CALAMITY : Legends Of The Chosen

Chapter 92: Chapter 79 - Red Drift

Scene: "The Speed of Condensed Might" – Shojiro's Red Shift Awakens

Setting:

A wide, open plateau outside an abandoned city sector. The sky burns orange from the late afternoon sun. Dust kicks up as the Chosen spread out, preparing to test their newly-awakened powers.

Shojiro stands shirtless, eyes scanning his HUD as data flickers erratically in red.

Shojiro (squinting at the screen)

"'Red Shift Protocol unlocked'? …What the hell does that mean?"

A sharp pulse runs through his arms. His muscle mass — usually bulky — suddenly tightens, compressing inward like coiled springs. Veins glow faintly red. Heat begins radiating off his skin.

[Max] (raising a brow)

"Yo, you good? You're steaming like a pressure cooker."

Leone (concerned)

"Shojiro, wait—your core output is spiking."

Shojiro breathes deeply, the air around him warping, like heatwaves dancing above asphalt. His body begins to vibrate slightly, as if straining to stay still.

Shojiro (quietly)

"…No time to think. Let's see what this thing can do."

In an instant—he vanishes.

A shockwave erupts where he stood, flattening the grass in a radius. The others barely register the motion before Shojiro reappears a hundred meters away, crouched and panting, skid marks scorched beneath his feet.

Karl (flat-toned)

"…Holy crap."

Zans (eyes wide)

"That—wasn't teleportation."

Zixy (blinking)

"He ran that? Through raw physical speed?"

Shojiro grins, steam curling off his body.

Shojiro

"Guess that's what Red Shift means."

He looks down at his hands — slightly trembling, bones vibrating, power barely contained.

Shojiro (half-laughing)

"It's like my whole body's one giant muscle fiber now. Condensed. Primed. Ready to snap forward."

Leone (impressed)

"That's… not just speed. That's overclocked strength converting into motion."

Shojiro wipes sweat from his brow, still glowing faintly red.

Scene: "Red Shift – The First Overload"

Setting:

A barren salt flat stretching under an orange dusk. The Chosen spread out for testing — dust, silence, and a few cautious side-eyes as Shojiro crouches, shirt already off, veins glowing faint red.

His HUD buzzes erratically, flashing new subroutines:

Muscle Condensation – ACTIVE

Muscle Reconfiguration – ACTIVE

Ligament Drift – ACTIVE

Torque Pulse Valve – ACTIVE

Soma Sovereign Core – SYNCED

Warning: Cellular Overheating Imminent

Shojiro (grinning as he reads the alerts)

"…This feels illegal."

He steps forward. His body visibly shrinks, not from weakness but from hyper-compaction — muscles tightening like coiled cabling, tendons repositioning in real-time under his skin. Every fiber, every joint, every ligament screams with perfect biomechanical tension.

Steam vents from his back. His legs begin vibrating violently. The very ground beneath him cracks.

Zixy (wide-eyed)

"What the hell is he doing—folding into himself?"

Karl (snapping open a scanner)

"Wait—he's building torque in his bones. Like a railgun charging up."

Shojiro narrows his eyes at a distant boulder five kilometers away.

Shojiro

"Alright, baby… let's break the sky."

He growls, slams his foot down—

"SOMA DRIVE: RED SHIFT — ONE POINT COLLAPSE."

A deafening thunderclap rips the air apart.

Shojiro becomes a blood-red streak, firing across the salt flats so fast the sound comes seconds later. Dust explodes behind him in a perfect line of destruction. Space itself seems to bend.

The boulder in the distance? Gone. Pulverized.

Shojiro reappears mid-skid, feet digging trenches in the earth, shirt completely disintegrated, body steaming, skin cracked with recoil veins glowing amber.

He pants—one knee down, arms trembling.

Zans (whispers)

"…He just broke causality."

Leone (blinking in awe)

"Shojiro… you just moved faster than sound, faster than thought—faster than light."

Shojiro (breathing heavy, grinning)

"One direction. One shot. Never again… unless I wanna detonate."

He laughs and collapses backward, smiling like a man who just slapped God in the face and got away with it.

Scene: "Before Sunrise" — Shojiro Breaks the Final Lock

Location: Open grassland at the edge of the Nevada region

Time: 3:43 AM

Weather: Cold. Moonlit. Breezeless.

Shojiro stood alone beneath the stars, body steaming, every breath like a puff of smoke in the dry night air. Around him, the grass was scorched in spirals — the aftermath of his countless failed bursts.

His arms trembled. His legs were shaking.

He'd already triggered Red Shift seventeen times tonight.

Every time ended the same way.

A straight burst. A collapsed form. A body that couldn't steer.

Shojiro wiped blood from his lip, breathing ragged.

He stared at the small pile of shredded shirts behind him — casualties of muscle detonation.

Shojiro (low voice): "…Still not good enough."

He cracked his neck. Then his knuckles.

Then he dug deep — into that place inside him that had been reborn 50 times over.

And then… he remembered something his body shouldn't know.

Myofibril Dominion – [Unlocked]

Sarcomere Splicing – [Unlocked]

Subconscious Directive: "Do not protect the body. Evolve it."

Shojiro dropped into a stance.

His calves pulsed. His spine tensed.

His chest inflated with Soma-induced air pressure.

And this time… he didn't brace for damage.

He welcomed it.

Shojiro: "Come on. Break me. And build something better."

Suddenly, his muscles twisted inward, spiraling in unnatural torque.

Ligaments unwound. Bones vibrated. Every inch of him screamed.

Then —

RED SHIFTING

A flash.

A shockwave.

But no crash.

Shojiro curved mid-air — angling his momentum upward, then snapped right, then spiraled in a crescent arc above the field.

He was laughing. Crying. Bleeding.

But he was steering.

From below, Karl's HUD pinged violently.

The others stirred from their tents.

Zixy opened one eye, muttering, "The hell's that noise?"

In the sky — a blazing trail of red light danced like a comet. It sliced through the air in serpentine arcs, impossible angles, loop-de-loops — faster than the eye could track.

Shojiro's voice echoed from the heavens:

Shojiro (ecstatic): "HAHAHA — I'M TURNING!! I'M FREAKING TURNING!!"

He landed with a heavy BOOM, digging trenches with his feet.

The grass caught fire in a ring around him.

Shojiro stood panting, eyes wide, muscles humming.

His skin shimmered with residual Soma pulse.

Shojiro (whispering): "…I can move. I can choose."

He looked up.

The sun was just beginning to rise.

Shojiro (grinning): "I'm not just fast anymore.

I'm free."
