tone grew increasingly tense and unsettling, the audience collectively held their breath. Everyone realized that this night would bring a decisive conclusion to the escalating conflict between the two characters.
"Is this movie told in reverse order? If so, then the future scene of them overlooking the city means everything turns out fine, right?!"
"Y-Yeah, probably?"
"Why do I feel so anxious?"
"Same here. I feel like something bad is going to happen to Kokutou."
"Why is Shiki so unwilling to accept Kokutou? If a guy this devoted chased after me, I'd have fallen for him ages ago."
"And that's why you're not the protagonist."
"!!!"
Amidst the various debates, whether in the Edward Tavern, the Imperial Mage Academy, the Alchemy Tower's summit with the Arch Mage, or the Empire's knights in the capital, all viewers held their breath, eagerly awaiting the story's climax.
Everyone could sense that the next part of the tale would bring a significant turning point.
