Crazy Detective: I Have The System To Change The World.

Chapter 16: Chapter 16

At that moment Kai's just smiled, and his cheek twitched as he processed the woman's words. Without hesitation, he turned to the chief.

"I'll go,"

he said firmly, his voice cutting through the tension in the room.

"Kai, wait—"

the chief started, but before he could finish, Kai was already out the door, moving with purpose toward the armory.

Harris followed close behind, his boots pounding the floor as he shouted after him.

"Kai! Stop! You can't just do this. You're not even on the force anymore!"

Kai didn't slow down. He reached the weapons locker, his movements deliberate and focused. Swinging the door open, he grabbed a bulletproof vest and strapped it on with practiced ease. It felt weightless now, almost as if he's putting on clothes.

Next, he reached for a communication device, securing it to his ear before loading his chosen firearm.

"Kai!" the chief barked again, finally catching up. He grabbed Kai's shoulder and turned him around.

"You're not authorized for this. You're not even supposed to be here! You can't just suit up and storm into a live situation like this. It's not your job anymore, leave it for the rest department."

Kai stared at him, his expression calm but determined.

"Chief, there's no time to waste. Your men are out there, and their lives are on the line. Are you really going to stand here and argue while they're waiting for backup? Do you care about your men or not?"

The chief froze, the weight of Kai's words hanging in the air. The silence stretched for a beat, filled only by the distant hum of the station's activity. Kai adjusted the vest one final time and moved past Harris without waiting for a response.

At that moment The chief's hand dropped to his side, his shoulders slumping in reluctant defeat. "Fine," he muttered, more to himself than to Kai.

"But this doesn't mean you're back on the force."

Kai gave a small nod, not wasting time on a response. His focus was already elsewhere. Whatever the chief thought, it didn't matter now. Lives were at stake.

He headed straight to the parking lot, sliding into one of the police cars.

The engine roared to life as he gripped the wheel, his hands steady. The system-enhanced driving skill surged in his mind, instincts sharper and his movements more precise than ever before.

The city blurred past him as he wove through traffic with ease, arriving at the scene in record time. The chaos unfolded before him—a diamond jewelry store under siege, gunfire ringing out in sharp, deafening bursts.

Kai scanned the situation quickly. The robbers, seven in total, were positioned strategically behind cover, each armed with high-powered rifles. Their movements were coordinated, methodical, as they kept the three outnumbered police officers pinned down.

The officers were clearly outgunned, their sidearms no match for the assault rifles. One officer crouched behind a patrol car, radioing for backup while the other two exchanged fire, their faces grim and determined but visibly strained.

Kai stepped out of the car, his eyes narrowing as he sized up the scene. "Seven against three? No wonder they're struggling, he thought. But they haven't seen me yet. That's their first mistake."

Kai stepped out of the car, his movements deliberate and unhurried. Gunfire cracked through the air, but he didn't flinch. Instead, he strode boldly toward the chaos, his presence cutting through the noise like a blade.

The three officers crouched behind their patrol car, the battered vehicle barely holding up under the hail of bullets.

Sweat still dripping down their faces as they reloaded their weapons, their breaths coming in short, panicked gasps.

"Stay down!"

one officer barked to the others, his voice trembling as he peeked out to return fire. The situation was dire, and they all knew it.

Then they saw him.

Kai moved through the chaos, his figure unbothered by the barrage of gunfire.

At first, they thought their eyes were playing tricks on them. The officer closest to the edge lowered his weapon slightly, his brow furrowing in disbelief.

"Is that—" he started, his voice trailing off.

The second officer blinked hard, shaking his head.

"No way. No damn way. Kai's dead. We all know that. We saw his name come off the board."

The third officer, a rookie, was frozen, his face pale.

"If he's dead... then what the hell are we looking at? Is that his ghost? Did he come to take us with him?"

The three men stared in stunned silence as Kai approached, his expression calm, unbothered by their reactions or the bullets flying around them. He stopped just short of their cover, glancing down at them with an air of quiet authority.

"Are you just going to sit there?" Kai asked, his voice steady.

At that moment Kai's voice broke through the officers' stunned silence, firm and unwavering. "Don't worry,"

he said, his tone carrying a confidence that seemed almost unreal in the chaos around them. "I'm your backup."

Before any of them could respond, Kai stepped out from behind the patrol car, his movements calm and deliberate.

The officers exchanged bewildered glances, their disbelief momentarily overtaken by the sheer audacity of what they were witnessing.

"Kai! Get back here!"

one of them shouted, but his voice faltered as Kai ignored him and continued forward, heading directly toward the robbers' position.

The robbers noticed him almost immediately, their guns swiveling to target the lone figure walking toward them.

One of them, a man with a scar running down his cheek, leaned out slightly from his cover, his rifle raising to fire.

However Kai didn't hesitate. In one fluid motion, he drew his weapon and fired.

The robber's scream rang out as the bullet hit his shoulder, forcing him to drop his gun and collapse behind the barricade.

Seeing what just happened the other robbers froze, stunned by the speed and precision of the shot.

Without breaking stride, Kai aimed and fired again. Another robber fell, clutching his leg as his weapon clattered to the ground.

The remaining three hesitated, fear creeping into their expressions as they realized they were being systematically taken down.

Kai's shots were calculated, each one hitting a hand or leg, disarming and incapacitating without killing. The air was filled with shouts of pain and confusion as five of the seven robbers lay writhing on the ground, their weapons scattered.

The remaining two exchanged a panicked glance.

"Screw this!"

One of them shouted, putting his gun on his side as he turned to run. The other followed suit, both of them bolting down the street as fast as their legs could carry them.
