Chapter 22: 23.The Magic Knight Entrance Exam – A Roar of Power and Bonds
Now magic knight entrance exam day.
The towering gates of the Magic Knight Entrance Exam grounds loomed before the hopefuls gathered, tension thick in the air. Among them stood Asta, Yuno, Noelle, Mimosa, Leo—and in the center of it all, surrounded by silence and distance, stood Grim Aragon. He was poised, arms folded, golden eyes half-lidded with boredom, his expression unreadable.
Everywhere he went, whispers followed. Everyone knew who he was—the boy with an otherworldly grimoire, an overwhelming mana presence, and a mystery no one could solve.
Even before the exam began, all the captains, including Wizard King Julius, had tried persuading him not to attend.
"You don't need to be here, Grim," Julius had said, smiling with a touch of concern. "You're already strong enough. Stronger than even most Magic Knights."
Yami had lit a cigarette and grunted, "Kid, you're like dropping a dragon into a chicken coop. You sure about this?"
Grim had only smirked. "It's not about what I need. It's about experience. Besides… it'll be fun."

The Entrance Exam Begins
As the announcer called for the beginning trials—broom flying, mana control, and magic creation—Grim aced every task effortlessly. During the broom test, while others struggled to hover, Grim didn't even sit. He floated with his arms behind his head, legs crossed, smirking.
Noelle, Leo, Mimosa, Asta, and Yuno watched him from the sides. They knew Grim was pretending to be cold, knew the truth.
"He's smiling again…" Leo muttered.
"He always acts distant but he just wants to show off," Noelle said with a huff, arms crossed but cheeks red.
Mimosa giggled. "He's always been like this. I think it's adorable."
Yuno, standing near Asta, clenched his fists. "He hasn't even looked at us once."
Asta nodded. "He's pretending, I know it. But I hate how I feel so small right now."
Great Sage's voice echoed in Grim's head, teasing. "Oh my, Master Grim. The glare from Yuno and Asta could burn holes. You gonna keep acting cool or finally greet your brothers?"
Grim smirked. "Let them stew. I want them to surpass their limits."
Great Sage laughed. "How noble… and annoying."

Combat Trials – Individual Duels
"Grim Aragon versus Ardon Sclair, son of House Sclair," the examiner called.
A haughty noble stepped forward, his grimoire glowing with wind-based magic.
"You think you can stand with nobles?" Ardon sneered.
Grim stepped into the ring without even opening his grimoire.
"Why don't you attack first?" Grim said lazily. "I'll give you three seconds."
"Insulting peasant!" Ardon yelled, summoning a massive wind blade.
But before the attack could land, Grim raised a single finger.
"Singularity Magic: Convergence."
A ripple in the air consumed the wind blade, folding it into nothingness. Then, Grim stepped forward and whispered:
"Collapse."
An invisible force flattened the entire battlefield, sending Ardon crashing to the ground, unconscious, with not a scratch on Grim.
The arena fell into stunned silence.
Grim tilted his head, cocky grin on his face. "Too easy. I was hoping for at least ten seconds."
Charlotte stared, eyes wide. "Unreal… his magic looks like conqueror's."
Yami scratched his head. "Damn show-off. Reminds me of me."
Charlotte blushed. "You wish. He's far more refined."
Yami smirked. "Oh? Is that a compliment?"
The captains collectively sighed. Jack grumbled, "Can you two flirt after the exam?"

Squad Selections
Each hopeful stood before the captains.
When Asta screamed his resolve, every squad stayed silent—except Yami, who smiled.
"You've got guts, brat. Welcome to the Black Bulls."
Yuno stood calmly, and all captains raised their hands—but he chose Golden Dawn.
Then came Grim.
Every captain raised their hand instantly—even William.
"You belong in Golden Dawn, Grim," William said. "Your power, your precision—it's what we need."
Patry, in disguise, narrowed his eyes from behind William's mask. Why not us? Why didn't he pick us?
Grim looked at all of them.
Then, he turned to Yami. "I like chaos. I like being loud. And I hate rules."
He walked to the Black Bulls.
"Guess I'm home."
The arena exploded with whispers.
"HE PICKED THE BLACK BULLS?!"
Patry's eye twitched.
Yami chuckled. "We'll get along just fine, kid."
Noelle stepped forward.
"I want to join the Black Bulls too."
Charlotte raised a brow. "You'd thrive in Blue Rose—"
"I made up my mind."
Asta and Noelle were now Grim's squadmates.
Leo joined Crimson Lions, proud and blazing.
Mimosa joined Golden Dawn, standing beside Yuno.

Final Reflections
Later, as the arena cleared, Nozel Silva stood in silence on a tower balcony.
That boy… he thought. He frightens me. Not for his power. But for the effect he has.
He remembered the way Noelle looked at Grim… and even Nebra. It was unnatural. Yandere-level devotion.
He's pulling them out of control. But… Nozel frowned. He's also the reason Noelle is finally mastering her power.
In the arena, Grim looked at Asta and Yuno, gave them a brief smile, then walked away.
Great Sage hummed. "You're still pretending to be cold. You know they're hurting, right?"
"I need them to get stronger," Grim said.
"Then be honest with them."
Grim paused. "One day. But not today."
As the sun set, Asta clenched his fists.
"I swear… I'll stand beside him again."
Yuno nodded. "And I'll surpass him."
The brothers had split paths.
But the fire they shared was far from gone.
Grim smiled faintly, eyes glowing.
"The road to the top starts now."
