Chaos and Order - A Multiverse Fanfic

Chapter 746: The Black Phoenix Burning Despair!!!

If Black was not a Faceless, this would have been one of those times when he would lose all the cool.

For the first time after reincarnating into the Random World of Harry Potter, he was feeling what it truly meant to be a wizard.

Professor Dumbledore, or whatever the thing that was looking at him right now, was Mana personification.

Black could still feel the trauma he had inflicted upon the Headmaster.

The sea-like Despair was still there, surrounding Dumbledore like humidity after rain.

Yet, the surrounding blackness almost countered everything, overtaking all emotions and expressions.

Black could have ignored everything, including the changes.

But how could he ignore the strength of Albus Dumbledore that had gone beyond the 10th floor, entering deep into the realms of an 11th-floor Contestant?

How could he ignore that despite the timeline still possessing an Overall Grade of C+, and despite the timeline still being a Secondary one below the Pillars, Albus Dumbledore had gone beyond the strength a storyline Character could ever have?

It was almost like Black wasn't looking at Professor Dumbledore anymore, but Darcie Malfoy.

Because an existence only like her could ever do such a thing, for she wasn't just a Character, but an Anomaly.

Darcie Malfoy possessed the Supreme Providence of this timeline—a Providence that, by nature, could only be possessed by one being.

Is the Timeline messing with me?! Black thought, walking forward with a nervous expression. Is SHE… trying to turn Dumbledore into an Anomaly?

However, even the Ad Infinitum and the Lucky Intuitions couldn't come for any possible reason for the Timeline to do so. Nor could they find out the reason behind Dumbledore's strange strength and transformation.

It was like…

[There's a variable on par with Timeline and Deep One] The Ad Infinitum concluded.

Lucky Intuition No. %^&*$ — Albus Dumbledore's following the path of becoming an Imperishable Artifact on his own.

Neither was a good thing for Kai and his plans.

For now, if one ignored the Contestants who had holed themselves in the Cursed Vaults because of the Timeline, then Kai was the strongest existence on the planet.

He was aiming to be over with his Main Mission and Death's Kill Order before the timeline became a Pillar.

However, if Dumbledore could potentially rise to the status, or equivalent, of an Anomaly, then…

I knew something was wrong with the blue-eyed fucker… Black thought, gulping, frowning under the bubbling Mana as expected of him. The question is… who's acting as Dumbledore instead of the original…

If even a Faceless couldn't tell the difference between the fake and the real, then it surely meant something truly terrible was going on behind the scenes.

"Please take a seat, Mr. Black," Lord Black Phoenix said, smiling at him.

Black approached the table and nervously sat down on the chair opposite the old wizard. "Professor Dumbledore?"

The Headmaster's smile broadened. "You can sense it, can't you?" he said, silently standing up. "The nature of the Mana around me…"

There was a jumpiness within him, making others feel as if they were looking at a young man.

However, when he walked off the table, he still limped with every left step.

Then, stopping at the table's corner near Black, he pulled back his hood.

The 12-year-old boy's eyes almost popped out.

Albus Dumbledore, almost over a hundred and ten years old, carried a headful of gray hair, a long gray beard, and a gray mustache. His blue eyes had gone utterly gray, almost matching the color of Black's eyes. Almost.

The only thing that differed Black's eyes from Dumbledore's was that the former held Calm inside them, and the latter's were burning with Despair.

… No…

… Not burning with Despair…

Those eyes were burning Despair itself…

The Ad Infinitum went haywire.

Till now, Black only knew himself who possessed the ability to turn emotions into abstract concepts, getting a boost in his HP, MP, and SP regeneration rates.

But he was a Contestant.

This was the first time he was seeing a Character do so, burning a Concept to gain not merely regenerate Mana reserves, but Mana itself.

Now, it wasn't like there were no Characters who could do so.

Black could name a few right now if needed.

However, the hideous fact behind it all persisted.

This was Albus Dumbledore of Harry Potter Random World. It had only one Deep One — Death the Artificer, whose authority didn't lie in Despair.

Then what the hell was going on?!!!

"Are… are you not…" Black stuttered, his palms sweating.

"Please, relax," Dumbledore put a hand on Black's shoulder.

The Ad Infinitum instantly blocked synchronization, letting Black forget about the Systems. If not, then perhaps his body would have naturally acted out, beginning the world's annihilation on the spot.

There were things hard to control for even Kai, regardless of the strength he had gained.

Dumbledore touching Black was like the times when Kai had used the Philosopher's Stone to see Eon Soul Dew's stats, attracting Death. Then, he had naturally run away using the Lethifold.

Now, with him gaining his full strength, running away wasn't an option.

— Rooting the bug named Despaired-Dumbledore off the picture was certainly on the table, though.

"Drink the sharbat," Dumbledore added, lifting his hand.

Black, now a Gryffindor student with awesome Ancient Magical powers, was surprised to see a sharbat glass on the table. He was thirsty, he realized.

So, thinking nothing, he drank it down.

A cool sensation took over his body, keeping the despairing sensation off him.

Dumbledore nodded to himself. "Let's keep this… a secret between us, OK?" he asked, winking at the student.

Black winked back, making the Headmaster smile. "Are you… alright, Sir?"

For a moment, Dumbledore went silent. Then he smiled assuringly, thinking of something. "I will be. I promise. I am afraid I can't tell you much, Mr. Black. However, the circumstances dictate that you must trust me…"

Black randomly blurted. "I trust you, Sir. Especially now that your hair color matches mine."

"Hahaha!" Dumbledore laughed, shaking his head. "Truly a rare case, you are, Mr. Black. I won't take much of your time."

Black nodded.

"First, congratulations on the marvelous performance against Darcie," Dumbledore praised. "She can be a handful, but her heart's in the right place."

Black had nothing to say to that, and Dumbledore seemed to feel him, for he moved on fast from that topic.

"Second…" the Headmaster said, moving away toward his chair, "… congratulations on gaining even further mastery of the… Ancient Mana."

"Ancient… Mana?"

Dumbledore sat down and looked at Black. "These runes that spring up in your mind—they belong to a lost Script."

Black's brows rose. "You know them, too?"

For the first time, Dumbledore's mouth twitched.

"I wish…" he said, shaking his head. "No, Mr. Black. I don't. I can't. And for this, I have called you to my office. I know you are already occupied by many things. Detention. Quidditch match. Studies. Yet, I must ask you of this, shameless as I've become…"

Black shifted on his chair uncomfortably. "… what is it, Professor?"

The Black Phoenix's gray eyes burned Despair, the Mana around him gaining life.

"Teach me, Mr. Black. I beg you. Teach me what you can naturally learn — The Ancient Magical Script."

Even the Ad Infinitum couldn't prevent a notification from popping up, then.
