Chapter 3: Crossroads Of Fate

William's alarm shattered the silence, its piercing rings jolting him awake. He groggily reached over to silence it with a gentle tap. Pulling the blanket over his head, he tried to shake off the remnants of sleep, but soon, a sense of urgency gripped him, as if he had been awoken from a nightmare.

William sat bolt upright, tossing the blanket aside, and grabbed the clock beside him. The glowing digits read 8:03 a.m.

"I haven't slept this comfortably in an extremely long time," he thought aloud, "it really feels good... I almost forgot I have classes by 9:30 a.m. today."

With renewed energy, William sprang out of bed, quickly took his bath, and dressed up. Not long after, he headed out, reaching the entrance of Kings Way University. He made his way towards his classroom, where lectures awaited.

As the lengthy lecture finally drew to a close, the students erupted into a flurry of chatter, playful banter, and hasty exits. Williams, who had sat alone at the back corner of the class, slowly rose from his desk and checked his phone for the time: 1:00 p.m. With a deep breath, he walked out of the class, heading towards the university entrance.

His thoughts turned inward as he strolled. The operation team would be gathering soon, at 1:30 p.m., to discuss their plan of action. Yet, Williams couldn't shake off the growing unease within him. Why was he suddenly having second thoughts? Should he pull out while he still could? His youth and uncertain future flashed before him. Perhaps he should heed Uncle's advice and give time a chance to improve things.

A nagging question lingered: how could someone as naive and physically frail as him participate in a robbery? It seemed absurd. Williams couldn't help but wonder if he was kidding himself.

Williams' introspection was abruptly cut short when a sudden impact struck his head, jolting him back to reality. Clutching the throbbing spot with his hands, he glanced around, trying to locate the source of the pain. His eyes landed on a soda can lying on the ground in front of him, the apparent culprit.

Just then, a group of guys stepped forward, their faces twisted into malicious and mocking smiles. One of them took a step closer, his smirk even more contemptuous than the others.

"Look what we have here," he sneered.

"The infamous trash of Kings Way University. I often wonder how someone like you managed to gain admission to such a prestigious institution as ours."

Williams had grown all too familiar with the cruel taunts and bullying that plagued his days at Kings Way University. Despite his attempts to fight back, he only seemed to invite more beatings and ridicule. His weakness made him an easy target, especially for the privileged students who exploited their wealth and status to intimidate others.

As the group of guys mocked him, one of them spat on him, while another slapped his cheeks gently, their jeers and laughter piercing the air. Their leader, the youngest master of the influential Macho family, stood apart, a teasing smile spreading across his face.

A crowd of students had gathered, watching the spectacle with a mixture of amusement and disdain. They whispered to each other, their eyes gleaming with mockery, but none of them intervened to stop the bullying. Williams, resigned to his fate, stood silently, his eyes cast downward, as the humiliation continued.

Williams' eyes blazed with anger as he glared menacingly at Tony, the youngest master of the Macho family and the leader of the group bullying him. Tony's expression darkened, his irritation palpable, as he strode forward. The other guys parted to let him through, and Tony towered over Williams, his menacing gaze boring into him.

Tony's hands shot out, grabbing Williams by the hair as he bent down, his face inches from Williams'.

"Who do you think you are, daring to glare at me with such a filthy gaze, you kid?" Tony's words dripped with venom.

"Do you want to die?"

Williams' anger surged, his teeth clenched in rage, his fists balled and ready to strike. Just as he was about to confront Tony and his gang, a hand clamped down on his fist, holding it in place. Williams turned to see who had stopped him, and his eyes met Jay's, the friend he had called last night, who was also a student at Kings Way University.

Jay's gaze was intense as he leaned in close, whispering in Williams' ear.

"William, it's not worth the trouble. Remember who Tony is and his family's background. He's not someone we can afford to mess with. Plus, we have somewhere to be right now."

Williams, still seething with anger, struggled to rein in his emotions. Tony, however, remained unfazed by Jay's presence, his mocking expression unwavering.

"Ah, great, another unknown trash has come to defend the main trash character," Tony sneered, not even bothering to ask who Jay was.

The atmosphere erupted into laughter at Tony's taunt, but Jay's expression turned ferocious, his eyes blazing with a menacing intensity. He stepped forward, positioning himself toe-to-toe with Tony, as they sized each other up. The air was electric with tension, and for a moment, Tony faltered, taking a step back as he sensed the danger emanating from Jay.

Regaining his composure, Tony turned to his cohorts and signaled their retreat. As they backed away, Tony shot a parting glance at Williams, his voice dripping with malice.

"Consider today your lucky day, boy. Don't expect to be this fortunate next time."

As Tony and his gang disappeared into the distance, Jay and Williams watched them go, their faces etched with weary expressions.

Williams locked eyes with Jay, and with a silent understanding, he nodded timidly. Together, they turned and headed out of the university premises. As Williams trailed behind Jay to their designated meeting spot, his thoughts turned inward.

He couldn't help but wonder what had possessed him to consider withdrawing from everything. If he pulled out now, he would be forever looked down upon by people and society. He would never be able to rise to the top, never escape the harsh reality that had become his life.

The thought sent a surge of determination through him. He was ready to do anything possible to escape the grim fate that seemed to await him. Even if it meant putting his life on the line.

As they reached the entrance of an abandoned warehouse, they stepped inside, venturing into the dimly lit corridors. The air was thick with the scent of decay as they navigated the passageways, their footsteps echoing off the walls. As they approached an open room, a warm glow spilling from within, a voice cut through the silence.

"I don't believe we've been kept waiting for so long just because you're bringing some new guy to join the team," a muscular man with a scar above his right eye spoke up, his rough appearance and tone conveying annoyance.

Another member chimed in, "I'm really curious to see who's so important that we've been kept waiting for so long."

As Jay entered the open room, the designated meeting spot, he met the gaze of the scarred man, his expression displeased. His eyes then swept around the room, taking in the others scattered members who stood around a round table at its center. After a moment of silence, Jay spoke up.

"I'd like to introduce our new team member to you all."

Here's the edited version:

As Jay finished speaking, Williams stepped into the room, his anxiety and fear palpable. This was uncharted territory for him, and the people before him were downright intimidating. Despite his nerves, he attempted to compose himself, but his unease was evident to the seasoned criminals.

Williams took a deep breath and stepped forward, facing the gathered team members, who look at him with bewildered expressions.

"M-my name is William," he stuttered, "I'm a student at Kings Way University, and I'm really looking forward to working with you all."

The scared faced man also known by the code name Four, his face twisted in amusement, burst into laughter along with several other members at Williams' introduction. Still chuckling, Four managed to compose himself enough to speak, his tone dripping with mockery.

"Eight, where did you find this kid? I thought you were stupid enough already, but you've actually brought someone even more clueless than you. Hahahahah..."

Jay shot Four a menacing glare, as if he wanted to tear him apart, but Four didn't flinch. Instead, Jay's expression only fueled Four's ridicule. Emboldened, Four continued to mock Jay also know as Eight, his voice dripping with derision.

"I can't believe we've been kept waiting for so long, only for you to bring this...this kid in front of us," Four continued, his voice laced with disdain.

"What's he supposed to do with that frail, weak, and naive look of his? He's even foolish enough to share his real name and school. Doesn't he know that's a death wish? Fools really do flock together."

As the members continued their laughter, a female voice cut through the noise from the other side of the room. Six, her code name, gazed at Williams with a disapproving look.

"Eight, I'm really disappointed. I expected you to bring someone impressive, not...this."

Four, never one to miss an opportunity to mock Jay, chimed in, his voice dripping with malice.

"As I always say, you're truly worthless. Maybe that's why your parents abandoned you."

Four's words struck a nerve, and Jay's anger boiled over. He strode towards Four, grabbing his shirt with a tight grip, and jerking him upright. Jay's eyes blazed with a murderous intensity as he growled, "I dare you to repeat what you just said."
