Calamity of Tomorrow

Chapter 559: 558 Position

Zheng Wentian's words, which were addressed to those celestial beings in the Heavenly Thunder Division who had grown up in Central City and were nurtured by resources supplied by the four major deities, were fundamentally inconceivable to them.

To them, Heaven was their biggest support, the soil they relied on to survive, the foundation that enabled them to dominate mortals.

Faced with Zheng Wentian's objections, silence reigned in the darkness, followed by the sounds of running and crying.

Zheng Wentian suddenly widened his eyes and saw two small figures crying and running out. He quickly caught them, "Han Xu, Han Ling, are you alright?"

With a sweep of his Primordial Spirit power, Zheng Wentian found that the two were just frightened and had no external injuries, which allowed him to breathe a sigh of relief.

Then he shouted into the darkness, "You said you wouldn't touch them if I came, what does this mean?"

A ghostly voice emerged from the darkness, filled with iciness and chill, "To deal with a traitor like you who forgets his roots and betrays trust, what credibility is there to speak of?"

Shadows fluttered around, and waves of Primordial Spirit power spread through the air, "Zheng Wentian, we are here to exact heavenly justice today and properly teach you a lesson."

In Zheng Wentian's eyes, it was clear that the celestial beings had been deceived by the gods, raised like pigs along with human compatriots, and that uniting to fight for agency and making gods acknowledge humanity to elevate their status was the only way to escape their current awkward predicament of being neither here nor there.

Even if this process meant losing the benefits bestowed by Heaven, the loss of various cultivation resources provided by the gods, as long as it enabled celestial beings to truly stand up and become a part of humanity with autonomy, it was all worth it. In Zheng Wentian's view, that was the sustainable path.

But in the eyes of the celestial beings before him, Zheng Wentian was completely ungrateful and disloyal. He had betrayed the Heaven that had nourished and trained him from childhood, betrayed the companions he had grown up with, and sided with the ruled mortals, which infuriated, scorned, and disdained them.

Zheng Wentian sensed the dangerous air around him, opened his mouth, and truly wanted to reveal the truth he knew, but he understood he could not do so.

On one hand, he had no evidence, and under these circumstances, the others would unlikely believe him; on the other, if Zi Yang True Monarch and others knew what he was doing, his situation would become even more dangerous.

Thus, at that moment, Zheng Wentian abruptly picked up his younger brother and sister, turned around, and his Primordial Spirit power burst forth explosively, as he fled backwards.

He could accept being punished himself, but since the current situation could possibly involve attack on his siblings, he chose to escape.

Shadows in the darkness followed him, and cold voices continually reached Zheng Wentian's ears.

"Can you escape?"

"This place is full of our people."

"What about the mortals with you? Can they protect you?"

Boom! A fire dragon burst forth directly in front of Zheng Wentian, who narrowly avoided it, followed by a wave of Sword Qi descending from the sky, slicing the ground beneath Zheng Wentian's feet.

Bang! Zheng Wentian resisted the Sword Qi with his Primordial Spirit power and dodged to the side.

He frantically fled, feeling people all around him in the darkness, constantly casting their magic to force him back but not pursuing him, playing with him as if he were a mouse in a cat's game.

Zheng Wentian only felt himself constantly escaping, constantly dodging, his Primordial Spirit power and physical energy continually being depleted, yet he could never leave the construction site before his eyes.

"An Array? Was the entire construction site enveloped by a prearranged Array?"

In the darkness, a sense of despair flashed through Zheng Wentian's eyes; suddenly, his legs gave way, and he collapsed to the ground with a thump, his siblings also falling to the ground with him.

Amidst heavy panting, Zheng Wentian felt he had reached his limit. In the darkness, about a dozen figures appeared like a pack of wolves and slowly approached him.

The leading long-haired youth slowly walked out, coldly looking at Zheng Wentian before him. Next to him was another short-haired girl. In the dark behind them, more than a dozen others lingered.

Zheng Wentian gritted his teeth and said, "Hai Yi? Xiang Tong? Is that you? Where is Xiang Haocu?"

The long-haired youth, Hai Yi, coldly said, "Big Brother Xiang told us to leave you be, to let you despair on your own."

The girl referred to as Xiang Tong coolly said, "Zheng Wentian, Big Brother Xiang is magnanimous and can let you off, but we can't stand seeing the actions of a traitor like you. Today, it was us who lured you out to teach you a lesson."

Zheng Wentian's face darkened, "Let my brother and sister go; you can do whatever you want with me."

Someone coldly snickered, "Don't let any of them go."

Xiang Tong scoffed, "It's none of our business whatever else you do, but betraying Heaven and conspiring with mortals, that cannot be tolerated."

Hai Yi coldly said, "Zheng Wentian, I'm giving you one last chance, call Zhou Bai here, and we will let you go today."

Zheng Wentian glanced slightly, noticing the people behind them. They were unmistakably some of the celestial beings who had clashed with Zhou Bai on the Heavenly Imperial Platform the day before yesterday.

Seeing the unwillingness and resentment in their eyes, Zheng Wentian suddenly understood, smiled bitterly, and shook his head, 'They don't just hate me… they also hate Zhou Bai…'

He bitterly said, "Seeing the mortals you once despised surpassing you, does it feel unbearable?"

Seeing several people's expressions drastically change, Zheng Wentian shook his head and said, "You remind me of my old self, the first time Zhou Bai defeated me, I also wanted to use underhanded tactics against him. If I couldn't match his talents, then physically destroy him. But that's just the act of a sore loser, you've been too arrogant for too long…"

"Shut up," Hai Yi said, "The Daluo Heaven Discourse is an honorable battle hosted by the gods from Heaven, how could it be taintedurchins?"

Zheng Wentian observed the opponents as if seeing his own past self, more than a decade of arrogant and domineering living, classing himself with the gods, regarding his fellow humans as commoners or slaves, unable to bear the blow to his pride when they exceeded him, filled with anger and jealousy, only wishing to destroy them.

This feeling was extremely familiar, but precisely because of this, Zheng Wentian felt powerless; it had taken him more than a year to change himself, and it was even more unlikely that the celestial beings before him could be changed in just a few words.

Yet he couldn't help but say, "What you don't understand is that it's you. The human race is our foundation. Relying on Heaven might be comfortable, but it will never be autonomous because the divine and us are different. Standing with humanity may be hard, but we can be our own masters…"
