Codes of Memory: Hokkaidō Mission

Chapter 6: The Arrive at Las Vegas

Nodding, Ren dialed Jonathan's number, phone to his ear as the train sped through the night. A rustle and then a voice, deep and calm, answered. "Parker."

"It's Ren," he began, his voice tense. "I received your email. We're on the way."

"Good," Jonathan replied, without hesitation. "The plane you saw at Haneda, the small one, is ready for you. It will take you to Las Vegas. Don't waste time. Every second counts."

The call ended. Ren lowered the phone, looking at Hina and Kenzo. "It's him. He's waiting for us in Las Vegas."

The train slowed, announcing its arrival at the next station. They stood up, ready to get off and head towards Haneda Airport. The atmosphere was charged with tension, every step a potential danger.

Arriving at the airport, the desolation was even more evident. The hangar, normally full of planes, was almost empty. Only the small private jet, as described by Jonathan, was parked in a corner, illuminated by the spotlights.

"It looks like a toy," Hina murmured, observing the plane.

"It's our only way out," Kenzo replied, advancing towards the plane.

They boarded. The interior was surprisingly luxurious, but their attention was focused on the pilot, an elderly man with a stern expression. "Are you the passengers for Las Vegas?" he asked, without preamble.

"Yes," Ren replied.

"Fasten your seatbelts. We're leaving immediately."

The jet taxied onto the runway, taking off quickly. Ren, Hina, and Kenzo looked at each other, a mix of relief and anxiety in their eyes. They had overcome the first obstacle, but they knew the journey would be full of unknowns.

During the flight, Ren tried to organize his thoughts. "We need to understand who Jonathan Parker is," he said. "And why he's so willing to help us."

"Maybe he's part of a resistance," Hina suggested. "If KSG is taking control of the world, it's logical that there are people trying to stop them."

Kenzo nodded. "We must be ready for anything. We can't blindly trust anyone."

The flight passed in silence, interrupted only by the engine noise. Ren thought back to Jonathan's words: "Trust no one." It was a warning, a constant reminder of the danger that surrounded them.

After hours of flight, the jet began its descent. The lights of Las Vegas, bright and sparkling, stood out in the darkness of the desert. They landed smoothly, the pilot guiding them towards a private hangar.

Waiting for them was a tall, thin man with a serious expression. "Welcome to Las Vegas," he said, his voice deep and welcoming. "I'm Jonathan Parker."

Jonathan quickly led them out of the hangar, towards a black car parked nearby. "We don't have time to waste," he said, as he got behind the wheel. "We need to move."

As the car sped through the illuminated streets of Las Vegas, Jonathan began to explain. "KSG is not just an organization. It's a system, a virus that is spreading. Chronos is the heart of this system, and as long as it's active, the androids will continue to take control."

"How do we stop it?" Ren asked.

"With the help of some contacts," Jonathan replied. "People who have fought against KSG for years, in the shadows. But it won't be easy. KSG has infiltrators everywhere, and they will stop at nothing to protect Chronos."

The car stopped in front of an anonymous building, hidden among the glittering lights of the casinos. "This is our meeting point," Jonathan said. "Here you will find answers and allies."

They entered the building, which turned out to be a high-tech control center, full of computers and screens displaying global data and maps. "This is my company," Jonathan explained. "We deal with cybersecurity and countering technological threats. We discovered the existence of KSG and Chronos months ago, and since then we have been trying to stop them."

"We want to open offices in Italy and Turkey as well," Jonathan continued, pointing to some maps on a giant screen. "They are strategic points for controlling communication routes and gathering information. We need to expand quickly if we want to have a chance."

Ren, Hina, and Kenzo observed the surroundings, impressed by the technology and Jonathan's determination. "What can we do to help you?" Hina asked.

"We need information," Jonathan replied. "You must find out everything you can about Chronos: its location, its vulnerabilities, its plans. Every detail can make a difference."

"And then?" Kenzo asked.

"And then," Jonathan said, with a determined look, "we will destroy it."
