Chapter 22: 22: The Banquet's Entrance
"Your Royal Highness, are you really sure that you can attend this banquet?" Mr George, Elvis's butler, sounded worried.
He stood behind Elvis, helping him bandage the injury he had obtained from the whipping he received that day. He had already applied the ointment for him.
Elvis was in obvious pain. He squeezed his face in pain, trying to bear the discomfort he was feeling from it all.
He was still ill, coupled with the punishment he had obtained "Don't worry, I'm fine" He only said.
Mr George was worried. He wanted to make Elvis take a rest. But it wasn't within his power. He didn't know how to help.
"And you're still sick.. what if you tell your mother the Queen, she could help..."
"Don't get her involved" Elvis muttered "Don't"
Mr George stared at Elvis in pity. He never liked involving anyone in whatever he went through. He always went through it alone.
And Mr George was witness to that.
Soon, the guard sent by the king walked into the room. "The King summons you to the royal banquet"
"I'll be there" Eden casually said as the guard left.
Mr George knew there was no way to stop him anymore.
"What about her...?" Elvis stared at Mr George after he was done applying the bandage for her "Is she coming?"
Mr George hesitated as he slowly nodded "I've already sent a carriage to bring her"
Elvis smiled. Something rare of him to do. But something he did only around people whom he liked.
"That's good then" Evie said "I'll go outside and wait for her arrival"
Mr George's eyes widened "But your dad will see the two of you together!"
"That's the point"
"....." Mr George was speechless.
"But... Your dad..."
"It's time I spoke up" Elvis cut him off "I've kept it in for a long time. I've kept it secret for awhile now. And my dad will never agree if I don't tell him at least"
"But he'll never even if you do. You two aren't.. just compatible at all My Prince" Mr George cried in panic.
"Then I'll fight for us to be" Elvis said as he walked off.
He picked up his clothes and began getting ready.
"But My Prince..."
"Don't worry about me. I already have it thought off. So you can't change my mind"
Mr George didn't speak again. He guessed he'd have to support his master through the impending chaos that he was about to brew up.
*******
Eden's horse pulled over at a distance close to the Palace. He got down from the hall as he stared at the entrance.
It was heavily guarded. Every noble that passed through presented their invitation. Obviously.
Eden hesitated, staring at a distance with the horse beside him. And Lenny on the horse.
"Are you sure you can make it through?" Lenny asked.
"I will have to" Eden replied.
"What if they recognise your face?"
"They won't see it" Eden adjusted the veil that he still had on.
"What if they want you to take it off?" Lenny asked.
"I have my ways" Eden explained.
Lenny signed "Then you also better have a good way to make your plan workout once you're in there"
"Fingers crossed" Eden muttered, still staring at the entrance.
After sorting himself out, Eden made his way to the entrance.
The guards stopped him at the entrance, both staring at him.
Eden looked up at them, his eyes visible from the veil. He got out the invitation and showed it to them.
The two guards looked through the invitation that was tailored for the grand marquis. And then they looked at each other.
It was obvious that they had gotten suspicious as to why an invitation made for the grand marquis was in his hands.
"I'm representing him. He sent me" Eden explained.
But it didn't seem as though the guards were satisfied yet. They still stared at Eden and then at each other suspiciously.
Eden knew it was time. He got out the plaque and showed it to them "I don't have time to waste here. I have to go in and greet the King for him. I won't be staying all night" He explained, posing a noble expression.
The guards stared at the plaque and then gave a bow. A sign of acknowledgement.
They had already seen the plaque so it was obvious that Eden was indeed from the grand marquis.
"Can I pass now?" Eden asked, his chins up.
"Your face..." one of the guards pointed out "Can you take off the veil?"
Eden paused and then said "I can't"
"Why?" They stared at him, suspicious.
"I have rashes and I wish to protect my reputation and my beautiful face" Eden looked in their direction.
"Is there a problem with that? Or do you wish to force a noble to shame himself? Let everyone see my shame?" Do you dare?"
Eden got authoritative.
"No we don't dare to do so. You misunderstood" One apologized.
"I've already shown you what you need. Now let me in" Eden demanded.
"Sure thing" They opened the gates for him.
Eden smiled within as he majestically made his way in. "It was a success"
*****
Eden was in and faced with the entrance to the Royal Hall where the banquet was being held.
Some nobles were already in. And some were littered outside as well, chatting away their time in soft polite laughter.
Eden had his eyes at the entrance. The sight of the guards at that entrance pissed him off. "Not again. How many securities do these people have?"
While he stood there mumbling and getting ready to make his way past the next security stand, he caught sight of someone.
Someone was stepping down from a carriage. Elegantly dressed in a blue gown.
She looked beautiful in the intricately decorated puffed- sleeved gown. Fine Jewelry hung around her neck matching her beautiful eyes. Her black hair elegantly made and adorned with golden ornaments.
She looked beautiful in all she wore. As beautiful as Cinderella before the clock struck 12.
And for the first time, Eden instantly recognised a character from the book.
Helene. The main female character.
