Beloved Bride: Captured by the Top Playboy

Chapter 14: Chapter 14 The Aunt's Gaze Doesn't Work

"What?" Suxin jumped up from the sofa abruptly, "You're saying you don't have to pay rent for this apartment?" Her voice was almost a shout.

"Yeah." Ziqian, calm, nodded his head and continued drinking his drink. Did this lady really need to be so excited? It was his house, after all, did one really need to pay to live in their own home?

"Why? Why don't you need to pay?"

Watching her so agitated amused Ziqian, and he decided not to tell her that he was actually the landlord!

"I know the landlord."

"Know him?" Suxin widened her eyes in disbelief. Even brothers settle accounts clearly, let alone mere acquaintances! Could it be... could it be that this pretty boy had that kind of relationship with the landlord?

"You and the landlord are... friends?" In reality, Suxin wanted to say "boyfriend," but when the words reached her lips, she omitted the "boy," understanding that anyone would get it without it!

"Yep," Ziqian again nodded calmly.

Ah? So it really was that kind of relationship! In a flash, Suxin bounced back to her original spot on the sofa.

Oh my, so this pretty boy swings both ways, huh? Not just a sugar baby for rich ladies but for men too? Who could tell her what kind of world this was? Pretty boys are in such demand? Why doesn't anyone want a real woman like her? Does it really have to be this hard for women? Not only competing with other women but men too?

"What's the matter? Can't accept it?" Ziqian, seeing the shocked and incredulous look on Suxin's face, found it very amusing.

"Oh... no... nothing, I... I just don't understand..." Suxin squeezed out an awkward smile, wondering if he knew what she was thinking, would he flatten her?

"Don't understand what?" Ziqian became curious.

"This... this... I... I'm sleepy, I'm going to my room to sleep..." Saying this, Suxin jumped up from the sofa and quickly entered her room, closing the door behind her.

"What's with this lady? Going to sleep at nine thirty?" Ziqian looked at his watch, puzzled.

Just then, his phone rang. Pulling it out, he saw it was a call from the old man, seeming that the old man had found out he had returned to the country.

Ziqian smiled helplessly, pressed the answer button, and walked to his room, holding the phone. The old man was always stubborn; if he didn't answer, he probably wouldn't get any peace to sleep tonight.

The next day, as soon as Suxin opened her eyes, she received a call that made the whole sky seem incredibly bright.

Haidong Securities Company had invited her for an interview at ten o'clock the next morning.

"Wow, that's great!" Suxin revealed a smile she hadn't shown in days.

"What should I do? I wonder what they will ask during the interview?"

Thinking this, Suxin quickly turned on her computer and started searching on Baidu, picking out some common interview questions to prepare.

"Self-introduction?" "Previous work experience?" "Future career plans?" "The skills needed for this position, do I possess them?"

Looking through the searches, these were typically the topics; Suxin prepared diligently for each one, trying her best to sidestep the fact that her last five years had been spent dabbling in odd jobs.

On the day of the interview, Suxin got up at eight. She was originally dressed in a green Dior gown she bought the other day, but just before leaving, she decided to change into a black business suit, feeling it made her appear more sharp and professional.

Suxin had just opened the front door when Chen Ziqian also came out of his room, carrying an office bag, and they both waited by the elevator.

Suxin glanced sidelong at Chen Ziqian and thought he looked oddly different today. His hairstyle was still handsome, but he was wearing a sharp black suit and carrying a men's leather bag, giving him a very formal appearance. This was a stark contrast to his previous casual and laid-back demeanor.

He didn't look like the usual loafing pretty boy; he had a bit of a successful person's air about him.

As if she had come to a realization, Suxin nodded to herself. It seemed he was still a white-collar pretty boy!

"Auntie, don't tell me you're stunned by my handsomeness?" Chen Ziqian found it amusing to see Suxin gawking at him with a silly expression.

"Me?" Suxin pointed at her own nose in surprise, then withdrew her gaze and looked away, "How could that be?"

"Why stare at me then? I mean, aren't you being a bit awkward?" A charming smile appeared on Chen Ziqian's face.

"I'm just curious," Suxin said, looking straight at the numbers on the elevator, which had reached the nineteenth floor.

"Curious about what?"

"Curious why a pretty boy like you needs to go to work so early in the morning?"

"Auntie, you..." Hearing this, Chen Ziqian nearly exploded with anger. What kind of eyesight did this auntie have? Had he ever looked like a pretty boy? At most, he was just a bit handsome.

"Ding-dong—" The sound of the elevator arriving interrupted Chen Ziqian's urge to burst out cursing.

Suxin hurriedly jumped in, squeezing to the furthest corner. She had timed her comment just right, choosing to speak as the elevator was arriving. Otherwise, was she stupid? No one who was called a pretty boy would enjoy it, just as eunuchs don't enjoy being called eunuchs.

Chen Ziqian, with a dark face, also entered the elevator and glared at Suxin hiding in the back, making her too scared to even peek towards the elevator doors.

In a matter of seconds, they reached the ground floor, and the crowd exited. Suxin walked out with her head held high, facing away; she wasn't stupid enough to look at Chen Ziqian's angry face.

However, Chen Ziqian's expression quickly turned to a smile, following behind Suxin as she walked swiftly ahead.

"Looks like auntie is in a rush to go to an interview!"

Suxin's hurried steps suddenly stopped. Strangely, how did this pretty boy know she was going for an interview? Was it written on her face?

She turned around only to see Chen Ziqian's sly, grinning face.

Was her going to an interview that amusing? Suxin glared at him twice, then turned around and continued walking.

"Endure, I must endure! I need to maintain my ladylike demeanor!" she muttered to herself, biting her teeth and quickening her steps.

"With an eye-gaze like that, auntie, whoever hires you must be blind!" Chen Ziqian couldn't help shouting jovially as he watched Suxin trying hard to suppress her frustration.

"Who are you calling blind?" Suxin finally couldn't hold back and shouted back, only to see Chen Ziqian waving at her cheerfully as he got into a taxi.

"This pretty boy really has no manners, poking at my bad luck right from early morning!" Suxin fumed, stomping her feet, "Sharing a house with this kind of person must be the bad karma of my past life, too bad I've already paid the rent for the year, otherwise no matter how good the place is I wouldn't stay!"

Suxin patted her hands, pursed her lips, and hurriedly walked towards the subway station.
