Chapter 211: Entrance Exam
Luna met her brother that night. She stealthily asked some questions about Oliver and verified that most of what Oliver said was true before finally believing him.
At the same time, Oliver went back home and slept peacefully. This time, he was nice enough to give the sofa to his brother and sleep in his room.
Like that, some more days passed by.
Soon, it was October.
The written test of the hero academy entrance exam was delayed three times because of a monster attack in nearby cities.
After the situation cooled down, the test was scheduled to be conducted today.
Oliver drove a minivan and went towards Root's house. Along the way, he also picked up two other people.
Finally, after thirty minutes, he reached his destination.
Root came out of the house just as the car screeched to a halt.
He slung a backpack over his shoulder and walked to the car. Behind him, two heads peeked out and waved.
"Uncles, do your best." The childish voice of Root's niece came from behind him.
The little girl was waving her hand and fist-bumping the air as she said that while hugging her mother's leg.
Oliver smiled, watching it.
At the same time, the little girl noticed Oliver.
"UNCLE Ollie, YOU TOO." She shouted.
"I DON'T RELY ON LUCK, LITTLE GIRL," Oliver shouted back.
For the past few days, Oliver had gone to Root's house, bringing ice cream with him almost every time. That's how his relationship with the little fan improved. Now, both of them could be considered friends and fellow ice cream enjoyers.
"Bring kiwi-flavoured ice cream next time." She hopped a few meters out of the house and said.
Oliver smiled.
"For sure." He gave an exaggerated thumbs-up.
The little girl giggled and went back to the house, only to get her ears pinched by her mom.
"Ou…" She screamed as she was pulled inside by her mother.
Oliver chuckled and faced Root, standing next to him.
"Get on."
Root looked at him weirdly. "You are spoiling her." He mumbled as he pulled open the door.
Instantly, he noticed two people sitting behind.
"Oh! Let me introduce you. This is Lunatic and her brother, the bad teleporter. They are coming along to take the test with you."
"Eh?"
There was no need for an introduction.
Root knew the people. He had hacked into their devices days before and knew everything about them.
But still, he didn't know why Luna had decided to partake in the exam.
There was no age limit restricting who could take the Hero Academy entrance test. But even then, why would someone who spent more than a year in a coma rush to take the exam?
He turned to eye Oliver.
Oliver instantly knew what he was thinking.
He shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't know. That's why I promoted her from Luna to Lunantic."
"Oliver, are you saying my sister is crazy?" Leon interjected and asked.
Oliver glanced over and simply nodded.
Luna smiled, embarrassed.
Leon could only stare.
"This is the second Lunatic; there is also another one. We might see her during the second test." Oliver motioned for Root to get in as he spoke.
Once Root got in, he pressed the accelerator.
"I have a bad feeling about this." He mumbled as the car drove forward.
—
A few minutes later, they reached East High School, the examination centre.
The entire exam was computerised, and the candidates had to answer the multiple-choice questions.
It would take three hours for the exam to end.
Oliver dropped off Root, Leon and Luna in front of the school and decided to go to a nearby internet cafe.
To kill some time, he planned to buy some ice cream and play High Craft.
As he walked through the crowd near the school gate, he noticed many familiar faces pass by. The names of the people were hard to remember, but he knew they were once his classmates.
He avoided their gaze and blended into the crowd.
Despite them being classmates, he had no real relationship with them. They were just passersby he met in life.
There was no reason to make any contact or even speak.
'Nice not meeting them,' he commented and walked a few more meters forward.
That's when he noticed another familiar face walking through the crowd.
It was none other than…
"Woojin?" Oliver called out.
Woojin, as if he had heard the voice of the Grim Reaper, shivered. Slowly, he turned his head to look behind him.
There, he saw the creature of his nightmares.
"It's Woojin. Nice meeting you here." Oliver promptly walked by and raised his hand for a handshake.
But he must have felt like Oliver was trying to hit him, so Woojin stepped back and avoided his hand. He was scared shitless at that moment.
"Golden fiend…" he muttered, dazed.
"Yes, brother-in-law."
Oliver smiled.
Woojin gulped.
Like everyone else, he had come to participate in the Hero Academy entrance exam. But never in his wildest dream did he think he would meet Oliver.
He wanted to turn back and run away quickly.
"Hey, how are you feeling these days? Did your injuries heal?"
"..." Woojin nodded like a hostage standing in front of a gun which was pointed at his head.
"Did you find who tried to poison me?"
"...."
Woojin shook his head.
"I think you should. After all, that person caused the misunderstanding and everything that happened…later."
When it was mentioned, a flicker of hatred passed over Woojin's face. The hatred was not directed at Oliver, but at the person who messed with him.
If there comes a day when he knew who did it, he would surely have his revenge, Woojin said to himself.
"Anyways, it's nice meeting you. Do your best in the exam." Oliver approached the young man and tapped him on the shoulder, then calmly walked away.
The soul returned to Woojin's body once Oliver left. He quickly weaved through the crowd and went into the school to avoid any further contact with the walking calamity.
