Cosmic Awakening: The Path of the Omnigen Sovereign

Chapter 7: The Weight Of Strength And Strategy

Two fireballs flared into existence mid-air and streaked toward him, but with a sweep of his spear, they were destroyed mid-flight.

Though some areas of his clothes, where the armor couldn't protect, were burnt and his skin scorched, the Restorative Field kept him safe from any real harm.

Barrage of fireballs rained down, targeting them from different angles, but it was always stopped with a spear.

"I can't let this continue or he'll exhaust us." Chen Hui's face was pale.

Even with the buff assisting him, casting so many fireballs had left him drained.

Meanwhile, Feng Zhenyu relied solely on his physical strength and spear, yet his expression was a little better.

"I have to use that skill." He gritted his teeth, thinking to himself.

A fireball appeared in the middle of the arena, slightly bigger than the others.

The fireball hovered, absorbing energy. Each second, it swelled, pulsing with intense heat and growing more unstable.

"Go!" He shouted, falling to his knees and breathing heavily.

"Stay back!" Feng Zhenyu shouted at Zhao Meilan.

He held his spear upwards, and the wind elements surged wildly around him, drawing inwards to the spear and enveloping it.

"Wind Thrust!" He yelled with a thrust of the spear.

The spear shot out, tearing through the air as it raced toward the incoming fireball.

Boom!

A loud sound rang out with the explosion of the fireball.

Feng Zhenyu fell to his right knee, breathing heavily and his face void of colour.

"Feng Zhenyu's team won," Wu Yuan said opening his eyes.

Hearing what he said, the rest of the students of the Cloud City High School looked at him.

"Hmph! How did you know, even the envoy up there hasn't said anything," Liu Kai said, finding an excuse to challenge Wu Yuan as usual.

"I think you're just trying to act cool."

"Feng Zhenyu and Zhao Meilan won!" A second after Liu Kai challenged Wu Yuan, the result was announced, which was like a slap to the face.

On the arena, Feng Zhenyu's spear was embedded in the ground beside Chen Hui.

A thin line of blood ran down Chen Hui's cheek, left by the spear's passing strike.

The result of the battle could be seen at a glance.

The students of Cloud City High School looked at Liu Kai as if looking at a fool.

"These are talented students. If it was in another situation and the arena was bigger, it would be hard to tell who would come out on top between the two paths." A certain principal commented.

"That's true," the rest also nodded.

"Return to your school stands. Our healers will tend to your injuries and fatigue. Prepare for the next round," the woman said with a wave of her hand.

"Thank you, envoy." They said in unison with a bow and walked down the arena.

"Next, Wang Jie versus Han Yucheng," the envoy called out.

The two people who were called walked to the arena.

Han Yucheng had golden hair, a shield, and a sword. A Radiant Knight.

"These two paths are both Tier 10. It would be a clash of equals, but the outcome will depend entirely on their synergy and strategy," one of the principals said.

"Why don't we bet who would come out on top?" Cang Ming said.

"Hmph! Cang Ming, you think we don't know what you're up to? Wang Jie is clearly a student of your school." Another principal scoffed.

"Hahaha, Lin Jian, isn't Han Yucheng also a student of your school?" Cang Ming retorted. "Or you don't dare to bet?"

"Of course, I'll bet! Why won't I? But what would we bet upon?" Lin Jian puffed out his chest.

"We'll both bet three Bronze skills. What do you say?"

"That's good. I just hope you won't go back on your words. Or else I won't let you go." His voice turned a little cold.

"Why would I?" Cang Ming scoffed, waving the comment off with a smirk.

"Start!" The envoy shouted.

In the arena, Wang Jie leapt forward, drawing his longsword from his back and bringing it down toward Han Yucheng in a powerful arc.

Han Yucheng didn't charge forward, instead, he stood his ground, raising his shield defensively in front of him.

Boom!

The long sword collided with the shield, forcing Han Yucheng to take a step back.

Han Yucheng frowned, his right hand holding onto the shield felt numb.

"Barbaric Strike!" Wang Jie yelled swinging his greatsword once more, his muscles bulging with raw strength.

"Radiant Ward!" Han Yucheng cried out as the shield in his hand glowed golden.

He advanced with his shield at his front.

Bang!

The shield and greatsword clashed, forcing both of them to stagger backward.

"What!" Wang Jie shouted, clearly shocked by being forced back.

"Light Brand Slash!" Han Yucheng roared with a swing of his sword.

His sword erupted in crimson glow as he chopped down.

"Fury!" Wang Jie also roared as his greatsword burst into bloody lights

Fury is a Berserker Innate Skill which

temporarily boosts strength, speed, and pain resistance. The longer the fight or more damage taken, the stronger the Berserker becomes.

His body swelled in size and his muscles bulged even more.

He gripped his greatsword with both hands, raised it high, and advanced.

Han Yucheng sidestepped at the last second, letting Wang Jie's blow brush off his shield before countering with a slash to the ribs.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The two had exchanged more than ten fierce blows.

Han Yucheng got on a knee, breathing heavily.

Wang Jie was still charging forward with great momentum. Sword wounds covered his body, but it was as if he didn't feel them at all.

On the other hand, Han Yucheng was a little pale with sword marks over his shield.

"Hahaha! Give up! You dragged the fight on for too long. If it had ended quickly, you might've won. But once I enter Fury Mode, the longer I fight, the stronger I become."

Wang Jie smirked, dragging his greatsword along the ground with his right hand.

"You're too naive." Han Yucheng said with a smile.

Wang Jie kept moving forward, brushing off the words as meaningless, only to stop abruptly

"What is going on?" He muttered, his voice filled with confusion as he went to his knees, slamming into the ground. His greatsword dug a shallow trench as it dropped beside him.

The rage helping him a moment ago was starting to disappear, causing his body to enter a moment of weakness.

"Do you really think my knight skills are purely defensive?" Han Yucheng asked, rising with difficulty and walking forward, one step at a time.

"This Wang Jie still has little experience!" one of the principals commented.

"Does he think that only head-on rage is the way to win a fight?"

"This is one of the shortcomings of the Berserker path. Although their path is rare, they think only brute strength can win every battle.

The Radiant Ward is a Knight Innate Skill. Although defensive, it also has a calming effect on those who come into contact with it. It won't show its effect immediately, but after a long period of time, its effects will start to show," the envoy said.

"HAHAHA! Wang Cang, don't forget our bet, did you?" The principal asked, laughing out loud.

"I…!" He stopped, then looked at the envoy. "Of course, I am a man of my word. Since I've made the bet, I must surely keep my promise," he said with gritted teeth.

"Wang Cang, you've really changed. You kept your promise this time around." He said, laughing out loud.

"Han Yucheng won the battle this time around. Go down, our healer will come heal your injuries for the next round," the envoy said.

"Here…!" Han Yucheng extended a hand.

"Thank you." Wang Jie said, accepting the help.

Just like that, they helped each other up.

"The next round would be between Wu Yuan and Feng Jianyu," the envoy said, looking at the projected screen.

At the envoy's word, Wu Yuan opened his eyes and rose from his cross-legged position. 'Finally, my turn,' he muttered, stepping onto the arena.

At the other side was a beautiful girl with green long hair holding a bow.

"Huh…" The envoy looked at Wu Yuan with a frown.

"What's wrong?" The young man beside her asked.

"That should be Ying Yue's brother I heard her talking a lot about. I heard news that he didn't awaken, but it seems otherwise. The strange thing is that his path isn't recorded in the database... and I can't sense what it might be. Her interest was piqued.

"Oh him? I heard he isn't her biological brother. It shouldn't be a problem for his family to hide his path, should it?" the young man said.

"I guess you're right. But don't let her hear you say that, or she won't let you off easily," the envoy said teasingly

He scoffed, "Hmph, we'll see."

The envoy shook her head not paying attention.

She looked at the "Start!"

Feng Jianyu drew her bow and the wind surged around her, forming into a sleek, translucent arrow that rested on the bowstring

"Won't you draw your weapon?" Noticing Wu Yuan not taking out any weapon, she asked with a frown.

"There's no need." Wu Yuan shook his head.

"You're looking down on me?" Her frown deepened.

"That's not it, it's just…" He tried explaining but was interrupted by the swift arrow.

Wu Yuan hastily shifted to the side, his leg enhanced by wind element, narrowly avoiding the strike by a hair's breadth.
