Codes of Memory: Hokkaidō Mission

Chapter 7: The Start of the Operations

"Destroy it?" Ren echoed, the weight of the task settling on his shoulders. "That sounds... impossible."

Jonathan turned, his eyes piercing. "Nothing is impossible. Especially when the alternative is global enslavement. We've been tracking Chronos's signal, but it's constantly shifting, hidden behind layers of encrypted data and manipulated satellite feeds. We believe it's mobile, or at least, its central processing unit is."

He gestured towards a massive holographic display, showing a complex network of nodes and connections. "This is the KSG network. It's not just about androids. It's about control. Control of information, resources, and ultimately, people. Chronos is the central hub, the brain. Without it, the network collapses."

"But how do we find it?" Kenzo asked, his gaze fixed on the intricate display.

"That's where you come in," Jonathan said, turning to them. "You've seen their operations firsthand. You've experienced their tactics. You're our eyes and ears on the ground. We need you to infiltrate their strongholds, gather intelligence, and identify Chronos's location. You'll be working with our contacts, a network of operatives who have been fighting KSG from within."

"Operatives?" Hina asked, her voice laced with skepticism. "Who are they?"

"They are people from all walks of life," Jonathan replied. "Former military, hackers, scientists, even ex-KSG personnel. They are united by a common goal: to stop the androids and restore freedom. You'll meet your first contact tonight. He'll give you your first mission."

A chime sounded from a console, and a message flashed across the screen. "Contact arriving in Sector 7."

"That's him," Jonathan said, his voice clipped. "He'll brief you on the details. Ren, Hina, Kenzo, you three will be operating independently, but you'll have access to our resources. We'll provide you with secure communication channels, advanced surveillance equipment, and any support you need."

He led them through a series of corridors, each lined with workstations and blinking servers, until they reached a secluded room. Inside, a figure sat in a chair, their back to them. They turned, revealing a woman with short, silver hair and piercing blue eyes.

"This is Anya," Jonathan said. "She's one of our most experienced operatives. She'll be your liaison."

Anya rose, her movements fluid and efficient. "Welcome," she said, her voice cool and professional. "Your first mission: infiltrate a KSG facility on the outskirts of Las Vegas. We have reason to believe they are storing crucial data there, potentially related to Chronos's location. Your objective is to retrieve that data and transmit it back to us."

She handed Ren a tablet containing detailed schematics of the facility and security protocols. "This is a high-security installation. Be prepared for resistance. KSG will not hesitate to use lethal force."

Ren checked the KSG Tracker app. The situation was disastrous. All of Southeast Asia and India were under KSG control. The red zones of the androids spread like wildfire, swallowing entire cities.

"And the operation with Canadian support?" Kenzo asked.

"Canada is providing us with crucial logistical and military support for this operation," Jonathan said. "We are preparing a large-scale action, and their help is vital. For now, your mission is the priority. Chronos is our priority. If we don't stop it, the entire operation will be compromised."

"Speaking of operations," Jonathan continued, "I have given the go-ahead to open the new offices in Milan and Ankara. These are strategic points for controlling communication routes and gathering information. In Milan, the person in charge will be Marco Visconti, a former Italian secret service agent with extensive experience in counter-espionage. In Ankara, we will have Elif Demir, a brilliant data analyst with contacts throughout the region. We need to expand rapidly if we are to have a chance."

"Okay," Ren said, his voice firm. He looked at Hina and Kenzo, a silent understanding passing between them. They were no longer just witnesses; they were active participants in a war for the future of humanity.

Anya handed them small, black devices. "These are neural disruptors. They will temporarily disable any android you encounter. Use them wisely. You only have a limited charge."

"Let's go," Ren said, his hand tightening on the tablet. The lights of Las Vegas, once a symbol of entertainment and luxury, now seemed to pulse with a dark, sinister energy. They were entering the lion's den, and the stakes had never been higher
