Chapter 766: Black's Schemes — Herpo The Foul at Hogwarts?!
With every passing day, Kai was getting the hang of Side Missions regarding major storyline Characters.
He could assign Side Missions to himself to switch Random Worlds. He could assign Side Missions, as well as Main Missions, to his Party Members. However, he couldn't play with true Side Missions within a timeline when it came to himself.
With enough trials and errors, Kai had figured out a way that had over a 50% probability of resulting in a Side Mission — Perception!
Not only the perception of the involved major Storyline Character, but also the perception of the audience, if there was one; the larger, the better.
The Triwizard Tournament wasn't Kai's idea.
Whatever that happened later, though, was.
From the division of students into two Groups to Intra-School Competitions… From the choice of dragons to the pairing of 1st Group's students…
From Crouch Sr's ridiculous idea of letting out confidential matters to the audience's immense emotion in favor of Daphne…
Help her… They had wished in their hearts.
Help me… Daphne had wished in her heart.
So, naturally, the System would assign a Side Mission to Kai, who was, very coincidentally, her partner.
Regardless of such deep manipulations using Ad Infinitum, there were still things out of Kai's control.
One of those things was the existence of The Order of the Immortal Lotus.
If it wasn't for those Six, then Kai didn't need to keep the Echoes (the Sub-AIs) in hibernation mode, letting them linger around people's minds only.
With this, he could only nudge their thoughts; thoughts that they were naturally inclined to show.
It was especially more so with Herpo the Foul's birthing into this timeline. If he got even a hint of Echoes in the students… then Kai's entire Main Mission could be jeopardized.
The second thing was Dumbledore. Not the humble, speech-giver, motivating one. The black, young, burning Despair around him, one.
The one who was on a spree to assimilate as many Dumbledores' souls inside himself as possible.
The one who wanted Black to teach him the Ancient Magical Script.
Every time Kai thought about that Dumbledore, his Lucky Intuitions went haywire, bubbling out feelings that he didn't like at all.
The third thing was related to Tom Riddle's Diary.
Fortunately, because of the unfortunate event related to the Basilisk's disappearance, the task of petrifying students fell on Kai's shoulders.
And that couldn't happen without the holder of the Diary calling him out from the girls' bathroom.
…
-Open!-
With Black's one hiss, the giant basin in the girl's bathroom opened.
He stepped in and levitated midair as the basin closed up on him. Selene seeped out from him, coiling around him. She took the forms of three tiny snakelets and kissed his chin.
-I will be very careful, master,- she hissed. -I won't kill you accidentally. I promise.-
Black's lips twitched.
Several days had passed since the 1st stage of the Triwizard Tournament.
All that the school, and the wizarding community as a whole, could talk about was Darcie's stupendous self-transfiguration into a six-winged Thunderbird.
She had taken down a dragon!!!
Of course, there was a column on Black taking down the dragon as well.
Still, like everything else, the Celebrity Crusher wasn't a people pleaser, especially when he so obviously stood against Darcie.
There were some stark changes in the School, though.
Students remembered Black's name. A hilarious Gryffindor student. Handsome. And if you didn't like Darcie, then nothing better than that.
Yes. After spending almost two years at Hogwarts, Black had his fans in the face of jealous girls.
Regardless of what everyone was hoping for Black and Darcie, they were bound to be disappointed.
Because Kai was going to do it again.
Making Black and Darcie go out of the storyline events.
Black rubbed his temples, remembering the pain of avoiding Dumbledore these days. The black one.
In the last two weeks, the black-bearded Dumbledore had already called Black five times to the office.
Kai had predicted this to happen after his show in the Quidditch Field. But he couldn't afford to teach Dumbledore the Script yet.
Right after the end of the 2nd year, there might come a chance when he would be facing Dumbledore.
Till then, it was better to avoid doing anything irrational.
So, Black had to go out of the picture for a long time.
Darcie's matter was a touch worse.
Ever since Kai had fought Herpo the Foul, one of his Lucky Intuitions kept coming back to him.
Lucky Intuition No. %^&#$: Herpo the Foul failed to sense Darcie when she was supposed to be at Hogwarts. Given her being the Candidate of Indigo Seat, there are extreme chances of him visiting her, despite the Timeline's threat looming over him.
Kai couldn't afford that.
Given Herpo the Foul's great strength and unknown magic, there were chances that the mythical wizard might pick up the discrepancy in Darcie's soul, despite Kai's grand Luck.
"Sigh!" Black stroked Selene's misty heads. "With everything proceeding so unpredictably fast in this timeline… I might have to finish everything in the next two years…"
Selene solidified to feel his touch. -By the fourth year?- The Time Devourer, holding a single yellow eye, hissed with deliberation. -Will that be enough, master? You need to achieve Bankai, too, you know?-
-He also needs to cause Resonance between Verse Fusion Random World and Harry Potter and Fate timelines…- The Space Devourer hissed, her blind, gray eye shut.
-Oh-Oh… is it my turn to add something important?- the Life Devourer hissed, her single black eye narrowing in blatant amusement.
[Let's just eat everyone!] Venom suggested. [I don't like these… schemes. Eat. Digest. Gain Power. Eat more!!]
Black shook his head.
Suddenly, steps rang outside.
The moment he heard those steps, Black's brows shot up.
And the moment Black sensed the presence outside, he couldn't help but curse. "What the…"
…
An uproar had overturned the joy at Hogwarts.
As Dumbledore walked hurriedly alongside a fuming Madam Maxime, he saw the pale faces of the students, terror lingering in their gazes, as if they had just been to the Battle of Legends again.
This terror was justified because… if even Darcie was attacked, then who was safe in the school anymore?!
"Oh, Albus…" McGonagall came running toward the Headmaster, her eyes wet. "… This is so wrong…"
Professor Snape held a nasty frown on his face, as if someone had made fun of his nose right in front of him.
"I will need an explanation, Albus…" Madam Maxime hissed, her anger making her French accent vanish. "My student waz attacked!"
Dumbledore kept quiet until he saw the group of students standing in front of the hospital wing's entrance.
Harry, Ron, Draco, Daphne, and Hermione.
The girls were crying their eyes out. Draco's face held anger a touch brighter than Madam Maxime's.
Harry and Ron's eyes also looked red. They just couldn't find out why it was always Black.
"They will be alright," Dumbledore told them. "I promise."
Draco gnashed his teeth at the old man. Perhaps, his father had been right about Dumbledore. He was getting old and didn't have what it took to be a Headmaster.
Dumbledore walked in and found Black, Darcie, and a Beauxbatons champion from the 1st Group lying listlessly on the beds.
"The girl was taking Darcie's autograph," Madam Pomfrey explained, approaching them. "She was holding an article over Darcie."
"Was she…" McGonagall left the question unasked.
Madam Maxime approached the girl, took a deep breath, and nodded. "Yezz. Her parentzz are Mugglezz."
"Darcie must have tried to save the girl…" Dumbledore mumbled. He then looked at Black and sighed.
"It's true, I am afraid," he said, shaking his head. "The Chamber of Secrets is open…"
McGonagall gasped.
"Let's go," Dumbledore told them. "We need to inform the ministry…"
"No need!"
When they turned around, they found Cornelius Fudge, Crouch Sr, and a blistering Lucius Malfoy standing at the entrance.
Lucius, like Draco, gnashed his teeth, his fingers tightening around the wand. "Count your days… Dumbledore."
…
When all of them had walked out, space rippled green between the rows of beds in the infirmary.
Herpo the Foul, leaving green afterimages, peeked into the timeline. His slitted, green eyes landed on Darcie and Black for a moment.
-Odd…- he hissed, frowning.
And then the overwhelming presence fell upon him.
The Timeline had come.
Taking a last look at the two children, Herpo the Foul melted back into the seams of the Random World.
