Chapter 16 - An Emergency Food Promotions
The dried meat my father had ordered had entered Alice and Alyssa's storage magic box. With their ability to master the storage magic box properly, it will put the dried meat my father ordered into a safe place.
The magic chant performed by Alice and Alyssa made the cold basement room seem spacious after the dried meat, piled high to the top, was placed into their magic storage box.
"Alice..."
"Alyssa..."
"You girls did a great job," I said, giving Alice and Alyssa a few compliments in this cold basement.
Caress...
Caress...
After the dried meat stored in the basement disappeared into Alice and Alyssa's magic storage box, I stroked their hair as a reward for their hard work.
Even though I could put the dried meat into my magic storage box, it would be better if a magical genius stepped in, on this matter.
I want to do things related to magical abilities, but I feel that my ability to control magic should be kept well before the military expedition is carried out.
As much as possible, I want to restrain myself from using my magical abilities.
My caress of Alice and Alyssa's hair ended quickly, so we started walking upstairs.
As I walked towards the upper floor, which was connected to the ground floor of the restaurant, I could see some dried meat which had been wrapped well and in large quantities.
It makes me wonder about this dried meat.
Judging by the sheer quantity, it wasn't meat that would be consumed and finished anytime soon.
"You all prepared for this well, huh, even though the town you live in has become a ghost town that looks uninhabited," said Alyssa with her gaze fixed on the pile of dried meat that I was also looking at.
It seemed that Alyssa realized something and said something like that.
"Yes, we are doing something to survive during the war season between the nobles, Alyssa-sama," Helena replied with her eyes fixed on the wild boar meat that was still wet and not yet completely dry.
"I'm sorry to put you in such a vulnerable and tense situation," Alyssa said as if she understood what the people who chose to survive inside Marquess Rommel's territory were preparing for.
"About that… Alyssa-sama should not worry too much about this. We have received a notification letter from Marquess Rommel to evacuate to a safe place or gather at a safe refuge point before Marquess Rommel's Main Knight Division moves towards a strategic defense points."
"Is that so? Is the Adventurer's Guild also involved in this?"
"Yes, we were a little involved in the process of build a basement that looked like a meat storage basement, but was formed as a basement used as a temporary residence. If I'm not mistaken... it was called... Uuhh—" Helena seemed confused by the words she wanted to say.
Helena's paused words made Alice and Alyssa curious.
Tap...
Tap...
I understood the words Helena wanted to say and tried to help her, "Bunker..."
With my gentle words, I tried to give Helena a hint about the words that were hard for her to remember.
"Yes, Bunker! That's it! You seem to have figured this one out, Lily-sama," Helena said to complete the words she found difficult to say.
"I only have a rough understanding of the plan and designed the blueprint without overseeing the actual construction process. Is it working properly?" I asked Helena, who seemed to know about Marquess Rommel's secret plan, in case something bad happened to one of the towns within Marquess Rommel's territory.
The plan to build this Bunker was once expressed by my father, who was worried about a town in the borders enemy territory or a forest that is still actively inhabited by wild monsters.
One of the magic books written by a Great Hero once mentioned his understanding of an underground building that was similar to a basement, but was used as a temporary shelter by civilians who received emergency warnings of air raids.
I, who didn't know what the Great Hero had written, asked my Goddess and got a new term called Bunker.
Thanks to my Goddess's convoluted and difficult-to-understand explanations, I designed an underground building deep enough to house several townspeople in the event of a bandit attack or a wild monster invasion.
"Yes, it has been completed under the Main Church of this town. Whether it is a coincidence or not, Princess Anastasia and the Saintess named Myoko Hana helped build the Bunker that is located under the Main Church of this town," said Helena, which made me feel confused by the big changes that have happened to this town.
After the Marquess Rommel family went on vacation and returned unprepared for a traditional wartime royal event, I was surprised by the massive development of the plans my father had drawn up during the family vacation.
I didn't know my father would be this great.
Will I be able to do something big like this in the future?
Making a solid plan when an uncertain future occurs?
It seems like I still have a lot to learn as a Matriarch who will replace my father in the future.
"Phew... this is really beyond my expectations," I grumbled as I stepped the stairs leading to the ground floor of the restaurant.
When I was on the ground floor of the restaurant and came out of a room connected to the basement entrance, I saw the figure of a strange woman I knew.
Without hiding her face and sitting casually at one of the restaurant tables, she seemed to glance at me to say a word silently.
The movement of her lips seemed to say, "Leave it to me to protect this place from those fools who try to attack from the shadows, Lily-sama."
Nod...
I know that I cannot protect this place without the help of others, and I feel grateful when there is help given directly to me.
Right beside the girl, I could see several other girls who seemed to have abilities not much different from hers.
A group of high-ranking adventurers is guarding the town from a secret attack by the opposition noble faction and the noble faction that supports the royal family, or more precisely, the figures that support the former Crown Prince.
The old woman and the young man had returned to the cashier's desk to serve some customers who had been waiting at the dining table.
Before the young man left to give the menu, I stopped him to give something to a group of high-ranking parties sent directly by Duchess Kaori.
"Wait a minute," I said to the young man as I opened my magic storage box to take out some emergency food that I had bought from the Yurification Shop.
Pluk...
Plok...
Plop...
Pam...
I also took out some canned food that is used as emergency food that can keep someone full for a day.
"I want to do a food promotion for them, is that okay?" I asked the young man and the old woman in front of me for permission.
I know that my actions will look impolite when I offer my food to a restaurant that also sells food.
Several piles of canned food were on the cashier's desk, making the old woman and the young man curious.
"Lily-sama, is this the emergency food you provided when Marquess Rommel's territory was attacked by a rare monster called the Golden King Bear?" Helena asked as she picked up one of the cans containing the heavy food.
"Yes, this is the food I once gave to the adventurers who joined the Golden King Bear hunting operation," I replied to Helena's question.
"Ah, so this is the food that those visiting adventurers often complain about."
"Um, is there a problem with canned food like this, Helena?"
"You know, Lily-sama. Some adventurers from the Royal Capital who come to this Adventurer's Guild building often ask about the availability of this food and leave disappointed because this food is only used by Marquess Rommel's knights, right?" Helena said, asking me another question.
"Not really, this is just emergency food that is not for sale, even to the Knight Marquess Rommel himself."
"Eh? Didn't Lily-sama say that she wanted to promote this food to them?" Helena's gaze suddenly shifted to a group of adventurer parties who were sitting, waiting patiently.
"Yes, this is the perfect food promotion to repay the loyalty of those who entrusted their lives to Marquess Rommel's leadership," I replied with a snap of my fingers.
Snap...
Crack...
Crack...
When I snapped my fingers, a magic circle connected to my magic storage box opened and revealed a pile of emergency food stored in cans neatly arranged on the cashier's desk of this restaurant.
The pile of emergency food with various flavors surprised Helena.
"L-Lily-sama, isn't this..." Helenan's surprise made Alice, Alyssa, and Nimi laugh when they saw the pile of canned food in front of her.
The old woman and the young man were also surprised by the pile of canned food I had.
Besides the pile of canned food, I also took out some emergency cooking equipment ready for use at any time.
"Unlike the emergency canned food used by the adventurers participating in the Golden King Bear hunting operation, this one has several improvements in quality and taste. While previously a person wouldn't feel hungry for half a day, this one will make a person not feel hungry for the next day. Isn't that perfect for the current emergency, Helena?" I said while explaining something to Helena and making myself look like a chatty noblewoman.
Tap...
Tap...
While I was explaining something to Helena, I could hear the sound of footsteps approaching me.
"Please forgive my insolence in being curious about this. Is what you said true?" asked the woman who had attacked me with a sharp arrow earlier that morning.
"Yes, that's right. Would you like to try some emergency food that's exclusively available in Marquess Rommel's territory, which is facing so many problems like this?" I replied with a friendly smile.
The arrival of the girl who approached me made Alice and Alyssa immediately hug my arm as if to protect me from not doing something to the girl in front of me.
Helena, who saw this, just chuckled, and Nimi looked confused about what was happening.
