Being A Law God In Marvel!

Chapter 40: Invited To U.S

"What's wrong with Carlos?" Diana asked in a low voice, her gaze shifting toward the other room.

"How would I know? Maybe it's still about what happened on Themyscira," Ryuji replied just as quietly.

Diana's expression grew somber at the mention of the sisters who died defending the island.

Steve, sitting a short distance away, couldn't help but notice the close interaction between Diana and Ryuji. The vibrant glow on Diana's face made it painfully clear to him what had transpired between the two. A pang of heartache struck Steve, but he pushed it down. Even though their voices were low, he had caught enough of the conversation to feel guilt creep in.

If it weren't for him, those brave Amazons wouldn't have lost their lives.

At first, Steve had been annoyed by Doutzen Carlos's antics, but now, he felt obligated to endure her bitterness—literally and figuratively. If drinking her horrible coffee could help ease her anger, he figured it was a small price to pay.

"Would you like another cup of coffee?" Carlos asked, arms crossed, her eyes sharp.

Samir flinched from across the room, whispering under his breath, "Old man, are you trying to dig your own grave?"

Steve hesitated, caught off guard by Carlos's hostility. His hand hovered mid-air, unsure whether to accept or decline.

Sensing Steve's awkwardness, Ryuji finally stepped in with a smirk. "So, you said you wanted to talk business. What is it?"

"Ah, right," Steve said quickly, relieved at the change of topic. He grabbed a briefcase by his side, his movements slightly clumsy. "Have you decided where you're going next, Ryuji? Diana?"

Diana tilted her head slightly, curious. "We're still deciding," she started, but Ryuji gently placed a hand on her arm, cutting her off mid-sentence.

"You seem to have something in mind," Ryuji said, his sharp gaze fixed on Steve.

"Well… neither of you seem to have an official identity or a concrete plan for staying in the outside world. If that's the case, why not come to the United States?" Steve proposed, leaning forward slightly.

"To the United States?" Diana repeated, looking at Ryuji with raised brows.

The two exchanged a glance, and in that moment, it was clear that the suggestion aligned with their earlier plans.

"And what's the catch?" Ryuji asked skeptically, leaning back in his chair. "Are you recruiting us? For the government or the military, maybe?"

Steve raised his hands defensively. "That's up to you. Think of it as me simply offering a ride—a ticket to a better opportunity."

Ryuji studied him carefully. While Steve had been an annoyance due to his obvious feelings for Diana, there was no denying that his offer might actually be helpful.

"Alright," Ryuji said after a moment. "We'll take you up on that. But before heading to the States, we need to make a stop somewhere else."

"Where to?" Steve asked, surprised at how quickly Ryuji had agreed.

"Hong Kong," Ryuji replied simply.

Steve paused, sensing that pressing for an explanation would be pointless. Instead, he nodded and reached into the briefcase. "Alright. Here are your military IDs," he said, passing small booklets to Ryuji, Diana, and Carlos.

Ryuji flipped through the pages, eyebrows furrowing. "A British officer? Why not American?"

"We're still in the UK, and it's easier to process British documentation here," Steve explained. "The IDs are legitimate, though not very powerful. They'll get you through most checks without issue."

Ryuji raised an eyebrow. The material of the ID felt cheap—nothing like what he would expect. But then again, it was the 1920s, and standards were far from modern-day precision.

"These'll do," Ryuji muttered, slipping the booklet into his pocket.

Steve handed over a second set of papers. "Once you're in the U.S., I'll help you finalize your documentation there."

Ryuji nodded, flipping through the American forms labeled Registration Form AR-1. Though unfamiliar with their exact purpose, he understood they were crucial for their new identities in the States.

"Buy your own tickets," Steve said, standing to his feet and extending a hand to Ryuji. "I'm heading back to the U.S. tomorrow. See you in America."

"See you," Ryuji replied, shaking his hand firmly.

As Steve turned to leave, he made a point of avoiding any further interaction with Diana. He wasn't about to risk Ryuji's wrath over a handshake.

Once Steve was gone, Samir broke the silence. "Boss, when are we leaving?"

"Pack up. We're heading out as soon as everything is ready," Ryuji answered, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Samir nodded and headed out to make the necessary arrangements.

As Ryuji leaned back in his chair, he smirked slightly. "America, huh? Let's see if you're as promising as Steve says."
