Chapter 356: Headmaster's Battle
Core Creation Monsters—or Alpha monsters—possessed incredibly tough physiology, and each one had the ability to rapidly heal from injuries.
Unlike humans, who needed to circulate Qi to recover, these monsters simply let their bodies do the work. Self-healing was natural to them, embedded in their biology.
This made such monsters notoriously hard to deal with. Especially those whose strength exceeded Core Creation. Even Mathias would avoid provoking them directly—and would prefer to flee if given the option.
Now, as the Desert Dragon and the giant Ivory Scorpion rose to their feet, Mathias increased the strength of his Gravity Attribute. The pressure caused both monsters' feet to sink into the ground.
However, unlike before—when their bodies were completely immobilized—the two monsters had started to adapt to the gravitational force. They still struggled to move, but not nearly as much as they had earlier.
Mathias frowned at the sight, but he wasn't alarmed. He had already expected this to happen.
"These guys are tough—but not tough enough to beat me!"
With those words, Mathias vanished from his spot and reappeared in front of the Desert Dragon, who instinctively opened its mouth and released a blast of flame.
The dragon reacted even before Mathias fully appeared—but the human's reflexes were faster.
The air around Mathias cracked as he activated one of his Gravity Techniques: Gravity Barrier—a defensive technique that condensed gravity around him, warping the space and shielding him from physical threats.
As flames engulfed him, the heat barely registered. He didn't feel a thing.
Still, Mathias kept his serious expression. He knew it wouldn't be long before these intense flames broke through the barrier.
So he responded. He activated another technique, coating his right fist in pressurized 'gravity'—an energy so dense it twisted the space around it. Then he punched forward. Not fast. Not slow. But everything happened within a fraction of a second.
A sudden explosion shook the air. The Desert Dragon was launched backward, carving a long ravine through the ground and sending dust and smoke billowing into the sky.
The flames around Mathias were blown away. But before he could follow up, his instincts screamed—danger approaching.
He turned to his left.
A massive black pincer came at him at blistering speed. No time to dodge. So he responded with the same gravity punch he'd just used on the dragon.
Shockwaves erupted.
Mathias and the Alpha Ivory Scorpion were blasted away from each other. Their previous location now a giant crater, as if a meteor had struck.
Mathias grunted as he stabilized himself midair. But just as he regained balance, intense heat poured from above. He looked up.
The Desert Dragon—now engulfed in an even fiercer brown flame—was diving toward him at full speed.
"You guys know how to fight!" Mathias shouted.
With a clawing motion, he pulled his hands back, then slashed forward. The space around the dragon warped—shaped into massive, invisible claws that distorted the air. These claws launched toward the dragon, forcing the beast to halt midair and defend itself.
With a brief moment to breathe, Mathias shifted his attention to the Ivory Scorpion.
He spread his senses.
Underground.
The scorpion was burrowing beneath the battlefield, heading straight for him.
A smirk tugged at Mathias' lips. He stomped the ground.
A shockwave surged downward—and the terrain erupted.
The Alpha Ivory Scorpion was exposed.
In the next instant, Mathias was in front of the beast, and the two clashed—trading blows in a flurry of brute force and precision.
Their battle shook the area—space cracked, and shockwaves spread in every direction.
But no matter how shocking Mathias's fight was, the others didn't fall behind.
Headmaster Axton was engaged in combat with the snake-like monster that had centipede legs. This one was the largest of the five, making it the hardest to deal with.
But for Cultivators—especially those at their level—facing difficult and unpredictable opponents was nothing new. Adapting in an instant was a requirement to become a great Cultivator.
Axton narrowed his eyes. In the next moment, seven mirages of himself split from his body, each one identical to the original—as if they were all the real Headmaster.
Without needing direction, the clones moved on their own, engaging the centipede-legged snake.
Each drew the long black blade hanging at their hip, and in an instant, black flashes of water slashed toward the beast. The creature roared in pain, but in the very next second, its wounds began to heal—and it retaliated fiercely.
Headmaster Axton stayed back, observing the monster's movements and analyzing its patterns. At the same time, he expanded his senses to 'see' how the others were faring.
Master Popo battled the giant spider with spiked legs. At first, it was one-sided—Master Popo's abilities were especially effective against spiders, and this particular monster feared fire.
However, the tide shifted when the spider laid over a hundred eggs, which hatched into human-sized offspring.
Popo was forced to split his firepower, diverting his flames to stop the smaller spiders from reaching the city and causing havoc. But the Alpha Spider was clever. It sprayed venom and webbing simultaneously, allowing several of its offspring to slip past the inferno.
Fortunately, Cultivators and city guards stationed behind the walls reacted quickly. As soon as they spotted the incoming spiders, they slaughtered them without hesitation.
Seeing that the defenders could handle the smaller threats, Master Popo let out a sigh of relief. He then began channeling both Unrefined and Refined Qi to deal greater damage to the Alpha Spider.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the battlefield, Headmaster Elmo faced off against the Desert Tiger—a monster that could manipulate sand and move through the ground as if swimming in water.
It was a frustrating opponent. Elmo couldn't unleash his full power because the tiger gave him no real opening. Every time he prepared to strike, it slipped into the earth. Even when he tried to collapse the ground to force it out, the beast still found ways to evade and launch surprise attacks.
This forced Elmo to prioritize defense. He was clearly at a disadvantage.
But even so, he stayed calm. In fact, a faint smile played on his lips as he waited for the right moment.
"Come on… show yourself," Elmo muttered.
But only the sounds of battle from the other Headmasters answered him.
Then, without warning, Elmo felt a surge of danger behind him. Without turning, he raised his shield and slammed it backward.
A roar of pain erupted.
Elmo turned—and saw the Desert Tiger tumbling across the battlefield after being struck by the shield.
"That's what you get for being a coward!" he shouted.
