Chapter 34: Chapter 34: The Growing Closeness
The night at sea felt peaceful after the massive storm they had endured. The once dark, lightning-filled sky had transformed into a vast ocean of twinkling stars. Only the sound of gentle waves and the occasional creak of the ship filled the silence, creating a calm atmosphere—yet between MC and Nami, a different kind of tension was beginning to rise.
Nami was still leaning against MC's shoulder, her body warm despite their slightly damp clothes. MC tried to stay composed, but the awareness of their closeness made his thoughts a little chaotic.
"You know," Nami suddenly spoke, her voice soft, almost a whisper, "it's been a long time since I've felt this at peace."
MC glanced at her. "After a storm that big?"
Nami gave a small smile. "That's not what I meant." She sighed, gazing at the starry sky. "Since I was a child, I've always lived in fear. Never truly believing that I could be free… But now, everything feels different."
MC looked at her face, illuminated by the moonlight—there was sincerity and warmth in her expression. "You're free now, Nami. And no one can take that away from you again."
Nami turned to him, her brown eyes meeting his directly. There was something there—something more than just gratitude or happiness.
"You always say things like that… and somehow, I believe you."
MC gave a small smile. "That's because I've never lied to you."
Nami let out a soft chuckle, then without warning, she shifted even closer. The space between them grew smaller, and MC could smell the salty scent of the sea in her hair as the night breeze played with it.
"What would you do if I told you… I'm starting to get used to having you by my side?" Nami asked, her tone playful, yet there was a hidden seriousness behind it.
MC swallowed. "Depends. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"
Nami held his gaze for a long moment before smirking. "Maybe a little dangerous."
MC chuckled. "You like dangerous things, don't you?"
Nami didn't answer immediately. Instead, she slowly leaned in, leaving only a few inches between them. MC's heartbeat quickened, but he didn't move away.
"I don't know… maybe this time, I want to try something different." Nami whispered, her eyes locked onto his.
MC could feel her warm breath so close, and for a split second, his mind was filled with countless possibilities.
But just before anything happened, Nami suddenly flashed a mischievous smile and pulled away just as quickly. "But don't think I'll make it easy for you."
MC blinked, still slightly caught off guard. "You're really enjoying this, aren't you?"
Nami let out a soft laugh. "Maybe."
MC sighed, but he couldn't hide his smile. "I'll get you back for this later."
Nami only winked playfully. "We'll see about that."
That night, in the middle of the vast and peaceful ocean, something more than just a journey was beginning to take shape between them. Something that might be far harder to avoid than any storm.
