CALAMITY : Legends Of The Chosen

Chapter 91: Chapter 78 - Rediscovery

Scene 1: "System Update: 50 Lives Later"

Setting:

The Chosen lie scattered across a grassy plain just beyond the Maze's threshold. The sky is pale blue, unfamiliar — real sunlight warms their skin for the first time in over a month. A breeze brushes over them gently, like the world itself exhaling.

Shojiro blinks first, groaning as he pushes himself up.

Nearby, Leone rolls onto her side, coughing softly.

One by one, the others stir — weak, disoriented, silent.

Then—

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

Each of their HUDs activate simultaneously — pulsing with radiant glyphs, fragmented text, and distorted voice logs.

"EXPERIENCE ARCHIVE LOCATED."

"MAZE_OF_ANGELS.SYS: INSTABILITY DETECTED."

"SYNCHRONIZATION SUCCESSFUL — UNLOCKING SUBLIMATED ABILITIES."

[You have died 50 times. You have learned.]

Zans groans, shielding his eyes from the HUD's glare.

Zixy's puppet twitches on her shoulder like it's waking up too.

Karl sits up straight, mechanical irises flickering.

Karl (low, confused):

"What… the hell is this? My interface wasn't even tracking the Maze."

Suddenly, bright red text flashes across all their displays:

NEW ABILITIES UNLOCKED

DATA COMPILED FROM 50 RECURSIVE DEATHS

[MEMORY LOGS — LOCKED]

[TRAUMA LAYERS — PRESERVED]

[COMBAT INSTINCTS — ENHANCED]

Shojiro staggers upright, blinking at the unfamiliar words hovering in front of him.

Shojiro (groggy):

"I don't remember anything… but my body does. I feel… wired. Ready."

Max sits up, arms resting over his knees.

Lightning crackles faintly along his fingertips.

Max (flat):

"Feels like I've already fought the final boss. Fifty times."

Leone rubs her temples, her violet chains flickering in and out of phase.

Leone (softly):

"Why does it hurt to think?"

Enme winces as her halo of seals spins behind her, out of sync.

Enme (hollow):

"It's like something's missing. Like I left a part of myself behind…"

Alex stands at a distance, arms folded, eyes half-lidded.

Alex (quiet):

"We did leave something behind."

She doesn't elaborate.

Zixy hums eerily, tracing a line of thread between her fingers.

Zixy (smiling faintly):

"I don't remember dying… but my hands do."

Suddenly — Shojiro's HUD pings.

▸ [Ability Registered: "Muscle Condensation: Red Shift"]

▸ [Unlocked via: Death 14, Death 27, Death 39]

▸ [Classification: Adaptive Combat Mutation]

The others begin getting pinged too — notifications rolling in faster than they can read.

Everyone freezes.

No one remembers the deaths.

But every one of them feels like something inside them has changed forever.

Karl (calm, but shaken):

"Let's not panic. If we've got new tricks, we test them. Run diagnostics. Verify function."

Shojiro, still staring at his fists, nods slowly.

Shojiro (grim):

"Yeah. If we survived that… we better learn what we came back with."

Scene 1.5 – "Why Am I Healing?"

Setting:

A windswept field just beyond a warped clearing. The portal behind them flickers closed — a new dawn rising on a strange, unfamiliar world.

Shojiro is the first to groan and sit up.

But the first thing he notices isn't the air.

It's the faint scar wrapped along his ribs — a scar he doesn't remember getting.

Shojiro (frowning):

"...Was this always here?"

He checks the other side of his chest. Another. Smaller. Deep.

Karl stretches, yawning as his HUD flickers blue, but stops halfway through.

Karl:

"…Okay, what the hell?"

His mechanical fingers are shaking — not from pain, but from confusion. His nanite readout shows massive post-trauma healing, old fractures, tissue regrowth.

But he's been in perfect condition.

Max, shirtless and laying back on the grass, runs a hand down his chest.

Max:

"Yo… did I get stabbed while asleep? This scar looks fresh."

Leone (sitting up slowly):

"Why does my body feel like I've been run over by a train… fifty times?"

One by one, they notice the same things.

— Deep, perfectly healed wounds.

— Strange phantom pains in limbs they've never injured.

— Bruises, cuts, and faint marks of trauma their brains can't explain.

Even Alex, eyes distant, runs her fingers through her hair and mutters:

Alex:

"My temple's… cracked. Not bleeding. But I feel like something hit me. Hard."

Zans rolls his neck, frowning.

Zans:

"I don't remember fighting. But my whole body feels like I did."

Enme lifts her fingers to her throat and winces.

Enme (softly):

"Why… does my voice feel like it was gone for years?"

Morgz, dead silent, lifts his shirt to see five bullet-sized scars in his chest. He doesn't even blink.

Morgz:

"Okay, did anyone else forget an entire war?"

No one answers.

Because none of them remember anything.

Their HUDs flash faintly again — registering new skills. New power branches. Unlocked forms.

But the origin is blank.

Just…

??? – Unretrievable Log

Source: UNKNOWN.

Zixy's eyes flash a faint spectral blue as she trails her fingers through the air, her voice low and calm, almost amused.

Zixy:

"Wounds forgotten, yet power remembered. Memories are tricky things — sometimes they hide what you need most.

Maybe our bodies keep score when our minds refuse to."

Karl (quietly):

"Something happened to us."

Shojiro (gritting his teeth):

"And we don't even know what."

They exchange looks.

Confused. Frustrated. Changed.

But they say nothing more.

Because how can you speak about something your mind refuses to remember?

Scene — "Unconscious Reactions & Awkward Compliments"

The Chosen were gathering in a clearing, ready to push their limits and test these new abilities flashing in their HUDs. Energy crackled lightly around them, anticipation thick in the air.

Suddenly, Zans' knees buckled. His body dropped to the ground like a stone.

Shojiro groaned, clutching his chest, staggering before collapsing beside him.

Karl (alarmed):

"Zans! Shojiro! What's wrong?!"

Alex (hovering down quickly):

"Blood loss… but how? They should've healed."

Leone (worried):

"Something's etched deep inside them… memories or trauma that their brains can't forget, even if they don't consciously remember."

Morgz (frowning):

"Wait, what kind of trauma?"

Cut to Zans' POV:

A sudden flash — the vivid image of Enme, naked, bathing in a serene pond. His mind freezes, heart pounding from the unexpected intimacy.

Then Shojiro's flash:

Leone, in a rare moment of vulnerability, removing her armor — skin glowing softly under the moonlight.

Back to present:

Zans, eyes half open, hears a faint whistle. Kuro's shadow stretches beside him, playful.

Kuro (whispering teasingly):

"She's got a killer figure, huh?"

Zans smirks, whispering back:

Zans:

"Yeah… she's something else."

Nearby, Enme, adjusting her gear, hears the whistles and chuckles softly.

Enme (without turning):

"Thanks, I guess." thumbs up

Shojiro wakes groaning, rubbing his temples.

Shojiro (groaning):

"I swear… I'm seeing things that'll haunt me forever."

Leone (teasing):

"Like what? Me?"

Shojiro just glares but can't stop the faint smile tugging at his lips.

Karl (checking their vitals):

"We need to keep their trauma under control if we want them in fighting shape."

The team shares a brief laugh, tension easing — but everyone knew this was just the start of their new journey.
