Ryan, equally drained, nodded in agreement. As they browsed the greasy delights, James cut to the chase. "Alright, let's get down to business. Did you manage to find anything useful about the online scam?"
Ryan shook his head, his frustration evident. "Not much. I dug through online forums and news articles, but it's all pretty vague. These scammers are good at covering their tracks."
James sighed, flipping through the menu with less enthusiasm. "There has to be a pattern somewhere. Did any of the victims mention a specific website?"
A spark of recognition flickered in Ryan's eyes. "Now that you mention it, yeah! Most of them said they bought the stuff from this website called secondowner.com."
A faint clink echoed as James slammed his menu down on the table, startling Ryan. "secondowner.com? That explains everything!"
Ryan, confused, raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean? I barely even know the website."
James leaned forward, a newfound determination in his voice. "secondowner.com is notorious for being a haven for online scammers. It's a platform where people sell used items, but it's also crawling with bad actors. Remember that news report a few months back about a nationwide counterfeit electronics ring operating through that same website?"
Recognition dawned on Ryan's face. "Yeah, I remember! But how does that help us?"
"It helps because it narrows our search," James explained, a glint in his eye. "If most of the scams are happening on secondowner.com, then that's where we should focus our investigation."
"But how do we find the scammer amongst thousands of users?" Ryan asked, his initial excitement dampened by the sheer scale of the problem.
James smirked, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Leave that to me. I have a few ideas..."
As the waiter approached their table, taking their order, James' mind was already racing. "I'll place an order on that website," he announced, pulling out his phone. Ryan raised an eyebrow, a mix of curiosity and concern evident in his eyes.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Ryan asked, his voice laced with doubt. "What if you get scammed too?"
James grinned confidently. "That's the whole point, isn't it? We need to get close to them to understand how they operate."
Ryan still looked hesitant, but he nodded reluctantly. "Just be careful," he warned.
James logged into secondowner.com, his fingers flying across the touchscreen. The website was a chaotic mess, filled with countless listings for everything imaginable. Ryan suggested, "Maybe we should order something reasonable, just in case this whole thing blows up in our faces."
James nodded, a determined glint in his eye. "Leave that to me. I have a few ideas..."
