Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 108 - Preparation

Letting the prince buy supplies meant that the speed of delivery was unquestionable. Within an hour, a guard delivered the supplies directly to Ruo Manni: “Miss Ruo Manni, please check the items. If anything is missing, please let me know.”

With a prince’s guard handling things, how could it be anything less than thorough?

Since everyone’s backpack had limited capacity, after putting in the various supplies distributed by the school, there was less than one-fifth of the space left. Ruo Manni separated her prepared supplies, ensuring that each member of Adam’s team carried some.

“Vice-captain, what is this? Why is this little box so heavy?” Su Forty-Three asked curiously. Only he and the captain had brought these two small boxes, and they were indeed quite heavy in their backpacks.

“It’s just food; you’ll understand when the time comes,” Ruo Manni replied, distracted, as she checked for any overlooked items.

Despite Sheila usually being quite chatty, she was very obedient when it came to these matters. Whatever Ruo Manni asked her to pack, she did so without question, and her inquiries were simply normal curiosity.

With everything prepared, the first-year students excitedly awaited dawn.

Just before falling asleep, Ruo Manni suddenly remembered something important: in the novel, the female lead had received two major opportunities. The first occurred when she was five years old, during which she accidentally saved the head of the Olli family, thus obtaining the family’s best cultivation resources.

The second opportunity was received after the female lead entered the Xuan Gu First Military Academy during her first new student training session.

Ever since Ruo Manni was sent from Topaz Star by the Crown Prince to participate in special training, she had noticed that Hua Deli and Mina Olli, the novel’s male and female leads, had already lost their halo due to the butterfly effect of changing circumstances.

Seeing that the male and female leads were different from those in the novel, Ruo Manni gradually stopped connecting them with the characters from the book and began to think about the novel less and less.

Ruo Manni had no ill intentions toward them; whether in the novel or reality, these two were relatively positive characters. Given their potential for cultivation, their future achievements would undoubtedly be significant, making them core forces in the fight against aliens.

Ruo Manni felt that her own “golden finger” was exceptionally strong. As long as she worked hard, her future accomplishments would surely surpass those of others.

Furthermore, interstellar warfare could not be won by the strength of just one person. The more highly skilled human practitioners there were, the greater the hope for humanity in the Gumera Star Domain.

Thus, Ruo Manni didn’t think too much about the female lead’s opportunities until now. She suddenly remembered that in the novel, the first training session for the first-year students at Xuan Gu First Military Academy took place on an island, where they needed to climb a high mountain.

During this process, Mina Olli had a major opportunity that allowed her and Hua Deli’s cultivation potential to rise significantly, from E-rank to 2E.

Ruo Manni tried hard to recall how the female lead obtained that opportunity. Perhaps due to the passage of time, she couldn’t remember the details. When she read that part, she had jumped ahead to check the readers’ comments and lost track of where the female lead was and what she did to gain that opportunity.

Ruo Manni remembered very clearly that the readers in the comment section had a heated debate about the female lead’s sudden opportunity. Many felt it was inconsistent with common sense. Numerous readers pointed out, “Isn’t this a sci-fi story? Why does it suddenly feature a ‘washing marrow fruit’ that only exists in cultivation novels? This is too out of place!”

Ruo Manni also recalled the author responding, saying that as a ‘mother,’ she wanted her daughter to have a special opportunity or something like that.

As for where the female lead obtained the washing marrow fruit and what it looked like, Ruo Manni tried hard to remember for a while but could only vaguely recall that it was seemingly found in a forested area.

This was a golden opportunity! If she had the chance, Ruo Manni certainly wanted to seize it. It would be great for Captain Lin and Instructor Fang, but no, having the Crown Prince use it would be even better.

But the problem was that she couldn’t remember the exact location or the appearance of the washing marrow fruit. Since she and Mina Olli belonged to two different teams, it was impossible for them to go together. How could she get it?

After thinking it over, she couldn’t come up with a good plan, so Ruo Manni decided to let it go. Rare treasures like this were meant to be found by those with fate; if she wasn’t one of them, she probably wouldn’t find it anyway. She could only let nature take its course.

The next morning, thinking about going out for the field survival training and not having to immerse herself in studying and cultivating anymore, Ruo Manni felt a sense of freedom and a little excitement.

She tied her shoulder-length black hair into a sturdy bun that was resilient and easy to manage. Then she put on the super expensive, custom-made black combat suit she had ordered from the school with her credits.

She wrapped a silver soft whip around her waist, slung a long sword over her shoulder, adjusting it so she could draw it with a swift motion, and then carried a black backpack on her back.

The pistol couldn’t be carried, but she hid it in her jade pendant space, where no one would be able to find it. In a life-threatening situation, she could take it out to save her life.

Five willow leaf flying blades were neatly placed in a special pocket by her leg, and she could “retrieve” them with her psychic power without even needing to reach out.

Mina Olli and Sheila were dressed similarly to Ruo Manni, all in the same custom-made black combat suits and matching black boots. The three of them also chose the willow leaf long sword as their preferred weapon, as it was most suitable for female users.

As Ruo Manni walked, the long sword was slung diagonally across her back, and a red Chinese knot she had personally woven swayed in the air. Without needing to see her delicate face, the unique aura she exuded was already captivating.

“Where did you get that ornament? It’s so unique,” Sheila asked, staring at Ruo Manni’s Chinese knot.

“I made it myself,” Ruo Manni replied, glancing at her, wondering if the girl had taken a liking to it.

Looking over at Mina Olli, she also seemed quite interested in the Chinese knot. After a moment of thought, Ruo Manni turned back and went into her dorm room, bringing out several strands of braided string to offer to Mina Olli and Sheila. “These are just some I casually made, they’re cheap, but they’re fun to have.”

Ruo Manni had not only made several styles of Chinese knots but also a finely crafted little fish. Sheila immediately spotted the fish, reached out to take it, and teased, “Can commoners like you all do this?”

Ruo Manni rolled her eyes elegantly and asked Mina Olli, “Do you want one?”

Mina Olli had also created a more intricate pattern for her Chinese knot and smiled, “You have very skillful hands.”

The first-year students gathered at the sports field, and Ruo Manni, along with Mina Olli and Sheila, walked over together. The instructors standing at the sidelines scanned them with a device.

As Ruo Manni walked over from a distance, she saw a boy in front of them being scanned, and the red light on the testing device lit up. He was then pulled aside by another instructor to have his belongings checked.

When the detector scanned Ruo Manni and her two companions, the device did not light up red, so the instructor waved for them to enter.

“Your sword tassels are beautiful. Where did you get them?” Dean Atchison asked with interest.

“Ruo Manni made them herself,” Mina Olli replied.

Hebrew Adam and Hua Deli, standing together, heard their conversation but merely glanced back without any interest before turning back to their own discussion.
