Chapter 134: 134: The Path of Peace Uprising
"I didn't expect it to come to this so soon."
Haruki muttered as he looked at the scroll Taeko handed him, its message about the Path of Peace uprising marked in bold red.
The Path of Peace was a religious movement that had emerged in the eastern part of the Empire in recent years. It preached that doing good deeds would lead to a long life.
With the Empire growing darker under the Prime Minister's grip, countless citizens had reached a breaking point. In this despair, the Path of Peace became a spiritual refuge for many.
Its leader was especially charismatic—blessed with the ability to heal wounds, glimpse the future, and see through people's hearts. He could even remember every follower's name and number, a talent that earned him immense popularity within the movement.
Over time, the Path of Peace grew to hold great sway in the hearts of the eastern populace, becoming nearly a household name.
However, Haruki—who had read the original story—knew the truth. The leader wasn't a pure-blooded human. His true nature was a hybrid, born of a human and a Danger Beast.
And it wasn't exactly that he could predict the future. If he truly could, the world would've fallen into chaos by now. His foresight was limited—he could only glimpse what might happen to him in the near future.
Take Haruki, for example. As someone from another world and with power that exceeded this world's norms, he was a complete blind spot to the leader.
"Huh? Brother, is something wrong?"
Logue, who was sitting on Haruki's lap, looked up and asked with innocent curiosity upon noticing his subtle change in expression.
The other girls around Haruki also looked up. It wasn't often that something could make him visibly react.
"It's nothing serious. Just a large-scale rebellion breaking out in the Empire."
Haruki quickly regained his calm demeanor and spoke nonchalantly.
"Haruki, are you sure everything's okay?"
Kije asked, a bit worried. Unlike the others, she didn't fully understand Haruki's real abilities.
Her loyalty still leaned toward the Empire. After all, Bols had been a soldier of the Empire, and she had never held any goodwill toward the Revolutionary Army that orchestrated his assassination.
Life had been peaceful in Haruki's mansion. Though just a maid, she didn't need to do much. Watching Logue live happily every day brought her joy. As a simple woman, Kije didn't want that peace disturbed. In her eyes, if a rebellion broke out, Haruki—as a high-ranking figure—would be one of the first affected.
"Don't worry. Forget rebels—even if the heavens themselves came for me, I'd tear them down."
Haruki offered with a smirk, trying to reassure her.
"Well, in that case, I can rest easy."
Kije patted her chest and smiled.
Somehow, his words carried a kind of power that calmed her. It was as if something deep inside confirmed that he was telling the truth, and she couldn't help but feel reassured.
"Brother, if I'm right, this rebellion isn't like the ones before, is it?"
Unlike Kije, Gin and the others had a broader perspective. Rebellions weren't new—but never before had one piqued Haruki's interest like this.
After a pause, Gin asked him directly.
"You're right. If my guess is correct, it won't just be the Path of Peace. The Revolutionary Army and even the foreign tribes will likely join forces to attack the Empire. If I don't step in, there's a real chance the Empire could fall."
Haruki didn't hide anything. He laid out everything he'd learned recently, along with knowledge from his past life.
"Tch. The Revolutionary Army is just a bunch of opportunistic rats. I bet the foreign incursions are their doing too."
Kurome, face full of disgust, snapped as soon as the Revolutionary Army was mentioned.
Every time foreign tribes invaded, the Empire's people suffered unimaginable losses. Villages burned, families torn apart—these invaders were no different from ravenous wolves. And yet the Revolutionary Army had repeatedly colluded with them in their hunger for power. It was no wonder the girls around Haruki had nothing but disdain for them.
Sure, the Empire was corrupt. But whenever foreign threats emerged, it was the Empire that sent troops to repel them. And with generals like Esdeath, the retaliation could be devastating.
"This time, even the Path of Peace followers—commoners though they are—won't be easy to deal with."
Haruki spoke again, his tone more serious.
To him, religion could be terrifying. For some, faith was worth dying for. That's why most rulers tightly controlled religion's growth—it could all too easily spiral out of control.
"Brother, what should we do this time? Should we go take care of it?"
Tsukushi, seated beside Pony, chimed in.
The girls from the Empire's assassination unit still held deep loyalty to the Empire. Years ago, they'd been ambushed by the Revolutionary Army on the southwestern border, and they were more than eager for revenge.
"Not yet. None of you should move. And tell Esdeath not to take the suppression too seriously either. Let them get cocky first. Once they're all gathered in one place... heh, that'll be the end of their little rebellion."
Haruki gave his instructions clearly—and with purpose. He even singled out Esdeath. With her current strength, if she went all-out, those rebels might never even reach the capital. But if a few high-ranking ones escaped, it would only lead to future trouble.
"True. But this time, Esdeath might actually get to enjoy herself."
Thinking over his words, the girls all nodded in agreement. Clearly, they trusted his plan.
Someone even muttered about how Esdeath's bloodthirsty nature had already left a deep impression on them all.
"Heh."
Haruki chuckled softly, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
This time, it looked like the Revolutionary Army wasn't going to make it out alive.
