Chapter 1225: The Sweden Magus
-----
Olivia Coyett, a Sweden Magus whose birthright has given her the Arts of Runic Engravement. She was born a magician unlike us, and she has worked in the supernatural world her entire life. A renowned member of the Clock Tower, she's an Academic Professor that teaches students the mysterious Runic Arts.
Despite being this her family's specialization, they are nor secretive about them and openly teach them to any other Magus learning the ropes.
The Clock Tower, a mysterious "Academy" or "Branch" or something, as I was imagining, that belonged to something much greater. Europe's "Magician's Association", something I've never been introduced into as of now, and which I'm deathly curious about.
"We set up a fort in here as it was closest to the Large Monster Nest," she said. "Also, I used {Territory Expansion} by generating a Runic Formation. So fear not, the monsters are made to believe their world has become smaller, so they're constantly circling their own nest.
We were originally planning to take them down slowly like this, or to starve them to death once they're unable to find any more food. But if you're here, then things become easier."
"I see… Wait, you can just make monsters think their world is smaller?" I wondered. "What sort of magic is that, Miss Olivia?"
"Some simple Perception Alteration Magic," she said. "It's weak on its own, but when amplified using Runic Formations, the true specialization and secret technique of my family, it becomes an amazingly useful tool to keep creatures at bay. It works well on monsters as they lack as much perception and intelligence as us. But most of the time, it won't work well on other magicians or awakened."
"Amazing…" I said. "There's so much magic I have yet to learn about."
"Indeed! You're all but little chicks in this supernatural world of Magus," giggled Olivia. "But don't worry, I will treat you well while I stay in here. Now, you had asked about the Clock Tower, right? I can't believe Rose never told you about the Magician's Association. She's an honorary member."
"Wait, she's also a Magus?!" I asked.
"She only went to my classes for a single year, mostly so she could learn the basics of magic and how to respond to Magus attacks," Olivia giggled. "That girl has only one type of magic she's talented at, Blood Magic. As a Dhampir, such magic comes naturally from her, without needing incantations, or runes, or magic circles.
Originally from the Vatican and raised as a Vampire Hunter with their same powers but without their weaknesses, that girl has a long history, and is much older than she looks and acts like."
"I see… You must know her quite well, Miss Olivia," I said.
"Why yes, I've known her since I started part-timing in SWORD," she smiled. "You must be wondering why I'm in Canada, so far from home. But well, the pay is actually really good. The New World has a severe lack of proper magicians after all, so they were seeking to import some to help them out on supernatural cases since the 50s, and so I joined!"
Wait, since the 50s?
How old is she…?
"Anyways, as I was going to explain, the Magician's Association is a group of Magus formed thousands of years ago by the first Magus, descendants of Babel," said Olivia. "I have studied most of this Ancient Lore, but I doubt you want all the details, and we don't have the time to go in details either.
The Magician's Association is an international, self-preservative and self-defense organization formed by Magus for the purpose of controlling, concealing, and developing Magic!"
"Oooh!" I nodded.
"The Clock Tower is part of the first branch of the association, located in London," she explained. "Right in the London's British Museum. It hosts not only a large quantity of Academic Facilities, and it is where most of the young magicians all over Europe come to learn, but it is also the headquarters to the organization, divided into many branches! I belong to the Academic Branch, a Professor.
But there are Detective, Archeologist, Historical Research, Biologist, Alchemist, and Scientific Branches as well… And a few more I might have forgotten, there are too many."
"So much!" I said.
"Why yes! Are you interested in joining the Magician's Association, Elayne? I could perhaps vouch for you," said Olivia. "Your younglings are all very talented as well. I believe they could learn many new things in the Academic Branch."
"Huh? A real Magic School?" Elena was shocked. "I-I never imagined such a thing…"
"I think I would need to… Um, think before joining," Elisa said.
"I doubt it's free anyways, how much does it cost, auntie?" wondered Anna.
"Ah! Well, it's certainly not cheap. Usually an Academic Year is… twenty… thirty, thirty million dollars? Well, that's pocket change, right?" giggled the woman.
That's not pocket change at all!
Noticing our horrified faces, Olivia giggled.
"Well, if you have exceptional talents, it is possible to gain a scholarship after undergoing a special exam," she said. "Well, if you ever feel like applying, I can help."
She suddenly handed me a magic card that appeared in front of me, flying with little paper wings resembling butterfly wings.
It said her name, number, branch association, everything, with even a small picture of her.
Stay connected via empire
"That is my business card, feel free to call me whenever you need something," she smiled. "Now! Here we are, the big nest!"
She spread her arms, suddenly opening a breach in her Runic Formation, revealing what resembled a small canyon in the middle of the forest surrounding the city.
"This certainly wasn't here before!" I gasped.
"Indeed! These monsters are quite destructive," said Olivia. "In the span of a few weeks they had shaped the landscape to their liking, draining all resources and mana, they're troublesome creatures indeed. Look, there's one coming here right this instant."
"Huh?"
"SHIEEEEEHHH!!!"
A car-sized black colored ant hissed at us furiously, clicking its giant, metallic jaws!
