Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 104 - Gravity Battle

Since the instructors arranged for everyone to form teams, Hebrew Adam, as the captain, had gained genuine recognition from the team members through both his actions and methods.

Hebrew Adam arranged for the other two opposing teams to enter the gravity chamber first, where they would battle in pairs under double gravity. The members of those two teams entered without saying a word.

At this point, everyone took out their weapons. Su Forty-Three wielded a long sword with a relatively long blade, while Tino Venamoinen used a thick-backed broadsword, clearly meant for someone with considerable strength.

Tamaki Kazia appeared a bit shy, but surprisingly, his weapon was a heavy sword, which seemed only slightly lighter than Tino Venamoinen’s broadsword.

Ruo Manni’s eyes widened; Tamaki Kazia was indeed someone with a surprising duality. He looked gentle and shy on the outside, but in reality, he was a strength-type martial artist.

Sheila also looked a bit stunned; her weapon was a long sword with a narrow blade, and the entire sword was quite lightweight, making it very suitable for female users. Ruo Manni’s long sword was of a similar type.

However, when a willow leaf sword faced a heavy sword, Sheila was at a disadvantage in terms of weaponry.

But this was unavoidable. Among martial artists of the same level, females rarely compared favorably to males in terms of strength, so most women practiced lightness techniques to seek to counterbalance their lack of power with agility.

The lightness technique Ruo Manni learned also came from the battlefield, and she was quite adept at using it in the assessment competition. However, she had never actually sparred with anyone in reality.

Despite some differences in their levels, Su Forty-Three and the others were among the most outstanding martial artists in their first year at the prestigious Gus Empire academy, ranking high in overall martial power. The gaps between them were not significant, so the initial battles were evenly matched.

Ruo Manni had never had the opportunity to watch a live match. As she simultaneously opened the footage from the two gravity chambers, she was completely engrossed, feeling that she was gaining invaluable insights.

Although Ruo Manni had previously purchased some videos of arena matches online to enhance her practical skills through observation, she had never experienced the same emotional connection when watching her companions battle. Perhaps it was because they were her friends, and everyone’s abilities were similar, allowing her to relate to them more.

As she sat there mesmerized, she completely forgot about Hebrew Adam’s presence, let alone the fact that he had been watching her with a puzzled expression.

The first to lose was Sheila.

Sheila’s cultivation level was slightly lower than Tamaki Kazia’s, and her swordsmanship was not as refined as his. Additionally, Tamaki Kazia possessed great strength, making it difficult for Sheila’s lightness technique to fully restrain him.

In totality, while their cultivation levels seemed comparable, Tamaki Kazia’s overall martial power was significantly stronger than Sheila’s.

However, as soon as the two faced off, Ruo Manni immediately noticed that Sheila had a wealth of combat experience. She was aggressive and displayed a fierce determination in her attacks, seemingly disregarding everything else.

On the other hand, Tamaki Kazia appeared quite the opposite; his practical combat experience seemed minimal, and he even showed signs of being somewhat awkward at the beginning. Initially, he found himself being pressured by Sheila’s relentless onslaught.

If it weren’t for Tamaki Kazia’s advantage in weaponry and his considerable strength, which allowed him to steadily withstand Sheila’s furious attacks, he might have been defeated right from the start.

However, Tamaki Kazia managed to withstand it. Sheila’s fighting style was extremely exhausting, especially in a gravity environment, which was very unfriendly to her lightness technique. She soon found it difficult to maintain her rapid offensive.

As Tamaki Kazia steadily played to his strengths, he gradually gained the upper hand, and eventually, Sheila’s energy ran low, causing her weapon to be knocked from her hands.

Ruo Manni gained a lot from this match because Sheila’s weaknesses mirrored her own, and she lacked the practical combat experience that Sheila possessed. Most importantly, her opponent would be Hebrew Adam, who had comprehended the will to fight.

Ruo Manni glanced at Hebrew Adam, feeling a surge of battle intent in her eyes. With such a high-caliber sparring partner, she absolutely couldn’t miss the opportunity to sharpen her skills.

When Sheila and Tamaki Kazia emerged from the gravity chamber, Sheila looked utterly exhausted, needing Tamaki Kazia’s support to walk out.

Ruo Manni observed Tamaki Kazia; although he also showed signs of fatigue, his breath remained steady. She realized she had underestimated this guy.

Meanwhile, in the other gravity chamber, Su Forty-Three and Tino Venamoinen were engaged in a fiercely contested match, with no clear winner in sight.

Tino Venamoinen was very steady, wielding his large knife with immense force. Su Forty-Three rarely clashed directly with him; instead, he adeptly deflected and countered Tino’s attacks.

Ruo Manni felt that Su Forty-Three’s swordsmanship was both offensive and defensive, with the ability to use four ounces to deflect a thousand pounds. Although he couldn’t defeat Tino Venamoinen in a short time, if it came to a war of attrition, it would be hard to say who would win.

“If it weren’t for Hebrew Adam insisting that we fight under double gravity, these two might go at it for five or six hours without a clear winner,” she thought.

“They should be able to continue for another hour or two. Let’s take our turn,” Ruo Manni said enthusiastically to Hebrew Adam.

Hebrew Adam’s weapon, called a long knife in this world, resembled a Dao from Earth, being appropriately thick and possessing great lethality.

Against a fifth-level warrior, Ruo Manni knew her swordsmanship would be insufficient without hesitation; she quickly drew her long whip instead.

The two stood facing each other, and Hebrew Adam, ever the gentleman, gestured for Ruo Manni to make the first move.

Ruo Manni didn’t want to just stand there, so she swung her whip toward him. Hebrew Adam raised his knife to block.

The whip wrapped around Hebrew Adam’s large knife, and when Ruo Manni pulled, not only did she fail to move him, but she was also pulled toward him. She quickly sensed the opportunity, giving her whip a sharp shake to retract it just in time, narrowly avoiding Hebrew Adam’s attempt to grab the whip.

Ruo Manni hadn’t used her psychic power for this move, knowing that Hebrew Adam’s overall combat strength and practical ability were significantly stronger than hers. Therefore, she planned to adopt a strategy similar to Su Forty-Three’s and engage in a war of attrition.

Therefore, she planned to use her light-body technique and long whip to engage Hebrew Adam in a battle for a while before using her psychic power to wrap around the whip for an attack.

However, Hebrew Adam’s strength and speed were greater than Ruo Manni had anticipated, and his combat awareness was exceptionally strong. No matter how tricky Ruo Manni’s whip movements were, he could block them all.

At first, Ruo Manni had some confidence that she could hold her own against Hebrew Adam for a considerable time. But once they began, she realized her lack of combat experience and weak instinct for fighting left her mostly in a passive defensive position, unable to mount an effective counterattack.

Several times, Ruo Manni found herself pushed close by Hebrew Adam, having to use her psychic power to block and escape safely.

This was still with Hebrew Adam holding back; otherwise, her whip would have long since fallen into his hands.

From the very beginning, Hebrew Adam hadn’t used his full strength; instead, he was like a sparring partner, feeding her techniques. If he had gone all out, she would have been defeated in less than twenty exchanges.
