Being Overpowered in Akame ga Kill

Chapter 100: 100: Akame's Return

"Do you people think I'm some pushover, someone you can mess with whenever you feel like it? Or do you think I'm a statue with no temper at all? How many times are you going to come at me before you realize—I'm not afraid of you?"

Haruki's voice was cold as he spoke to the Night Raid members, clearly angered. He had spared them multiple times, yet they repaid him with betrayal—bringing outsiders to ambush him, ruining what was meant to be a peaceful outing.

"For the sake of the revolution, we need your Teigu. I hope you won't resist, Security Minister."

Najenda finally stepped forward to speak.

"Hmph. Is that really something a traitor to the Empire should be saying?"

Haruki shot back. He had never held much respect for idealists like Najenda, and now, he didn't bother hiding his contempt.

"As the Security Minister, you should be well aware of the Empire's state. If the Empire weren't so rotten, do you think I would've turned against it? Do you even know how many people are suffering across the nation? How many honest officials and loyal generals have been persecuted to death by the Prime Minister? General Budo doesn't bother with state affairs, the Emperor is an ignorant child, and the entire capital is under the Prime Minister's thumb. Haruki, if you still have a conscience, you shouldn't be aiding tyranny."

Najenda's eyes bore into him, her voice full of anguish for the nation's corruption.

"And so your answer is to throw your hopes behind that disgraceful Revolutionary Army? That's the justification for Night Raid's betrayal?"

Haruki asked sharply.

"You're wrong. Most of the Revolutionary Army truly believes in the cause. They fight for the people."

Najenda countered.

"You're just lying to yourselves. How many idealistic fools like you are even left in that group?"

Haruki scoffed.

Just as he was about to continue, Lubbock, who had remained silent until now, suddenly snapped.

"Shut up, Security Minister! Najenda is fighting for the people—how is that wrong? You corrupt bastards could never understand her!"

Lubbock had always held feelings for Najenda, and Haruki's words had pushed him over the edge.

"And where was I wrong? Isn't she just another fool lost in her ideals? It's not hard to see—just look at your group."

Haruki's eyes swept over the Night Raid.

"Leone, you joined because you couldn't stand the nobles killing people for sport. Bulat, you were about to be executed and had nowhere else to go. Mine, you only wanted mixed-bloods like yourself to be treated with respect. And you, Lubbock—you followed Najenda out of infatuation.

Let's not pretend you joined for the good of the people. Every single one of you had your own reasons. So stop pretending you're some noble warriors of justice.

People aren't born equal—there will always be status and hierarchy. What gives you the right to claim you'll change that? Can you guarantee that once the Revolutionary Army succeeds, its leaders won't crown themselves as emperors and become the new ruling class?

In the end, you're just fighting to hand the throne to someone else. And some of you? You're just dreaming of becoming the new rulers. Isn't that why so many of you cling to the idea of power?"

"Enough! Stop spouting nonsense—we won't listen to any more of it. Everyone, take him down!"

Lubbock's expression had turned ugly. Haruki had clearly struck a nerve. He turned and gave the signal to attack.

"Right."

The Night Raid members responded, their voices firm. Though Haruki's words had unsettled them, they weren't ready to accept that everything they believed in might be a lie. So they shoved their doubts aside and charged.

...

"I'm not fighting anymore. I've hurt my sister and Haruki too many times. Brother is right. I've been a fool all along."

Just as the Night Raid was about to strike, Akame's voice rang out, cutting through the tension like a blade.

She slowly stepped back, distancing herself from the group—as if to prove she meant what she said.

After her encounter with Zanku the Beheader, the illusions she saw had shaken her faith in the Revolutionary Army's so-called justice. That moment had forced her to reevaluate everything—including how much Haruki and Kurome meant to her. Now, after witnessing the behavior of the two agents from headquarters, Akame had finally lost all trust in the cause she once believed in. And Kurome's cold, unfamiliar gaze had only solidified her resolve to leave.

"Akame! How could you? After everything we've been through—how could you betray us like this?"

"Akame, this has to be a joke, right? Come back!"

The Night Raid members froze in disbelief. It wasn't until Akame had walked far away that they snapped out of it, voices overlapping in confusion and shock.
