Chapter 357: More Alphas
Axton and the others fought against the five Alpha Core Creation Monsters, and as time passed, the advantage gradually shifted in their favor. If their momentum continued, the Headmasters and the Mayor of Belthias City would emerge victorious with minimal injuries.
As the only Core Creation Cultivator in the group, Mathias battled two of the monsters, unleashing devastation that spread across hundreds—if not thousands—of meters.
However, compared to the others, the sound of his attacks wasn't as loud, often muffled beneath the chaos of the other battles.
But his fight was far more difficult—he had to contend with two Core Creation monsters at once.
Still, even under immense pressure, Mathias didn't lose his composure. In fact, he inflicted more damage on his enemies than they did on him.
Chunks of sand-rock scales flew off as the Desert Dragon was slammed into the ground by Mathias's Gravity Techniques.
The attack pinned the dragon, forcing it to its knees. As it struggled against the overwhelming pressure, cracks formed across its body, blood leaking from the fractures.
Yet, as a Core Creation Monster, its healing capabilities were top-tier. Even under the weight of Mathias's gravity, its regeneration kicked in, allowing it to endure the pain and resist the crushing force.
Meanwhile, Mathias, occupied in close combat with the Alpha Ivory Scorpion—where even a single hit could be lethal—noticed his Gravity Technique beginning to weaken.
The scorpion in front of him spewed a black ball of venom, resembling lightning, which instantly appeared before Mathias.
Anticipating such a move the moment he showed an opening, Mathias quickly raised a Gravity Barrier around himself. The venomous lightning dispersed upon contact, but even with the barrier, there was a delay—one or two seconds—that the scorpion exploited.
It burrowed underground and, in the blink of an eye, re-emerged right in front of Mathias, its massive pincer aimed straight at him.
With an explosive impact that unleashed a shockwave, Mathias was sent flying at incredible speed. His Gravity Barrier shattered into countless particles that scattered around him.
The attack was so powerful that it left a crater where they had stood.
Even after taking the hit head-on and feeling pain ripple through his body, Mathias didn't panic.
He flipped midair to regain control, then used the momentum to shift gravity around him, redirecting his trajectory straight toward the Desert Dragon.
As the wind howled around him, tossing his hair and robes, Mathias activated his Movement Technique, further boosting his speed.
With his right palm raised and his other hand extended to keep the pressure on the dragon using his Gravity Techniques, Mathias charged forward.
Then, just before collision, he pulled his right hand back—then thrust it forward in a pushing motion.
Gravity Push!
Mathias hurled the Desert Dragon back, and for a moment, it felt as if the entire world's gravity obeyed his will.
The dragon was lifted off the ground. With two Gravity Techniques acting on it, it couldn't resist—its body was flung helplessly through the air.
The sheer force stripped its scales, crushed its organs, and twisted its limbs until it no longer resembled the mighty beast it once was.
Now looking like a mangled corpse being hurled into the forest, the dragon tried to scream in agony—but the crushing gravity didn't even allow a grunt to escape.
In the end, the attack launched the dragon deep into the woods, razing everything in its path.
Mathias watched the destruction his attack had caused and could feel a massive amount of his Refined Qi vanishing along with the Technique.
"See you in hell," the Mayor of Belthias muttered before his body vanished—his previous spot erupting in a pool of venom that corroded the earth and tainted the air.
The moment he reappeared, he was in front of the Ivory Scorpion. Mathias and the monster engaged in another round of close combat, but this time, the Mayor wasn't splitting his focus between two enemies. Now, he could fully concentrate on the scorpion, giving him more freedom to deal with it directly.
This scorpion had tougher armor than the Desert Dragon, and each of its strikes packed the power of a full Technique. Its only long-range attack was its bolt of lightning venom.
Mathias could've chosen a ranged battle, but it would've been pointless—the scorpion's tough body could resist some of the pressure from his Gravity Techniques.
Fortunately, his fists, enhanced by gravity, could still deal significant damage.
Their fight dragged on until Mathias finally spotted an opening. With lightning speed, he landed a devastating blow to the monster's head.
The moment his fist made contact with the shell, the scorpion's skull burst apart from the pressure, sending bits of brain matter flying in every direction.
Mathias waved a hand, altering the flow of blood and gore that was about to hit him, redirecting it behind him instead.
"You guys are annoying," Mathias muttered, shaking his head. A small smile crept onto his face.
He began floating into the air, scanning the battlefield. Most of the other enemies had already been taken down. Suddenly, a flash appeared beside him—Headmaster Axton had materialized.
"So this is it, huh?" Axton asked, a trace of disappointment in his voice as he watched the remaining skirmishes.
"What? You expected more?" Mathias replied with a chuckle.
"Yeah," Axton admitted, not bothering to hide his thoughts. "I thought that guy sent the message because something big was happening—but it looks like he overreacted."
"Hmm." Mathias turned toward the forest and saw monsters still pouring out, charging toward the city.
He didn't sense any Core Creation monsters among them—likely because they'd already been eliminated.
Though the number of beasts was overwhelming, with the city's soldiers and the current lineup of powerhouses, Belthias would be safe. So Axton's words weren't exactly wrong.
But just as the two of them were beginning to relax, they suddenly felt several powerful auras surging from deep within the forest.
Their expressions turned grim as they slowly turned toward the familiar presence.
"There's more?" Axton muttered, his voice filled with surprise.
The Mayor frowned. The pressure they were sensing… it was unmistakably that of Core Creation Cultivators.
"He didn't send that message because he was overreacting… this is more serious than we thought."
As the two exchanged tense words, the remaining Headmasters appeared beside them, each wearing a grave expression as they stared at the forest.
Soon, more Core Creation Monsters emerged, marching among the dozens of lesser beasts.
Seeing this, the Mayor and the Headmasters exchanged glances. Then Mathias began issuing orders.
"One of us has to return to the city and coordinate the defenses," Mathias said solemnly as he prepared to face the oncoming horde. "There may be more Alphas than what we're seeing right now."
Just as he said that, a hand rested on his shoulder.
"You should go back," Axton said. "You're the Mayor now—and your wisdom is what the city needs to survive this stampede."
Mathias frowned, but when he looked at the other Headmasters, he saw that they were all watching him… silently urging him to go.
Then, a whistling sound drew their attention. They turned to see Nathan flying straight toward the approaching Core Creation Monsters.
"He's as feisty as ever," Axton said with a chuckle.
Mathias gave his old friend a final glance and nodded.
"Alright. You don't have to kill them if you can't finish it quickly," he said, then vanished from his spot.
