Chapter 321: Huh? I'm Fighting Caldea?
The battle surrounding Nokkneri quickly escalated to a fever pitch.
If, at first, the two opposing sides in the war had been trying to preserve their lives while fighting, now they had reached the point where they were willing to charge forward at all costs, even if it meant sacrificing their lives.
The ordinary human soldiers, even though they had seen their bullets bounce off Nokkneri's body, still charged toward her, shooting bullets in dense barrages.
Not only that, Nokkneri soon discovered that, around these human soldiers, there were large robots armed with machine guns, spraying gunfire toward her. The bullets fired by these robots seemed to contain some form of magic, making them much stronger than the bullets fired by regular soldiers. Even Nokkneri herself would suffer some injury if she took a direct hit.
However, this wasn't a problem. Nokkneri quickly assessed the strength of these robots and found them to be on par with low-level fairies. If she endured a few bullets, she could easily destroy them...
But the situation now was that the battle was beyond Nokkneri's control.
Soldiers wielding melee weapons, standing on the battlefield opposite her, were throwing themselves in front of her, using their bodies to absorb the bullets, and then fearlessly charging at the army of mixed humans and machines, breaking through the enemy lines with a tide of flesh.
In this way, even though Nokkneri didn't do anything, just standing there caused the intensity of the battle to rise several levels. The soldiers armed with firearms were quickly overwhelmed and defeated by the rough soldiers armed with spears.
Then, in Nokkneri's confused gaze, these soldiers, after defeating the enemy, quickly surrounded her, cheering as they shouted phrases like "Long live Queen Maeve!" with their eyes full of fervor, waiting for her next command.
"...What is going on? Are humans from the Grand Human History this crazy?"
Nokkneri clicked her tongue.
Maeve? Why are they calling me Queen Maeve? Did they mistake me for someone else?
Just as Nokkneri thought she was starting to piece things together, she noticed a new commotion from her troops.
Then, she heard a familiar voice coming from that direction:
"Tsk, I should've known, these monsters made in batches are truly foolish. How could the Queen be here when she should be back at the rear headquarters?"
"Can you understand my orders? Men! Come with me to capture that imposter!"
Nokkneri's heart sank as soon as she heard those words.
She had guessed right; it seemed her troops had made a mistake, mistaking her for someone else. And now, it was clear that her cover was about to be blown.
What should she do next? Keep pretending and go along with it? Or admit the mistake right away?
But would they believe her if she did? Would it immediately escalate into a battle? Should she try to escape now?
While Nokkneri was still pondering, the soldiers surrounding her parted naturally, creating a path for someone to approach.
Then, Nokkneri saw a very familiar figure appear before her.
"…Finn?"
Seeing the flamboyant, yellow-haired gunner, Nokkneri furrowed her brows in surprise.
"What are you doing here?"
Wait, what's going on? Isn't this Finn, the fairy warrior from the northern fairy army? Why is he here in the Grand Human History?
When she had selected her followers earlier, hadn't she only chosen Guinevere? Why is Finn here now?
The confusion wasn't only on her side. Finn, upon seeing Nokkneri, was also baffled.
Shouldn't Maeve be back at the rear, constantly producing soldiers for the Eastern Army? Why was she suddenly at the front lines?
If he didn't know better, he wouldn't have immediately assumed there was an imposter when he heard soldiers shout "Protect the Queen!" and rushed to this spot.
But no matter what, despite her suddenly changing into black attire, that immense magical power and that face were unmistakably Maeve.
So, upon recognizing her, Finn immediately knelt on one knee before her:
"My apologies! Your Majesty, I didn't realize you had personally arrived here. I failed to come to your rescue in time. Please punish me!"
—He couldn't afford to be disrespectful. Maeve was his master now, with absolute control over him. If she were displeased with him, this cruel woman would find ways to humiliate him again.
Though Finn was a renowned hero, he didn't carry any arrogance. After all, he had once served the High King of Ireland, so he had no resistance to taking orders from others. While he was somewhat reluctant about being forced into servitude under Maeve, he was a smart man.
Knowing he couldn't resist, he quickly accepted his situation and fell into his role.
Anyway, there was no way out. If he couldn't avoid it, he might as well make the best of it.
Upon seeing Finn's response, Nokkneri immediately understood.
So, this was indeed Finn, the fairy warrior she knew... It made sense now. No wonder he called her "Your Majesty."
"…It's fine. I forgive your rudeness. You may rise."
Upon hearing Nokkneri's words, and sensing the unyielding kingly aura around her, Finn was even more certain that the person before him was indeed Queen Maeve.
"Finn, are these soldiers... the ones you gathered after coming here?"
Nokkneri pointed to the fervently staring soldiers surrounding her and asked tentatively.
Could it be that, for some unknown reason, other fairy warriors who served her, apart from Guinevere, had also arrived at this singularity before her, quickly organized the local troops, and were already fighting against the forces behind the singularity?
"Yes, Your Majesty."
Though Finn was a bit confused about Maeve's sudden question, he simply nodded and quickly responded:
"After marching here, we discovered a Western Army outpost, and we're preparing to launch an attack. However, we ran into the enemy's returning forces, and that's how the battle started."
—Something's off.
Nokkneri furrowed her brows.
It felt like their conversation wasn't aligned.
What is this march? Who are Finn's forces fighting against? Is this really the Finn she knows?
And the Western Army? Are they fighting against the Western Army?
Before she could ask more, Finn said:
"Don't worry, Your Majesty. I've already sent Dilumudo ahead to scout. Soon, we'll clear out the enemy's base here."
Hearing his words, Nokkneri furrowed her brows again but then relaxed after a moment's thought.
It seemed Finn was indeed the Finn she knew.
After all, she could understand that fairies from the Fairy Kingdom would have counterparts in the Grand Human History, just like how Guinevere had mentioned that there was a queen who looked exactly like her in the Grand Human History.
But this was too coincidental. Her first time participating in the Fate simulation, and the singularity she came to just happens to have a counterpart of her in the Grand Human History? Moreover, Finn from the fairy kingdom is now working with her in this timeline, and Dilumudo is his partner?
This was a bit too much of a coincidence, even for fantasy novels.
Nokkneri thought to herself.
As for why Finn didn't first report the situation in the singularity, Nokkneri considered that it might be because they were in the middle of battle. He didn't have time for detailed reports, or perhaps he didn't feel the need to tell her they were fighting against the forces of the Demon God King.
After all, the system had said it would automatically give her the knowledge of these singularities, and all her subordinates were so capable. If they had arrived here before her, it would make sense that they would have already organized a fighting force against the Demon God King's forces.
Just as Nokkneri thought her reasoning made sense, she heard a commotion from another direction in the army.
When Finn also looked toward the source of the disturbance, his face quickly changed after observing with his excellent vision.
"Damn it, it looks like there are some heavy hitters at the enemy base. How did Dilumudo get defeated so quickly?"
"Your Majesty, please allow me to take the troops to join Dilumudo and push back the enemy's defense."
"Alright, go ahead," Nokkneri nodded. "I'll personally provide support. Don't disappoint me."
"Of course!" Finn said with confidence, a smile on his face. "I'll quickly sweep away the Western Army forces. I won't let the name of the Fiona Knights fall!"
With that, he immediately led his soldiers toward the new battlefield.
Leaving Nokkneri, who now frowned once again.
"Western Army...? So, are the enemies in this singularity calling themselves the Western Army? Then, does that mean I, as the one trying to fix the singularity, am part of the so-called Eastern Army?"
"And the Fiona Knights...? Was that the name of Finn's squad before?"
Nokkneri thought seriously for a moment, feeling like something was off.
Had she made a mistake somewhere?
As she continued to think about it, suddenly, Finn, who had charged into the enemy's lines, let out a cry.
"Wait! Protect the Queen! A squad has broken through our lines! They're going for a decapitation tactic!"
When Nokkneri looked up at Finn's sudden shout, she saw that the elite squad who had breached the defense line was now close to her.
In that squad, a girl with a large shield and aubergine-colored hair had already reached her.
Upon seeing the girl's attire, Nokkneri froze.
"Isn't this someone from Caldea?"
"Am I fighting against Caldea now?"
