Chapter 322: Long Time No See, My Lord
"Bang—"
Nokkneri raised her hand and released a heart-shaped magical wave, pushing back Mash, who had attempted to strike her with her shield. She quickly said,
"Wait! Stop! Why is Caldea attacking me? Did something go wrong?"
"Huh?" Mash, still preparing to charge with her giant shield, was momentarily stunned. "Go wrong?"
Furrowing her brows, Mash paused her attack. Being from Caldea, an organization that always aimed to unite all possible forces, hearing such words from the opposite side made her hesitant. She cautiously asked,
"But... I heard that you are the leader of the Eastern Army?"
"Uh…" Nokkneri froze for a moment. "Eastern Army... oh!"
Remembering what Finn had mentioned earlier about attacking the Western Army's base, Nokkneri quickly understood:
"You are from the Western Army, right? So, you're calling Finn's troops the Eastern Army, are you?"
"I'm not sure if I can be considered the leader of the Eastern Army, but I am Finn's superior."
"Well, that clears it up," before Mash could respond, another voice came from behind her. A pink-haired woman in a red outfit rushed forward and immediately swung a punch at Nokkneri,
"Since we've identified the source of the problem, we should eliminate it at once!"
The woman arrived so quickly that Nokkneri didn't have time to raise her magic shield. She could only quickly raise her hands to block, and was then sent stumbling several meters backward by the woman's punch.
"I really—"
Shaking her sore hands, Nokkneri's anger flared.
"Fine! If you want to fight, then fight!"
Immediately, she turned and shouted,
"Finn! Get over here!"
"Yes!" Finn, who was still on the other side of the battlefield, jolted in surprise. He quickly smashed a nearby mech into scrap and turned toward Nokkneri,
"What does Your Majesty require?"
"I'll buff you, and you can go... Wait, why did our contract break?"
Nokkneri had intended to use a fire-based buff on Finn so he could deal with the unreasonable red-dressed woman. However, she noticed that, despite having had a contract with Finn before, he now seemed like someone who had never made a contract with her at all.
—Is it because the contract was reset due to crossing worlds?
Forget it, it's not important. Since it's been reset, I can just make the contract again.
Not dwelling on it further, Nokkneri decisively asked,
"Finn! Do you wish to serve as my left-wing general?"
"Huh? But didn't I and Dilumudo serve as your vanguard?" Finn hesitated.
"Stop talking. Just say yes!" Nokkneri glared at him.
Although she was only making a verbal contract for now, and it didn't really matter what position Finn took, Nokkneri was determined not to give him the vanguard role.
In her mind, that position had already been assigned to someone else.
Finn, although confused by Maeve's behavior, understood well enough that his current "Master" had more control over him than his original master. He had no choice but to raise his hands in surrender and say,
"Alright, I'm willing."
But just as he spoke, Finn suddenly noticed a change in his expression.
He realized that the binding contract between him and Maeve had suddenly been overwritten by something else.
—No, it wasn't broken; it was just... covered by a new contract?
This left Finn puzzled. However, before he could think further, he suddenly heard Maeve's command,
"Left-wing! Change formation to fire!"
At the moment her words fell, Finn noticed sparks of fire on his body and weapons. At the same time, he felt a surge of power flowing through him.
"Okay! All done! Finn, you've been strengthened! Go take them out!"
Though unsure about what just happened, Finn didn't have time to question it. Feeling Maeve's command still exerting its influence on him, he rushed forward to engage in a fierce battle with Mash and Nightingale.
As Finn joined the fight, Nokkneri quickly scanned the battlefield and noticed that Dilumudo was being suppressed on the other side, seemingly due to some injuries from earlier battles. The formidable Dilumudo was being overwhelmed by mere fodder soldiers.
Immediately, Nokkneri moved toward him and shouted,
"Dilumudo! Quick, tell me! Do you wish to become my right-wing general?"
"Huh?" Dilumudo was visibly stunned. However, after hearing Nokkneri's conversation with Finn, he didn't hesitate and immediately replied,
"I'm willing to serve as Your Majesty's right-wing general!"
"Good!" Nokkneri nodded. "Right-wing! Change formation to forest!"
Dilumudo felt a noticeable boost in his stamina recovery.
"Good!" Nokkneri continued, "Dilumudo! Go help Finn and eliminate the enemy's servants!"
"But, Your Majesty, if I leave, our troops here will be overwhelmed by the enemy." Dilumudo replied.
"What's the problem with that?" Nokkneri said carelessly, and then raised her arm, shouting,
"Soldiers present! Are you loyal to my army?!"
The soldiers responded with a thunderous roar,
"Yes!"
"Good!" Nokkneri swung her arm decisively, "All soldiers! Change formation to fire! Charge!"
With Finn and Dilumudo leading their Celtic soldiers, their combat strength was comparable to the Western Army led by Mash and Nightingale, only weakened by Dilumudo's prior injuries.
However, with Nokkneri's powerful group buff now in play, the Celtic soldiers, though still under Maeve's control, were no longer affected by it. Completely unaware of this, Nokkneri led the charge, initiating a counterattack against the Western Army.
In no time, the Western Army was pushed back, and with the buff from Nokkneri, Finn and Dilumudo quickly defeated and captured Mash and Nightingale.
But just as Finn was about to continue his pursuit into the enemy lines, aiming to capture Caldea's Master, a shield suddenly flew at him, crackling with red lightning.
Before it even reached him, Finn felt an immense pressure and quickly raised his spear to block. However, when his spear collided with the shield, he was sent staggering back several steps.
Just as Finn regained his balance, he saw the shield flying back to its original owner. A shadow swiftly moved through the crowd, catching the shield and, without letting Finn even glimpse their face, grabbed the orange-haired Master and disappeared into the chaos.
At this moment, Guinevere was equally confused.
Since Guinevere had been placed relatively close to Nokkneri by the system, he arrived on the battlefield early and was watching the chaotic situation when he fell into deep thought.
What's going on? Why did Nokkneri suddenly start fighting Caldea? And why is she mixed in with the Celtic forces?
Unlike Finn, who didn't recognize his own Master, Guinevere immediately spotted Nokkneri at the center of the fighting, commanding the Celtic forces against the Western Army.
Could it be that she no longer sees Caldea as worthwhile and plans to team up with her Grand Human History counterpart to take them down?
Wait, no, she can't be thinking of going full villain on us, right?
Perplexed, Guinevere quickly opened the system and used the team communication function to send Nokkneri a message.
[What's going on, sister? Why are you mixed up with Maeve's subordinates?]
He had only discovered this feature during the London singularity event. Since they were both part of the same team in the simulation, Guinevere could easily contact her.
Unfortunately, Nokkneri was too focused on buffing her soldiers to notice Guinevere's message.
Guinevere, however, interpreted this differently:
What's going on? Nokkneri must have her own reasons for this, right? Maybe she thinks it's better to eliminate Caldea altogether?
Just as Guinevere was lost in thought, he saw that, thanks to Nokkneri's buff, the Western Army quickly crumbled. Mash and Nightingale were captured, and even Fujimaru Ritsuka seemed to be on the brink of crisis.
With little time to think, Guinevere rushed in, rescued Fujimaru Ritsuka, and fled the battlefield.
But as soon as he pulled Fujimaru into his arms and was about to make his escape, Fujimaru quickly recognized his face,
"Guinevere-sama?"
"Yeah, it's me," Guinevere nodded slightly.
"The situation is complicated, so I can't fight right now. I'll take you out of here."
But as soon as he finished speaking and was about to speed up his retreat, Fujimaru asked,
"So, are you my Master?"
"Do you mean the Blood Lord? No, I'm not him. To be precise, I and he belong to two very different futures..."
As Guinevere quickly explained, he suddenly felt something wasn't quite right, but couldn't quite place why... Until he saw Fujimaru smile mischievously.
"I see, your true name is Guinevere, isn't it? And it seems like you and your Master share memories?"
"Huh?" Guinevere froze for a moment, then his expression changed. "Wait, how do you know the Blood Lord... Are you messing with me?"
Only then did he realize that, back when he was Jackel in London, his face should have been different, as he had been disguised as a local. It was only because the Fairy Kingdom's Blood Lord had possessed him. But he had never told Caldea about his true name.
"After all, Miss Artoria from the Fairy Kingdom is very close to the Blood Lord. I don't think she'd be the kind of person who would be indecisive..."
Fujimaru chuckled softly, slowly explaining,
"Since that's the case, your true name must be Guinevere, right?"
"And since you have the same records from London and are also called Guinevere... then you must be my Master."
With a playful wink, she added,
"It's been a long time, my Lord."
