Chapter 40: Welcome to AionTech (2)
*groan* "The shop! Oh no! Oh no! Oh no! I over- Right... It's Sunday and I forgot I closed down the shop..." Soren stated gloomily, as he just woke up and remembered how he had moved into AionTech's dormitory. Currently, it was seven in the morning and by now, he would have been doing a supply check, before going to stock up his shop with coffee and other necessities he would need for both his shop and home. Since he had left both his home and shop behind though, an awkward feeling enveloped him, as he wasn't sure what to do now, before remembering that he'd need to be at the entrance hall by eight, so he quickly went into the bathroom to take a shower, after taking some underwear from his luggage bag and a proper work attire, which consisted of a black jacket, a light gray undershirt and a pair of black pants.
After fully cleaning himself, Soren came out of the bathroom fully clothed and groomed, and with a confident smile on his face, before turning into a frown within seconds. In the end, the entire process took him nearly 45 minutes and although he could go to the entrance hall right now, he quickly took out the laptop from his luggage bag, which was placed on top of a small table, next to a mounted TV.
"Let's see the damage from the guard now..." Soren muttered, as he performed a full diagnostics check on his laptop and his phone, after the guard had taken them from him and connected it to his own computer for a few minutes, before giving it back. At a first glance, there wasn't anything wrong with them, since his apps were intact and nothing was tampered within his files, aside from the appearance of a new app, AionTech Communications. But after a few minutes, he managed to find a couple of new applications, installed on both of his devices, one of them being named AionGenesis and the other being Haveltite, a well-known security and anti-malware program, mainly used by major corporations to protect most of their data. Unfortunately, he didn't have much time, since the check alone took him nearly ten minutes and as much as he would like to try and tear apart the AionGenesis app, he knew that time wasn't on his side and that he'd have to check later, after finishing his tour.
After closing his laptop, Soren quickly left and locked his new apartment, before having to run down a flight of stairs and entering AionTech through of its back entrances. Once he entered the building, it didn't take long for him to make his way towards the entrance hall, as there was a map of the ground floor and he only needed to walk down the left hallway, until he reached the last door to his right.
Upon entering into the entrance hall, Soren quickly looked around, hoping to find his tour guide, but the entrance hall was mostly empty, save for a couple of cleaners who were currently cleaning the floor and windows. Seeing as the cleaners had completely ignored his presence, Soren assumed that his guide hadn't arrived yet, so he took a seat and waited until someone called him out. Thankfully for him it didn't take long, since a male voice grabbed his attention.
"Hey, you're the new recruit, aren't you?" Upon hearing the male voice, Soren turned his head towards its direction and a tall man with silver hair, blue eyes and a tired expression was walking towards him, as he was wearing a pair of gray shorts and a white t-shirt.
"Um... Hi there... You're... the tour guide?" Soren asked awkwardly, as he wasn't expected his tour guide to be dressed in such a manner.
*groan* "Yup... Sorry if I'm late. The blasted alarm clock refuses to work, even when I make sure to properly set it..." The man apologized tiredly, as he rubbed his eyes a bit, before signaling Soren to follow him and continued speaking during the time they were making their way towards the nearest elevator. "Anyways... First and foremost, congratulations and welcome to AionTech. I hope you have a fruitful time. Now, do you need a history lesson on AionTech or will you be fine?"
"Not really... I'll be fine without the history lesson." Soren declined respectfully, as he heard a sigh of relief from the man in front of him.
*sigh* "That's good, because there's barely any noteworthy history for this company, aside from their products and their development history, but those are company secrets and we're not privy to those. Anyways, the place we met was the entrance hall, which is where the common populace waits for their turn to speak with our company employees for whatever problems they may have. You won't be coming much here, if at all." *beep* After pressing the elevator button, the two of them waited in front of the elevator, while the man continued his tour.
"While we're waiting for the elevator, let me give you a brief rundown of the upper floors, since you won't be having much business up there. The top floor, which is also the 14th floor, is mainly the CEO and executives' offices, while from the 13th to the 10th floor is mainly a mix of offices from the managers and large meeting rooms. From the 9th to the 1st floor, it's mainly a mix of personal employee offices for general affairs, small meeting rooms for inquiries from our customers and some storage rooms for spare furniture and computers. Honestly, you won't be having a reason to go anywhere higher than the 1st floor." *beep* *vrrr* Once the elevator arrived, the two of them entered inside of it and the man then pressed a few floor numbers in a random order, before a panel with new twelve buttons appeared below the actual button panel, before pressing the button B6 on the lower panel.
"Press the numbers nine, eleven, ten twice and then one on the upper floor panel. That'll make this lower panel appear for the underground floors to appear. Or you can just take the stairs for the basement floors near the back entrance, whichever really suits you. Anyways, the first three basement floors or B1F to B3F is where you'll be eating, relaxing or socializing with our other employees during your breaks or free time. That's where we our cafeterias and recreation rooms are located, so I'd suggest to explore this place thoroughly during your free time. B4F and B5F are mainly medical facilities, either for physical or mental trauma, so expect to come here quite a bit," *beep*
Once the elevator stopped, the doors opened and the two of them left the elevator behind, as the two of them walked down the hall and the man continued explaining. "B10F through B12F aren't accessible to most employees, save for the executives, the CEO and any related employees for their maintenance, since that's where most of our serves are in Glaxion City. You could try going to those floors, but doors will immediately block your way, so don't try to entertain any thoughts about exploring them. And as for B6F through B9F..." Once the man stopped in the middle of his sentence, he took out an ID card from his pocket and waved it in front of a scanner, next to a closed door. Once he waved it, he put away his ID card, while the doors opened automatically and started speaking again in a much more grandiose way.
"This is where the countless hours of blood, sweat and tears are being turned into the newest product the common populace is currently enjoying." Once he finished speaking, he quickly stepped away from Soren's line of sight, as Soren was staring down speechlessly at dozens, if not hundreds, of people on beds with helmets, with twice as many people in white coats sitting in front of computers, right next to them.
